Tinker, I'm running with the 180s. No problem so far, though I'm not in SLI. I do not think there is a deathmatch/free for all mode. Feel free to look me up online tonight Trouble1313 is my tag
I went to grab the demo, and its frickin gone! Its not on the net anywhere that I usually look, and on Steam there is no demo listed...WTF they release a demo for 1 week to the public!? :P
Man so many cool games are out right now. I really want to get this game right now, but I am in the middle of Far Cry 2 and Dead Space. I was at the local Wally-Mart and the new Call of Duty and Fall Out were callin' to me. Crazy thing is these are all getting rave reviews. Great time to be a PC gamer.
I' played to about the 12th level tonight and it's a blast with 4 friends! it's sweet when you throw a pipe bomb and they all run towards it and get soupified lol. They even scare the crap out of you sometimes ! woo woo
They dont need a demo anymore their that confident game will sell without one. Its a pretty damn good game..played some coop last nite was insane how many zombies runnin at u. I really like the idea how the level is never the same guys poppin out the same places...its always different. Game really encourages workin together..if u dont ur pretty much dead.. lol good game I can see it having lots of replay value.
I prob will not go online until I finished the SP game 1st. But still working thru FC2 (rather slow going), then FO3 (saving it for those long winter days) then finally L4D (may play it along with FC2 just as a change of pace). Must be getting old, I use to finish FPS like games in a few days and its taking me forever to get into/finish FC2 (just not compelling enuf story I guess).
Well most pple finish the demo in ~<30min. That was 1 1/2 levels out of 20. If the levels get harder or larger, so maybe ~<10hrs max is my guess for the SP game.
I hear L4D is from Valve. Anybody know if this requires an internet connection - like through their STEAMing pile app launcher? I want to be able to play it only on a local LAN. Reason being is I permanently removed my internet connectivity from my HTPC and only network games on it when I have LAN parties at my home.
I went through this ordeal with TF2 - I quit playing for several months and decided to give the game to one of my friends. Unfortunately it wouldn't let them register to play. I even forgot the login to my account and which email addresses it was registered to (I use a different one each time to keep SPAM to a minimum). I freakin HATE Steam. No worries to me. Since I couldn't give my copy away they lost two more potential sales from two of her friends. lol. A company that restricts its paying customers really chaffs my a$$. I'm hoping L4D won't put me through this again. Anybody know if it's like TF2?
Do not buy L4D for single player. Period. You WILL be disapointed. I don't think there's any way to play online in any capacity without steam being active short of xbox and then you gotta PAY to be a member of xboxlive.
Ok thanks for the replies. Guess L4D will not be part of my HTPC gaming inventory, which means my casual gamer friends won't be buying a copy either. I'll vote with my dollars.
I gave away my xbox360 along with all my games - something that Valve doesn't let PC gamers do unfortunately. No console option for me any more.
This got to be one of the shortest SP games I played. Only BF2 series were shorter since they didn't have a SP game. If I knew that the SP was so short, I wouldn't have bother. The multi I haven't tried yet, but other then playing co-op, I think it will get old fast...IMO.
I love the multiplayer. Last night me and 3 others had a blast trying to beat 1 portion of one of the stories. It took us about an hour to beat 1 part of the level (1/20th of the game). Playing on expert is the only way to play. Sooo much fun. We kept accidentally shooting each other or catching on fire. It was a riot.
Then, when we thought we had it all figured out... (A guy would run downstairs and turn the van on...then run back to the safe room with 1 person escorting them) a Tank came out and killed our two runners. I do love how the director changes things up on you so that your plans can get railroaded quickly.
P.S. I know it is just the source engine, but this game looks great at 1920x1200 with everything maxed out. Can't wait to get home and play it some more.

Boy I must be having a brain drain lately. I only played one of the campaigns ... so embarrased...
Stopped the stuttering by turning off AA, vertical sync, multicore rendering. Might not have been all of them's fault combined but haven't experimented further, just playing L4D with 180.48 drivers. XP, 8800gts/640...smooth now.
