Sharp LC52D85U Opinions - Page 2

I finally got my lc52d85u sharp. TV looks great haven't noticed any banding like you guys were talking about, and just for the record its my first flat panel lcd tv also.

I mainly bought it because i was finally getting a PS3. And to give you a heads up when you set the PS3 to 1080p it doesn't register the screen goes black and will only run on 1080i. Can anyone help?

- The PS3 doesn't have an internal scaler. You have to check off 720p and 1080i/p to get HD resolutions.

It is the standard rule for any type of device that has been in the cold. Best is to keep it covered for the most part with its plastic cover or trash bag to let it acclimate gradually to warmer temps. Otherwise, you get condensation. During this time, the TV should be OFF.

i got mine yesterday.....very impressed with the picture. I am very happy.

Has anyone adjust their settings with it yet for optimal viewing? I probably won't calibrate it till after the new year.

Had mine about a week now...NO BANDING AT ALL !! AMAZING PICTURE! sure there may be better TVs out there...But no way will you find a 52" picture this good for 1399.00 and a FREE BLU-RAY player!! PLEASE CALIBRATE YOUR TVS!! alot of the "poor" SD performance can be fixed with DVE calibration...I LIKE IT!!

I received this monster last Friday, 5 days shipping time so not bad. I can say this HDTV provides the most outstanding picture I have ever seen. Absolutely NO banding issues.
The anti-reflective screen just about eliminates any nasty glare. The picture was just perfect, right out of the box! Or so it seemed to my eyes. Those desireous to tweak the picture will be in 7th heaven, hue and intensity, backlite, sharpness, screen position are all customizable.
I believe its obvious I love my new LC52D85U. Oh lastly, I bought a line conditioner from Amazon, a Tripp Lite line conditioner and surge protector, I had an old model for years and whenever I heard it 'CLICKING' I knew the unit had payed for itself.

Hi all,
I really don't know what to buy: lc-46d85u or lc-46d65u?
Does anyone notice any differences between the models beside the differences in the technical spec?

I have a request, I'll appropriate if someone can take and upload a zoomed photo of the centered tag on the back of the TV, where the power details are written. It's important to me to know if the set support 110-240V beside the obvious 120V.

Thanks

Particlejams, could you please let me know where you got your LC52D85U?
I am also looking for same LCD for few weeks, best price i could find so far is ~ 1500$ + free Bluray player (no tax, free shipping) at Amazon. You seem to have paid less.

Thanks in advance,
Naim

Hi,

I am about to order one of the following, Sharp LC52D85U / LG 52LG70 / Samsung LN52A650. All are 120hz / 52 inch / supports 1080p/24fps. Sharp LC52D85U has price advantage compared to other 2 and also free bluray player deal available.

Found recent review of LC52D85U at "ultimateavmag.com", its quiet positive.

Looking at review details, i see that LC52D85U displays 1080p/24fps inputs at 96Hz vs. Samsung and LG displays at 120hz. Wanted to check the owners experience watching bluray with 1080p/24fps input. Not sure if displaying at 96hz vs 120hz would make noticable difference with 1080p/24fps inputs.

Other feedback i am looking for is the contrast ratio, Sharp LC52D85U seem to have 10000:1 dynamic contrast vs 40000:1 at Samsung LN52A650. Wanted to check if LC52D85U owners are happy with contrast performance of the unit.

Thanks in advance for the feedbacks.

It was sears...one day only...the saturday before xmas...it was a doorbuster deal...the next day it was 1699...now its 1899...just wait a week...it will come down again possibly....now on the contrast ratio...keep in mind that the different brands all use diff was to measure this ratio...i spent hours actually looking at tvs in the stores (2 HOURS AT BEST BUY ONE DAY) my eyes always found the Aquos line more pleasing...no complaints about this tv at all!!

D85 has 120 hz and better contrast and a 10 bit panel (more color processing) D65 does not

Just bought it today (SHARP LC-52D85U 120Hz) . I cannot figure out how to switch from mono to at least stereo. It supposedly has the MTS feature. The manual says to push the "Audio" button underneath the flap of the remote. It then says to "toggle" between mono, stereo, etc. but nothing happens. It just stays on mono. I tried switching to channels that I know broadcast in stereo. It still won't work. Can anybody help? I'm newer to all this! Also, what does it mean to "Calibrate" your set like another writer suggested? Thank You!

I've had my LC46D85U for the last week and I love it.
I've noticed no banding and works great.

It would be great to have an Official LCxxD85U thread.

Yeah I was looking for a blu ray to test out and remember liking the movie on sd so I grabbed it. Looks fantastic.

Speaking on a previous post about the 120hz, I don't see anything in the manual or on-screen menus mentioning it so I just assume it's on by default. I would like some clarification on it though.

Looks nice now; it'll look even better as you gradually tweak your settings to your room and your liking. Congrats.

did u manage to get the video effect. not sure if i would like it but would be nice to have to decide. sony, sammy, and vizio all have it with 120hz. i would imagine sharp should b the same.
Thats what I can't figure out. It has a 'film mode' which detects a film source (24 fps) and analyzes it and recreates each frame in Hi def. It has a I/P which I don't fully understand. I see nothing mentioning 120hz (although its easy to tell its on when watching football) and the manual is pretty lacking.

I bought my 52" 85u about 2 months ago with a $1499 price match at Best Buy. I've played DVDs and PS3 so far and she looks great! I found settings from another website but I don't think it made my games looks any better than the stock settings. I haven't noticed any banding on my set either but I'm just going by me inspecting while watching. How are you guys testing for banding?
Would you mind sharing your settings?
