I was at BB a couple days ago and they had the XBR8. It was like 7 grand though.

i think its only on te 52" like someone mention before. makes sense though. You would think the XBR8 would have the 240hz on all the models though on top of the LED backlight trilumonus or w/e sony is calling. it.. I know the 70" XBR7 has the better bravia engine that the 8 has because of it's bigger size.

Ok... so I guess they have updated their website recently because not so long time ago they wrote both 120hz and 240hz on the same page for this model.

40" is 120hz.

to the owners of a 40 inch XBR7 how come you chose this over the XBR6 which has all different size tv's instead of just two sizes liek teh XBR7 (52 and 40)

Will that 70" xbr7 ever get reviewed? I'd like to see it get outperformed by the xbr8. Sure a 70" is big, but for 10"s less the 151fd saves you 15 grand. Kind of puts things into perspective. 15 grand is a good start towards a nice sound system...heh

Wanted a 40" all along. I had saved for a long time and wanted an XBR2 and then the XBR4 and I had just saved enough when I came across a sale where I could afford either the XBR6 or the XBR7. I liked the side speaker design better than the speaker placed under the screen.

But I'm not your typical American consumer. I saved for almost four years and replaced a 27" Trinitron KV-27FS100 that I loved.

Here is a really terrible picture of the 70 inch XBR7 in my local Sony Store (Chinook Centre for Calgary people who want to take a peak). It was so funny seeing people just stop dead to look at it. They were playing the Blu-Ray Wall-E on it.

Is it just me or does the base look a little small for that big of a screen? I wonder if it's even safe to wall mount something that big.

I would love to have seen this thing in person. Obviously, it's not unusual to see DLPs this big, but as a flat panel, it must have been pretty impressive.

I have not seen that TV at Metreon. I will check today at lunch time. By the way, I just came from Metreon in SF, and I have not seen any 70 inch display there. It is now 1:02 PM here.

I went there after Thanksgiving they said they will have it in 2 weeks well before Christmas, so keep an eye! I am in Peninsula and will visit up to the city, once they have it set up.

I own the XBR7 40" and I love it. We went with the LCD because we have a room with a lot of glare and the LCD handles it well (or so I've been told). We have had it for a few weeks now and we enjoy it very much. Can see the glare on the gloss black frame during the daytime, but the screen is very bright and the glare is not noticeable across the image.

The 5020 is 50" and the XBR7 only comes in 40" and 70", so that's not a very even comparison.


I'd like to chat with someone who bought the 70" because I'd be interested to see how they use it (on a stand or wall-mounted, etc.) and how it works in the scale of the room. Just out of curiosity, really...

my mistake. I didn't know about the 52" since that isn't available yet.

It's strange that the sonystyle website has the photo for the 52" XBR7 with the speaker bar below the screen like the XBR6 instead of on the sides.

that's because that is the way it is....it's the xbr6 design, unlike the other xbr7's which have the xbr8 design. the claim to fame for the 52xbr7 is 240Hz, the only one in the entire lineup, but probably going to be added to many more in the lineup in 2009 since sony is launching its first world-wide bravia advertising/marketing campaign which highlights the 240Hz frame rate.

I have been waiting for a response in the XBR7 thread forevveerrr!! i feel like your the only one with this set. Im on teh fence on LCD vs. Plasma and i was looking at the 5020 but when i saw the 6020 at BB i was not impressed, i was more impressed by the XBR6 next to it, but those have had mostly negative reviews.
Plus the 5020 seems to be outta my price range and if i were to spend that much on plasma id take it a step further and get the Elite models. But anyway im just wondering how this XBR7 compares to the XBR6 or what other TV's you ave comared this to. But if you dont mind answering some questions because this was the original TV i had in mind.
-What other brands/models did you compare this PQ to?
-DO you find teh 40 inch to be small?
-IS there any smearing, motion blur??(like with fast action scenes etc.) Yah know the usual sony issue!
-Are night scenes blurry, have mura, or fuzzy in anyway? or are they just black
-I play alot of video games, so im wondering how it is with that?
-This set looks great i wish the XBR8 would come down in price but even the 46 incher would still be outta my price range. ANd for a 40 inch TV this is a little expensive so i wanna make sure my money is being well spent.
All in all i would just like a more detailed review of WHAT YOU THINK about the TV!! I have found no reviews(which i find useles unless they are consumer reviews).

The cnet review for the 240hz 52" XBR7 is up. Sounds like just an OK set for the price. Not really worth it.

yea i just read the review..now my thought are screwed from it i dunno if i will be purchasing the 40xbr7 or any LCD for that matter. Nothing new that comes out seems to be any good even samsungs 650 suck cuz they lack game mode controls and have horrible lag. But its like come on man, can any1 make a good tv!!

I agree, doom with sony strike x 3. Now CES for first quarter wait for xbr9, 10, back light/240HZ= 55 inch $15K this time lol

I was planning to get an XBR6 during this holiday season, but i see XBR7 prices have dropped. I was thinking of getting XBR7, but i don't know if it is much better or lightly better XBR6. I like the XBR7 design, but the price is kind of high.

So can you guys give me some tips or hints between XBR6 and XBR7, which one is money well spent on?
