guys,

i tried to search for awhile on the forums and through google, but was unable to find anything about this. i have a vizio GV47L lcd, and after over a year of using it, a pink and snowy screen comes up when i use the hdmi ports. i have checked the cables and the receiver and was able to isolate it to the tv itself. i managed to get to work for a viewing of the HULK on bd the other week, but now it is just the pink snow. vizio wasn't able to tell me **** about it. any similar problems or fixes? thanks in advance.

Check the HDMI cable or connection. Sounds like the HDCP handshake is failing.

tried that several times. replaced the cables, switched cables, went back and forth from my bd to hd-dvd player, and still nothing.

yea, i know, vizio is a POS. it performed what was expected of it for the 1.5 yrs that i had it. i would've gotten better but the ol' lady was carrying another baby so i had to go cheap, or just not buy formula.

i am using the component cables right now, not too shabby but i cannot the dts-ma or truehd without using the hdmi.

Maybe a last gasp here: Has it been tried to reset all the controls to factory settings? I would try reset, turn it off, unplug the Visio, plug it back in, turn it on and retry.

I feel for you man. My Vizio (same model) died on me last week after almost 2 years. It was working perfectly. Luckley, I bought it from costco before the new retun policy. I retuned it and god my 1800 back and just purchased a sony 52w plus a bd player for that same amount.
Call Vizio (or costco if you bought it from them) and they might help.

1st VIZIO is not CRAP. If they are then Philips, LG are CRAP also as that is what makes up most of these TV - Panel, MTK Processor, and Samsung Dtuner module. WE own three VIZIO's all Gallevia Series GV42LF (LG-Philips Panel), GV46LF (Samsung/Sony Generation 6 Matte Panel), and GV52LF(LG-Philips) and all have been great. -----Now to the issue!! Our GV42LF has done the same thing before, right after a person yanked on the HDMI cable pulling down and at an angle and I think bending the HDMI on the female end of the jack on the main board on the tv. After we would plug the HDMI in and either not get a picture or it would be lines of green, pink and then snow. Ocassionally reading some funky resolutions like 1667x967 and such, though not always. If we would hold the HDMI connector still or wiggle gently at times it would clear up. Not the fault of the tv's for misuse. But to each is own.

I was waiting for the first Vizio fanboy to show up.

If the HDMI connection is so messed up that you need to jiggle it to make it work, that's bad quality. I would not spend $1000+ on a TV and then call it "misuse" when your HDMI connection breaks and needs to be jiggled to make work.

Vizio is a good "Budget Brand" and nothing more, you basically get what you pay for.

Nothing wrong with using component, it will pass just as good HD quality as HDMI and I don't think you main board is fried otherwise you would see the same thing no matter if it was HDMI or component.

It sounds like your HDMI connecter is broke. Don't know if that is a costly out of warranty fix or not. But component does not bring you down in notch in PQ.

Oye, so I guess your Samsung HDMI jacks are made of titanium, you could bring a sledgehammer to it and it wouldn't bust huh

Well stated!

I had 2 GV 47's and returned both due to various QC issues, having said that, I would still try to go up the food chain at V to mitigate a replacement, but be nice...V has such a small staff you stand a good chance at maybe getting a repair or replacement.

I currently have a 50" V Plasma that I recently bought on the cheap at Sam"s Club for my vacation home in AZ. OK for part-time viewing, but not an everyday set...but when it croaks I can return it to Sam's with no issues.

i am not too concerned with he 1080i issue via component. i am more upset with the fact that i do not have a way to listen to dts-ma or truehd anymore since i have to use the component and cannot use hdmi for audio only.

I was watching The Office last week when I heard a loud pop and then the screen went blank. I bought my GV47l at Costco in January, 2007. I called and found that it was still under warranty. I was told Costco policy changed in February 2007 and that I fell under the two year warranty. They had Vizio call me and I was told a technician would call within 3-5 business days and they would either repair or replace the set.

I thought about it a bit and called Costco back to find out what the policy was before they changed it. After some discussion, I found I could return the GV47L for a full refund. I took it in that afternoon and got a credit for $1800. I then bought a SV470XV and a VO22L and still had a little left over. I also signed up for an American Express credit card, which gave me a 3 year warranty.

As far as you know, yes, since you've never owned a Samsung

the guy finally came and replaced the motherboard. this jackass tried telling me that if just jiggle the cords until it works, then i should be ok. after a brief conversation, he finally fixed it the way that it should be.
