I am planning to assemble a 5.1 (or maybe 7.1) system to be driven by Onkyo 875 for HT, stereo, and maybe multichannel music listening (mainly classical). The room is somewhat problematic: roughly 25 feet wide and 14 feet deep, with the TV, fronts, and the listening position off-center along the wide wall. There is also an off-centered recess with windows behind the listening position. Wall treatments are not an option. I'd like to wall-mount the surrounds, but the left wall is about twice as far as the right wall from the listening position. Would dipoles or bipoles be preferable to direct radiators in this configuration? The dipoles would have their rear driver almost next to the back wall, unless they are moved forward off of the listening position. The receiver has Audyssey MultEQ XT built in, so I hope it should help compensate somewhat for room acoustics.
I don't know much about different brands, but I am considering either KEF IQ lineup (something like IQ7 fronts + IQ6c center + IQ8ds dipoles) or the Fluance line (ES-1 + AVSC center + AVBP2 bipoles). I also plan to add an inexpensive sub (Dayton maybe?). I have a pair of ES-1 already, but I need speakers for another room as well, so I'm thinking about getting the fronts from KEF and see whether I like it better than Fluance. I can then match the other channels to the fronts.
So I guess my main question is whether the room layout alone should steer me to direct radiators, bipoles or dipoles for surrounds. I'd also appreciate advice about speaker selection. Will IQ7 be powerful enough, or should I better get the IQ9's?
Sorry if this has been discussed before.
