Thinking of going with a internal BR drive for my HTPC...Which s/w to use?

See topic.....

I still think its useless to spend ~$100 on a component and then spend another ~$70 on software just to play BR content....

Anyway, I'm selling my PS3 (excellent BR player but I hardly use it while my 360 gets most of the luv but thats another story). From my research, it seems the Cyberlink software that comes with the BR drive is gimped down.

From browsing here, the 2 popular BR software are ArcSoft and PowerDVD.

Which one would be better? I have WinXP SP3 btw too and will be passing 5.1 audio to my Onkyo receiver via optical.

Thanks

So I guess nobody here uses any other BR software, huh ?

TMT and PowerDvd are the two main pieces of software people use. Though WinDVd and Nero can also play Blu-Ray. Which one is better can be subjective, but I think more people are leaning towards TMT at the moment

There are no freeware players, if that is what you are looking for

That's because you answered your own question in your first post.

From here on out comparing PDVD to TMT, it's like the paper or plastic argument. You gotta read th rough the postings and determine what suits your needs best.

I have had a great experience with TMT. I also like that it can be launched from inside MCE and never have to use a keyboard.

Theres always the option of ripping your blu-ray collection to HD and demuxing/remuxing it into an mkv with flac audio that you could play using MPC HC or another directshow player with the appropriate codecs. All the tools you'd need (eac3to, tsmuxer, bdinfo etc) are free except one, anydvd hd costs 79 euros.

Hmmm.....that's discussed in this thread here, right?
