WASHINGTON - Three electronics firms have agreed to plead guilty and pay $585 million in fines for conspiring to drive up prices for people buying computers, TVs and other LCD screens.

In a plea deal filed Wednesday, LG Display Co. Ltd., Sharp Corp., and Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd., agreed to cooperate in an antitrust investigation being run by the Justice Department.

The plea agreement was filed in federal court in San Francisco.

Does this mean LCD owners are getting a check?

Nothing to do with the plasma forum. Two previous threads on the same topic, have recently been moved to the LCD forum, where they belong.

You say this has nothing to do with plasma, but it actually does. If these LCD manufacturers have been keeping LCD prices artificially high, then this suit might trigger a huge change in the pricing structure of LCD sets. And that would affect all of us here. Whether we wanted to stay with plasma or not, it would impact prices on both LCD and plasma.
