Less RROD with NXE?

Do you think not having the dvd drive always running will lessen or prevent the occurrence of the RROD?

It would be interesting if someone could measure the internal temp after an hour of gaming without the game installed versus having the game installed.

Unless not having something in the drive magically makes the X-Clamps disappear or the mobo quadruple in thickness, it's not going to make much difference.*

However, if one decides to remove the DVD drive completely and make it an external drive, then the internal temps could be lowered somewhat. (Not to mention the temp of the drive itself is lowered astronomically.) Keep in mind that this mod would aslo require a reworking of the airflow configuration. This still doesn't affect RROD much, but it can prolong laser life.

*First and formeost RROD is a hardware issue that is compounded by heat...NOT a heat issue only.

Do the later model Falcons hold up any better? I have a Lot 839X sitting at home right now - I'm afraid to open it but I've been reading that I should be okay. Massive improvements compared to launch. ???

Why are people afraid of their consoles? Open the thing and use it! If it does foul up on you, you're covered and out nothing.

Nope...Just as many. It will just take longer for it to RROD. I am sure MS is hoping they won't show up until after the 3 year RROD warranty.

I've seen Falcons die within 48 hours of retail purchase. NO 360 ever made, regardless of lot # or stock parts inside, is death-proof. Still, there's no reason to not play the thing since you are covered or can easily fix it yourself if it croaks.

I've had two Falcons die in a years time.

Don't know about you guys, but I'm waiting for the Xeon Neo X Bandit with Bald Eagle chip to come out before I play any more.

Sadly, it's hard to tell if anyone is joking or not in regard to "what's inside" anymore.
