Kung Fu Panda... lets you know your sub sucks - Page 7

Watched KFP last night with my Epik Tower and was completely satisfied with the overall presentation. I felt that the bass in the first few scenes were more pronounced than the skidoosh scene, although that was cool as well. I just thought there was some more impressive bass hits thru the movie than the skidoosh, but that's just me.....

Yeah, there's two scenes that really stand out in my mind. The first one is actually at the beginning when Kung Fu Panda is dreaming, and he slams his hand down in the table.

The other is when Tai Lung swings off of the wooden bridge and lands behind the Furious 5.

I just got my blu-ray DVD from amazon.com, of course. I have a SVS SB-12plus, "Rosie". 12 inch driver, 425 watts. I am expecting good things. Anyone else use the mighty mouse for this movie yet?

It should do well, but it also depends on your room size/acoustics to really determine your experience. YMMV I'm sure you will like your sub. I don't own your sub, but these ID subs are hard to beat at the price/performance standpoint.

What does ymmv mean? I have had this sub for 10 months now, it has been great with other movies. But since people seeem to be pointing out this one in particular as a bass reference, I was just wondering if I would hear the same things some of them claim to hear with their good subs. Not that mine isn't good, it's great , and I might be getting an Ultra soon for the fun of it , but I know Rosie will do a fine job all by herself.

YMMV=your mileage may vary. I'm sure you've got a great presentation to show to your friends. As far as getting an ultra, I think you might achieve some lower bass with more output, but YMMV

I am confident he would achieve lower bass and more output going to an Ultra.

Man, Rosie was sweet with this movie. The Skidoosh scene wasn't what I would call the loudest in the movie, as others have noted, but it still had an umph to it. It kind of reminded me of the Hulk movie with the air wave scene. Anyhow, excellent results with my mighty mouse as expected. Now, I wonder if the Ultra would be noticeably more impressive? Hmm.

Rosie is sweet and all. I love Rosie. I got a couple of Rosies myself. But with the Ultra, we're talking about nearly an entire octave deeper and with the output of about three Rosies. It's a different ballpark.

It is hard for me to imagine it being three times the output of Rosie. Just looking at basic physical features, the driver in the Ultra is just one inch bigger, 12 vs. 13, and the amp is 750 watts vs 425 watts. Of course the Ultra would be ported too, which might make most of the difference.

Also look at the size of the enclosure,(huge), the build of the driver and what its capable of putting out, 3 massive ports which enables the sub to go much lower with higher db output and finally the amp is actually closer to 900watts RMS which SVS decided to rate at 750watts.

Believe me, I had no idea what I was going to experience before receiving the 13 Ultra...its rediculous how much power and depth this thing has, its downright frightening at times.
Yup Sb12 vs Pb13. P13 has a better driver that's 17% more surface area. 76% bigger cabnit which has alot to do with it. 3 Ports and almost twice the power. Vs a sealed smaller sub. I can belive it's 3x the spl. A single pb10 will play louder than a Sb12 I 'm told but the Sq maynot be as good. That has a smaller driver less watt but the large enclosure / port is where it's at. That's why you see all those giant subs out there. Co$t alot to keep subs small.

The 13 Ultra driver is one of the true beasts out there. The difference in diameter from the "Plus" is only about 1.5", but it's capability to displace air due to it's excursion is huge. It's really too bad that back part of the 13 Ultra driver really can't be seen once it's installed in the sub. It's a massive thing of beauty.

13 Ultra driver = 55 lbs of bass joy 15 lbs more than an entire SB12 plus the box.... Oh, sorry this thread is about Kung Fu Panda...

Yeah nothing is wrong with showing someone how to enjoy KFP 3x as much
Fwiw Ask Svs but a Pb13 = 3-4x a single Pb10 depending on frequency. That's just spl not Sq
so it's not hard to belive compare to a SB12

The Ultra driver is a true thing of brawn/beauty IMO. I like that blue basket and chrome motor.

I based my "3x" estimate on my own comparison between a PB13 and a pair of SB12's The single PB13 will pretty much match the SB12 pair outputwise at 50hz and up. By 40hz, the margin of difference is now much wider. 30hz and lower, fuggettaboutit.

Wow, I just watched KFP blu-ray DDTHD and the bass in places of the movie was good. When he does the skadoosh move, I thought just for s*its and giggles it would be cool to remove the grill from my SVS Pb10-Nsd. The air blowing out of the sub from the sound wave was really slick to experience on that scene)

I loved watching that movie with my Epik Tower! Finger scene was sweet.

I'm not sure how this movie does this. I'm wondering if the 25Hz boost area is somehow done based on some kind noise filtering. I'm thinking there was nothing in the other speakers or very little durring these heavy bass scenes making them more clear? When I watch The Matrix Reloaded there are all kinds of 102dB peaks. I counted over a half dozen in about 5 minutes of the film and there were a couple that were 104dB (also uncorrected). There is also bass in the surrounds and the mains at the same time which makes it more auidble and a bit more of what I think people might be describing as overdone. I think this has to do with where the bass is sent, less to do with boost? Just my theory.
Take that as a no... Must be the boost then.

I watched some of this movie last night as a special treat for my (2) new A2-250's. I got up this morning & rewatched it with sub sound only. I wanted to hear what happens inside my home at certain peak moments. Well I ended up recalibrating (-1) db after hearing it naked. Really impressive stuff here. I am still feeling my way thru & don't want to break anything...including the subs.

Someone explain this to me. I just got a new PC-13 Ultra. I put on the Skidoosh scene. First of all, the sound was beyond description. But on my big screen some kind of contortion happened when watching it. It "looked like" my big screen plasma moved/swayed/bent/wavered I do not know how else to decribe it. I looked at it several times, I cannot believe the TV is actually moving/swaying. It would probably fall off the stand if it moved as much as it appeared. So I assume it is some kind of optical illusion caused by the sound pressure I dunno. Can a bass scene like this played at near reference level (-5) on an Ultra cause such visual effects?
Dunno maybe your head is about to explode from the pressure?.......

Rosie definately did not give me the same visual and audio affects that the new Ultra did.

In is mostly like visual distortion caused from your head vibrating.

By the way, do you believe me now when I told you:

Sure I can easily see visual distortion caused by sneezing, or blowing your nose...even clearing your throat!

YeS I am SICK!....rotten cold..
