Request for subwoofer Recommendation for this room please

System:
Mythos Four (L/R)
Mythos Three (C)
RSS II (side surrounds on ceiling)
Mythos Two (rear surrounds)

Receiver: Likely going to be the Pioneer SC-05; Planned crossover 100Hz; Using this to watch movies primarily.

The measured -3dB point of the Mythos Four's is 104Hz (HT labs)

Room:
Dimensions of listening area: 11 ft x 19 ft with 8 foot ceilings. There are 4 (4 foot) windows on the east side wall, covered with plantation shutters. There are three walls (front, back -- 11 feet each; 19 foot east wall) The west side is open to a large open area. Total cubic feet is about 5224 cubic feet (includes the listening area--1672 cubic feet and the open area--the remainder)

It’s a finished basement with concrete carpeted floor and concrete about half way up on the walls, covered in sheetrock. The ceilings are sheetrock covered with knockdown plaster. The seating position is 9 to 10 feet from the front of the room. I’m hoping to compensate by cramming the sub into the northeast corner—hopefully those 3 concrete surfaces will help fill things a little bit.

I watch movies at moderate volumes, and am placing a priority on having my sub blend as seamlessly as possible with the existing speakers. Therefore, I need the sub to be able to play at higher frequencies than most, I suspect.

I am considering the SVS subs -- specifically SB12-Plus; PB-12 Plus; PC-12 Plus. Would like to keep cost of sub under $1,000, and go with a single sub if possible. Saving floor space would be nice--asthetics are secondary, however (despite the Mythos stuff ) WAF is moderate. I am open to other brands if you have a strong recommendation.

If you have any suggestions, I'd sure appreciate them. Will be making a decision this weekend. Thanks!

The SVS models in that price range don't sound like they would be enough to fill your space. The only sub I recall seeing that could cover that space (as a single) would be an Epik Castle ($999+shipping). I'm not sure how they do crossed over at 100Hz though.

There is a wait though. If you want something now, then maybe the new SVS 12-plus or the HSU VTF-3 MK3 (with the idea of adding another later) would be good choices.

is a big room. probably need good output. for $1000 + shipping i would think the castle would be your best bet for ht.
i would think for $1000 high output single sub for ht castle probably rules the roost.
but you have a large room and one might not be enough.
shipping on the castle is probably around $150

I'm running my Castle with a 100hz crossover and it seems to blend very well. It is worth noting that I have EQ'd and also have a couple of bass traps which cut down on room issues. But again, I've found a 100hz crossover with the Castle to work just fine.

Since saving floor space is a priority and esthetics are not, the SVS PC12 Plus is a good choice. There is no question that the much larger Epiks mentioned will have more output, but if you really don't listen any louder than moderate, the new PC12 will be plenty adequate.

Thanks, mojomike-- I've got to cram everything accross that 11 foot wall, so your point is well taken. The Epik and HSU stuff looks cool, but they are large for my particular application.

Thanks everyone for your help--FWIW, I ended up going with 2 of the new SVS PC-12 Plus subwoofers. (Couldn't resist the sale!)

Now, got to do some research on how to optimize those 2 subs together in the room.

So much for $1000 and a single sub, huh? Congrats! I think you'll be thrilled with two PC12-Pluses! Keep us posted.

Yes, that's true

Reading about all your cool setups makes it really hard to stick to a budget...

Therefore, when the subs arrive, my plan is to tell my wife that it's all y'all's fault!

Thanks again, everybody!
