Yeah, that's the reason

I don't even know if there is a way to plug a breach if it did happen. Maybe they could do something to slow it down if it isn't a full-on tear, but if they are trapped in an icefield at that point, I would say it's game over before they could get out in open water to be "rescued".

...and when they were sawing up wood blocks and beams? What was that going to accomplish? If something has enough force to push through a steel-plating hull, I doubt you could build any kind of ad-hoc wooden brace that could structurally augment the steel plating any better than it is on its own.

Its just another display of how stupid the people are on that ship.

I agree with that! The smarter ones were the ones putting on their orange cold-suits in preparation of disaster.

It would be like taking the cap off of an upside-down 2 liter bottle of Pepsi and then trying to stop the flow with a piece of cooked spaghetti.

I can't believe Steve Irwin would have left his name attached to this.

They should have called it the Charles Darwin.

Looks like the next episode will be really interesting.

Wouldn't it be awesome if the boats all turned on their LRAD's at the same time on high and pointed them at the Steve Irwin, errr, Stupid Idiots?

Looks like the hunter has now become the hunted.

We were out in a storm on our 60' fire/rescue boat (aluminum) when we hit a rock jetty. It tore a 16" slice in the hull. We inserted an inflatable PFD and inflated it. It did not completely seal the leak but slowed the water to the point were the bilge pumps could keep up. We have a de-watering pump (which I doubt the Steve Irwin has) to handle the rest until we got to a lift.

I love whales but find myself cheering for the Japanese.

Ah, that is some fast thinking and clever solution!

Nice, a "Fix-a-flat" for water vessels.

Boring episode tonight, but one thing stays the same, they ALWAYS make some kind of mistake. The battery dead on the SAT phone, lol. I would love to see them lose the Dutch flag for throwing things off the ship, protecting the ship was a JOKE, they just used that excuse to throw some acid.

How many weeks have we been waiting for the Japanese to pull out the LRAD?

Now that would be worth watching

Looks like they finally fire it up next week.

We keep saying that. And then in the end, it the whole episode is like a teaser for what's going to happen next. However, I still like the show. And I suppose it IS a reality show. So they can only show what really happens. No matter how much they edit, and induce hyperbolic emphasis.

They're good at those teaser trailers, but it just winds up being more of the same posturing for a big event that never happens.

That said, I still keep watching :P

Anyone else feel like next weeks episode with the LRAD'S is just all hype. Seems too good to be true, they make it seem like the heli is in trouble and the guy on the small ship is messed up, I just dont buy it. I would love to be wrong about it though.

The guy in the small boat probably gets hit in the head with a bolt...now that would be funny.

We keep hoping they'll use it - but this is the first time that you hear the LRAD in use in the previews.

They gave a teaser on the premiere this year when a whale gets harpooned. It's coming.

I hope it shows all the grown men on that show crying too.

My fav line from this weeks episode was "they don't think like us, they're whalers."

At least this episode showed that a few people have some brains on the ship when they spoke out against taking a sharp harpoon on an inflatable boat. Oh but how I wanted to see them pop there boat with it.
That was an awesome demonstration of strategic piloting by the Jpn whalers where they herded the Sea Shepard away from the main processing ship! Too bad they couldn't keep it herded off course until the processing ship could speed out of radar range.

If I was on the Japanese ships I'd sit back with my nice warm whale ramen and laugh at the Shepard crew.
