Ipod or other MP3 player speaker docks

I'm in the market to get some MP3 player in the 8GB size...likely an Ipod nano. This is for my wife's b-day.

I also wanted to get her one of those speaker docks so she can listen to music while in the kitchen.

Which combination and/or which speaker docks provide the best sound quality value for the dollar?

the nano is a good choice...

as far as a sound dock... what kind of budget are we talking?

Something small ideally, but that can still sound ok in a larger room

Does the pure-fi sound good? Trying to pick a set of ipod speakers for my sister. Budget <= $100. No clue at all when it comes to these little gizmos.
