Oh God.....my AE3000U was left on for 40 hours....where is the auto shut off?!?!

My gf dragged me out of the room the other night and I never remembered to turn off the projector, but I did turn off the sources......so my AE3000 sat on its blue screen flickering the f**king input selection for 40 hours straight!!!

I immediately turned it off. Before I turn it back on, what should I expect?

My Sanyo had an auto-off feature after a few minutes. Why the HELL doesn't the AE3000U have this?!?! Or at least turn off the lamp??!

Well, good news. I can't see any difference in the image and don't see any burn in from the input selection. I bet the color balance is way off since it was just a blue screen for 40 hours, but judging from what I'm seeing, it didn't hurt it.

At least now I know that it doesn't have any sort of auto shut off. But for such a well designed product, it really should have one. Even my 4 year old plasma turns off if it doesn't have an input for 10 minutes.

I am not at home but I believe there is a auto off setting on the projector buried in the menus...

AWBoy...

No need to worry. LCD is not like Plasma.

No Burn in and color balance is fine too.

You just have 40 hours on the bulb now.

LCD often does suffer image persistance which is like temporary burn-in. It can take a long time to go away if you do get it and some displays get it less than others.

You just have to weigh whether the benefit from your girlfriend dragging you away was worth having 40 hours on the bulb. Sounds like a pretty good trade off to me -- especially if it lasted 40 hours.

There is an auto off function with multiple settings between 1 hour and 4 hours. Panasonic made the default position "off", which perhaps wasn't the best choice..................................

I'll be out of luck if I want to watch a LOTR trilogy extended version, even at the 4 hour setting. Better remember to turn it off. Is there a warning screen before it shuts off?

Actually, the "sleep" function, which is the function described here, will turn off the projector even if you are watching something. It happened to me last week.

I watched a bunch of stuff last night and didn't see any issues, thankfully. I really don't watch much stuff so I'm not worried about the time on the bulb. Thanks guys!

And PS: She dragged me away across the hall to the bedroom......so yes, the 40 hours was definitely worth it.

Oh, one of those, huh? That's the only option available? Even my first projector, a cheapy Optoma from Costco, had the "idle" off option.

Yep. The expensive and top of the middle market AE3000U doesn't have an auto-off or idle off function.

Kind of embarassing.

Well, keep in mind...the projector has an IQ of zero. So the actual owner is supposed to be bright enough to turn it off when done viewing. Most plasma tv's don't have any dummy lights or dummy functions either...

so if u got draged out of hte room didnt you go bakc adn shut off the audio? if not why would you shutoff your audio and not projector, its kinda your own fault invest in a harmonary remote so if u go back to turn off one thing they all turn off

Depending on my mood, sometimes I want to turn off the g/f and go back to watching movies, beer in hand. Is a one-button function to do this available on the Harmony (or other) remote?

I do have a Harmony.....it doesn't reflect well off of my screen so it turned off the receiver and player, but not the projector

Our harmony reflects off the screen just fine... though we did have to program the remote to send the off signal twice. Once brings up the power off menu, the second one actually shuts it off.
