Hmm the distance by almost halve is a bit strange, are the setting on the sub the same as when you had the 805/885?
One thing I notice right away was the volume knob the 886 is allot more firm, or rather tighter when raising the volume than the 806's. The 806 is not loose per say, but just a bit easier to rotate...I guess it's unit to unit thing..and wouldn't have never notice in the absence of the 886.
The OSD for the menus is more how would I say, more colorful
. Besides the Dynamic/Volume EQ there is of course the many additional video settings which can be set for each input. Additional THX settings one being THX Loudness which I disabled so I can experiment with DynamicEQ.
I find that Dynamic EQ works excellent but found the Dynamic Volume (low) effects the dynamic range at higher volumes. What I found was when watching ZZ Top Live in Texas (excellent BD) that with the volume level at say -15.0 was lower with the Dynamic Volume on than with just Dynamic EQ on. I will experiment some more but I will most likely use Dynamic Volume just for TV viewing.
I am in the process of running Audyssey again and I am trying different mic locations. I have followed the diagram in the Audyssey thread and do six measurements all within 24"-28" from the center position then the last two (7-8) inside of those six measurements. This is suggested if you do not have much room behind the main listening position. I actually have enough room behind the ole' Lazboy to take measurements behind it. My room is not the best with one side of the room opening to a staircase/diningroom. The surrounds are on the ceiling due to not having two sidewalls.
Well I just checked the Audyssey settings and the sub distance is still off with a distance of 5.6'
. I posted this issue in the Audyssey thread but it got buried before Chris could see it I believe. I e-mailed Audyssey yesterday and maybe they can help me out with this issue. There are no sub setting or location changes from when I ran Audyssey with my 885. The 885 and 805 measured the distance at about 10'-11'.
So far with brief listening I am happy with the SQ of the 886 especially with Dynamic EQ enabled. Played a few SACDs with the BDP-83 and I find the bass to strong where as with movies it is fine. I will have play around some more with the settings for SACD.
