My stuff is all in a cabinet too, so I understand. But the cable box is in its own "cubby" so it should be okay.

Yep, 2-20 are still there (all the networks) as well as NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, PBS & ION in HD via Clear QAM.

Anyone know what's going on with WXEL (PBS) today? Its been out all day both on Directv and OTA for me. I just checked it a little while ago and am now seeing it on Directv but still out OTA (Could be an issue with my HDHomerun there). What was the problem today?

I was going to call today to ask...I get it on OTA...VIDEO ONLY...NO SOUND....A/V both okay on Comcast 440 in WPB...
WXEL is back today OTA, but definitely not as good a before. I used to be able to get this OTA channel solid, but today I've had all kinds of signal loss. Oh well, hope they can get it straightened out. My kid needs her daily Dinosaur Train fix.
I called XEL this AM and they say the problem is OUTSIDE their studio/transmitter...and that they are "working" on it...this PM still no audio.....
Well, good to know they're "working" on it. As of today, I'm able to get it OTA, with somewhat frequent dropouts. On Directv, its there with some dropouts as well.

Got an automated call today saying the "network enhancement" has been completed in my area and that many new HD channels are added to the lineup.

Nothing for me in West Boca (south Palm Beach) but I wasn't expecting much since we were towards the end when they rolled out the new guide. At least we know it is coming but I hope not too long since the guy who comes up to me every time I am in Best Buy asking me if I have Comcast, said Xfinity would be upgraded in December. Hope he is wrong.

Hi,

I'm new to OTA in Boynton. What kind of antenna would you guys recommend? I want something under $50 and small enough to not look ridiculous. I have a cheap Philips antenna with rabbit ears and a hoop between them. Is that good enough to get any channels?

Thanks.
I'm in Port Saint Lucie with a set of rabbit ears in my attic. I can get ABC, FOX, CW, PBS, and ION. On some lucky days I can pick up NBC and/or CBS with some assistance from the weather. I would think you should be able to get similar, if not better, results.
OK Cayson, I will give it a try this weekend with what I have and report back to you. Thanks.
I'm in Jensen Beach. If you get a good attic or outdoor antenna, you'd probably be able to pick up all the major stations, including NBC and CBS. I can pick up ABC (WPBF) and PBS (WXEL) with a tiny indoor antenna.

Does anybody know why this channel has been down for weeks on DirecTV? I know it has been on the air with Comcast.

I am a Comcast West Palm Beach customer who has undergone the recent firmware change for the SA 8300 box. A couple of concerns:
Previously the coaxial digital audio fed my external audio setup, but it no longer functions
Closed captioning requires turning off the box to enable or disable
Anyone else notice these concerns and if so how did you deal with them?

I have read there is a problem outputing audio from the optical output on the box if the audio setting is set to HDMI. This problem apparently does not exist when using the coax output since I use the coax output with the audio set to HDMI and it works.

As far as the CC, how do you turn it on or off with the box off, when there would be no menu viewable on the TV screen?

With the box turned OFF, you click the "SETTINGS" button on the remote and a menu appears. You scroll and change various settings, among them the caption setting. It is the only way to turn on or off.

If you perform the "SETTINGS" routine I mentioned in the previous post, what setting do you see for your audio? I have not found an audio setting that allows output to the digi coax.

I have no 'settings" button on the remote but with the box off, the 'guide' button shows a menu, which I have never seen before. There is no option in it to change the audio output. Do you have a Comcast remote or an old Adelphia remote, which did have a 'settings' button? I do see an option to change the CC, which would be more convenient to me than going into the setup in the menu. I can change the CC in the menu also while the box is on.

My STB is the SA 8300HDC with the new SA25 guide, silver Comcast remote.

I do have the old Adelphia remote.
I have the same STB but I don't know about the SA25.
What is difficult for me is that I use the captions the slight majority of the time, but like to turn them off for some programs. If I am recording and also watching, then when I turn off the box (to turn off captions) it also turns off recording. I cannot turn off captions when the box is on. That is just unacceptable. Well I guess it is acceptable since I haven't thrown the thing away - yet.

The new guide (S25 not SA25, my mistake), is the recent software / firmware update you received. I think you should turn in the old Adelphia remote and get the silver remote, labeled Comcast. Perhaps this is why you can't enter the setup menu for the CC and all the other functions available with this new guide. Comcast sent out much information concerning the new guide setup and their DVR's prior to the update.

I'll try that.
I saw a lot of information, but much of it did not apply to those of us with the old Adelphia equipment. If I understand you correctly, it appears that it is the remote and not the STB that is the problem.
Please tell me about how you use the Comcast remote to turn captioning on and off.
