online retailer?

As I sit here looking for a good price on an 42" Panny plasma, I was wondering if anyone has purchased their HDTV's from any of the online retailers? I see that 6th Ave has a really good price on the set that I want, but I'm just wondering about buying online?

Personally, I have never had a bad experience buying online, but I would like to hear your opinions; in particular, buying plasma or LCD tv's online...

THANKS!!!

.. purchased from Forum sponsor; no problems, if fact .. unit arrived packed like the Mars lander (exaggerating abit). plus, add the sponsor's "reputation" on this Forum & thru-out. Price competitive w/ local & online.

Also, purchased a RPTV several yrs ago from OneCall; almost identical service w/ no problem. Ordered Audio equipment from 6Ave w/ no problem. Both- good reputations. Plus B&H Audio/Video: speakers.

Lastly, ordered Toshiba LCD thru 'big river'; also, very good delivery/service.

Caveate: All above transactions, have had no service calls, misc., which is an important part of "being happy & satisfied" .. but will say, felt more at ease buying from the Forum sponsor. They tend to bend over backwards whenever there were issues about coverage of this or that.

.. ^^ Forum sponsors are the ones who have ad. icon tabs at top/bottom of this Forum page, specifically VisualApex, PlasmaConcepts, the two Chris's (Cleveland Plasma, MountAVision), ROMAN (BuyBestPlasma) & several others.

Note: bought from ROMAN & service/attention/communication was first-rate.

The tabs on the bottom are being re worked but we are still here.

I bought an Onkyo surround system from Vanns and they were top-notch.

Im thinking about buying a tv online. The 46pz800u at Amazon is selling at an unbelievable price right now but I have my doubts. Is there a reason for the price drop other than the 46 inch line being discontinued? Another question would be, will there be parts for the 46" line if the tv happens to break?

Edit: I bought a Clarion Max675VDII online. Sent the unit back three times for a semi-faulty gear for the lcd, had the same problem every time, ended giving up.

Edit 2: When buying online, a site that ships from your state or closest from where you reside is most preferable. Otherwise if your item is defective, shipping cost and time becomes an issue.

I'm almost ready to purchase a new flat-panel TV and wanted to support the forum sponsors here. Is there a comprehensive list of forum sponsor websites somewhere on this board? (Several of the names you mentioned above don't appear to have ad icons) I've tried searching and so far this post was the closest I have found so far.

Thanks,
Brian

The adds are above and they used to be below but are gone now and should be fixed soon.

I bought a set from ABT Electronics online and was very pleased with the results.

I have also bought cables and such from forum sponsors and had good experiences.

Buying small items online is something that we all have done, and it is no big deal. Spending $2K-4$K online is a different story for most of us, there is some pucker factor involved, what if it gets damaged in shipping, if it doesn't work can we ship it back, etc... Most of the people here who post about their bad experience with online buying are the exception, not the rule.

I just purchased a Pioneer Pro-111Fd from ********************* (Forum Sponsor). I was at first worried about shipping damage but Robert had the Tv professionally shipped. It was a very good transaction. I am very happy with Roberts service. I will be Buying another one from him next year.

Too answer your question always check for comments or custumer reviews of the site that you plan to buy from. If there is any problems with that site I am sure a post here or on google would surface about it. Always read the sites return policy! It seems alot of unknown online retailers hides the fact that the great price for a bigger LCD\\Plasma comes with no warranty! I would try a AVS sponsor first.

Here are the ones i can remember, just add a dot and com after the names:

BuyBestPlasma

ClevelandPlasma

InvisionDisplays

MountAVision

PlasmaConcepts

****************

VirtualApex

I wouldn't hesitate to buy from any of these vendors - all of them are reputable and worthy of our business.

I'm looking into buying a panny plasma but am worried about buying online and getting dead pixels. Is that something to worry about?

.. purchasing online or from a local B/M, you probably run into the same situation. Manufacturers won't 'guarantee' a perfect no-dead pixel set; most say 2-3 are reasonable. Some so-called dead pixels work themselves out & begin functioning normally. Lastly, some B/M's frown on people bringing sets back w/ minimual dead/stuck/misc. pixel problems, especially in this economy.

I wasn't aware that this was a problem (or at least a common one) with Plasma TV's. I have a 19" LCD Monitor at work that has 1 dead pixel, but I purchased a 22" widescreen LCD Monitor for my computer that was perfect. The place I purchased from had a well defined policy governing returns for stuck/dead pixels on LCD's.

Take care,
Brian

I think I'm just going to wait for a 10% off coupon at CC or BB and get it there. Being the person that I am, a stuck pixel will bother me even if I don't see it from where I'm sitting. My brother has a Samsung 5084 and he has one dead pixel so he calls his a 1079p HDTV. I just hate that some companies pixel policies are rediculous. At least an at B&M store I can exchange it with no questions asked (hopefully).

I'd check with store in question BEFORE purchasing just to make sure you don't end up with a nasty surprise if you decide to return/exchange the TV.

Take care,
Brian
