Infocus X10/ IN80 Owners thread - Reviews, Settings, Screenshots and issues - Page 22

My Infocus SP5700 is having some issues but it is 5 years old and the bulb is going so an upgrade is warranted. My current setup is a light controlled room, 14 feet wide by 22 feet long with my current projector 19 and 1/2 feet away from a dA-Lite HCCV gray screen that has a 110 inch diagonal.

I have a universal projector mount. Can I place the X10 in the same ceiling location and get the same screen size? I will probably have to tilt the projector and screen (it is a fixed one making tilting possible) to deal with the offset.

It isn't enough to bother me because during movies the sound is up and drowns out the fan. I do notice it while watching low volume TV shows tho.

Thanks, Dan. This is very helpful with my set up. I'm pretty much directly under the projector, and I'm working with a 7' ceiling.

here are pictures that show the shadow-like stripes I notice when viewing my x10

Richochet,
unless your source is a piece of junk, tha'ts not normal. I'm not sure what's wrong there but certainly something is. Contact InFocus and be prepared to email these pics cause they do ask for email info on the phone. I sent an invoice to the Tech support guy for proof of purchase while on the phone.

Contact InFocus. Get this resolved. You're not seeing what you should be. These X10s are awesome.

Richochet,
Try out on another HDMI cable and see does it show the same!!
Could be your cable issues. Good luck.....

Canadian high prices continue - it actually went up and is not moving so far. It's at 1449.97 CA.

So how far above the screen does th X10 have to be mounted if I have a 14' throw w/8 ft ceiling??

No. According the online calculators, 17' 8" is the farthest the X10 will throw 110".

We can't answer this. Here's a quick rundown.

Offset - The distance from the lens centerline to the top edge of the image (not screen framing).

Total Offset - Offset + the lens centerline to ceiling distance

Offset calculation = Screen height * .36

So once you have the screen height (not the diagonal measurement) and the distance between the lens centerline and ceiling, you can easily calculate all the measurements.

Guys could use some advice, i purchased a X10 and need to reduce the vertical offset by 2-3 inches. I am planning to purchase a 92" screen and therefore need 18" of offset distance from the lens to the top of the screen. However, my screen will hang too low and cover up my center channel speaker so im wondering if tilting will give me 2-3" such that i can raise the screen up slightly.

Also i noticed the throw range median spec is 13.8ft for use with a 92" screen, since i plan to tilt, is id adivisable to move the projector slightly back as i notice the range spec is 12.5ft to 14.9ft?

Thanks Cal

Zoom will affect the offset slightly. Check if that can work for ya'

The size/distance alters the amount of needed tilt. I plugged your values of 13' 8" for throw and a 92" screen into the tilt spreadsheet one of the AVS members was kind enough to author and got this:
Tilt - Offset reduction
1* - 2.75"
2* - 5.5"
3* - ~8.25"

In my case for every inch I tilted the screen I recovered around 3" of offset. So taking that and the spreadsheet into account, 1-2" of tilt should get you there.

Thanks for the information, i was curious also if you tilt the projector itself. Is there enough keystone adjustment range to accomodate 2-3 inches of positive offset. Im planning to get a electric screen, so i wont be able to tilt the screen itself.

Thanks Cal

Hate to beat a dead horse, but I have the same question too.

The top edge of my 76" screen is 22" down from my ceiling.
My ceiling is 96" from the floor (8').
I can project roughly 11' away (throw distance).

Before I buy a ceiling mount, how do I setup the PJ with this setup?
Right side up/upside down?
Does the projector based on this line up well or do I need to get a mount that lets it hang down more?

Curious as I have no idea, and want to use a ceiling mount.

Thanks,

Eric

That should answer your set up questions. I used a low profile ceiling mount (the x-10 is designed to hang upside down from the ceiling mount).
I bought the Universal infocus mount that is recommended for the X10.
The only problem with the mount is the centering and when its mounted. I needed a pry bar to spin the mount left or right to center. its only like 2.5 inches down so overall lens to ceiling is 6 inches.

Also in the tilt I noticed it decreases the throw distance.

The projector must be tilted along with the screen. If you are going to use keystone, then I wouldn't bother trying to tilt either the screen or the projector. The reason you would want to employ tilting is to avoid keystoning and it's image degradation. Tilting with a drop down screen would be possible, you would need an anchor point on the floor and a cord to attach it to the screen. This would provide the necessary tilt for the screen. The mount would need to provide it for the projector.

With a ceiling mount the projector would be inverted. Your screen height with a 76" diagonal screen would be about 38". So taking the offset (36%) and multiplying it by screen height, you have a lens centerline to the top of the projected image distance of 13.7". Now you will need to measure the distance from the lens centerline to the ceiling with the projector mounted. Add that to image offset and you will have your total offset. So as an example if you measure 7" from the lens centerline to the ceiling with the projector mounted, your total offset would be 20.7".

Has anyone tried loading up their own start up screen yet?

Im in the middle of mounting my X10 and was curious if anyone can advise that if my optimal throw distance is 13.8ft for a 95" screen, can i set the projector back to 14.8ft without degrading video quality or any other aspect of picture quality. I know the throw range max is 15.4 ft.

Thanks Cal

I think the zoom is so slight on these that it really doesn't make any appreciable difference at the extremes. I had asked the same question before I got mine and was assured that zoom to the extreme was fine. Turns out they were right. You'll be fine.

Just got an email from TD, this is down another hundo for the weekend.

I just got my X10 and thought id pass along a mount idea. Like many of you i was pressed due to throw offset as my drop ceiling is about 7.5ft, i made my own mount using 0.5" MDF and cut out the vent areas and mounting holes on the bottom, by making a stencil of the bottom and transferring it upon a piece of MDF. I then cut out the same areas upon my ceiling tiles to allow the heat to escape through the ceiling tiles. I was able to keep the lens to to ceiling distance at 3.25". I slotted the mounting holes laterally for alignment.

Guys:
I've had issues using an HDMI switch (both powered and unpowered) The issue arises when my Blu Ray player goes from 1080i mode to 1080p. No issues at all when I run the HDMI without a switch. So, I'm going to bite the bullet and make another 35 foot cable run. Has anyone used the M1 adapter that comes with the projector? It's not much more expensive for me to simply order a cable that is hdmi to M1. My next question is does anyone know if the M1 input is P&D style or EVC?

Hey Danfiveoh. I'm using hdmi1 for my direcTV HDDvr and I'm using the M1 adapter as hdmi2 for my PS3. It works perfectly. The x10 switches no problem from 1080P to 720P as necessary depending on the game or movie or whatever else I might be running on the PS3 and there is no picture loss that I can tell. Not sure about P&D or EVC. Personally, I'd just use the adapter that came with the x10.

I haven't with the X10, but I did with my Infocus IN72. Are you having trouble making it work?

I used the M1 port with a 12' dvi/usb to M1 cable from monoprice. Had no issues whatsoever. I don't even remember why now but I switched back to using the Hdmi cable. I saw no difference either way, and either one was recognized as a hdmi input (for whatever reason). I'll say this, the size of the M1-dvi cable from Monoprice led me to believe that a long run might be a stretch for that cable size. I had no good reason for thinking that other than the fact that all my other monoprice cables are like 5/8" diameter and this one was considerably smaller. Truth is the hdmi causes my system to think that I'm sending sound via the hdmi to my projector so there is at least one additional headache from not using the dvi-m1. (for me)

Fyi, the new versions of the X10 do not come with any adapter. So that is why he's not using it already.

Well, mine didn't anyhow.

I took the plunge. Since TigerDIrect was giving a $100 instant savings this weekend I ordered my Infocus X10 yesterday for Tuesday delivery. I was looking at other projectors, including the Infocus IN81, but the cheapest was 2 and 1/2 times more. The only caveat is my inability to see the projector as none of the local distributors had any to demonstrate. I'll report my impressions.

i have an x10 and have been having some problems hooking up a new receiver (onkyo tx-sr607), everytime i try to hook it up i get no video or audio but as soon as i disconnect the projector i get audio just fine, i tried different receivers but still the same problem, wasnt sure if it was something with HDCP encryption but infocus says it should work fine, just wondering if anyone could help, thanks

Actually haven't tried yet, I'm just getting it setup and running. Not real crazy about the Infocus screen. Had a nice one on my last projector and would like to add to the IN82.
Thanks..
