BTW guys, I finally watched Batman, TDK on my 16:9 screen w/ Panny AE-3000...

(If you guys remember I have a dual screen setup... 16:9 is 106" Diag. w/ seating distance ~ 16.5' and 2.35 CinemaScope of a 113" Diag w/ seating distance ~17.5'... PJ about 11' from 16.9)

I'm sure you guys know why I needed to watch on the 16.9... (switching aspects)... But let me tell you guys... That movie is is worth all the hype that it has gotten...

For anyone that has not seen it, wait till you see the IMAX sequences... Demo material if I ever seen one...

... Plus this was the first movie that I watched with my new ButtKicker Wireless BK-300... all I can say is HOLYSH*T...

I highly HIGHLY recommend this movie...

I'm currently watching it using a Samsung BDP1500 and for some reason my receiver is not picking up the TrueHD audio. I haven't had this problem with any other BD movie. I have a Denon 4308ci receiver.

NM, found out I had to go through the popup menu and change it there. TrueHD was not put in position 1.

I want to get a blu-ray disc to show off my system. Is this the best one currently on the market for audio and video?

Hi All,

Started watching this film today I've noticed an annoying crackling distortion from some scene's, I don't believe it's clipping as I can hear the problem when I rewind the scene and play it at a much lower volume and it's happening mainly on dialogue so it's not in an action scene with much louder volume.

One scene for example is 32m.20s in where the dude says 'with you here now'

I'm playing via the PS3 with the Dolby TrueHD track selected.

Has anyone else noticed this problem?

I haven't noticed any sound issues with my PS3 passing PCM to a SR805 over HDMI with Dolby TrueHD selected.

I noticed a gold disc icon displayed in upper left corner of screen when the AR switches to what I think is referred to the IMAX AR. I haven't read anyone writing about this in thread but I find it distracting and would like to disable it if possible. BD player is a PS3. Thanks.
Just tested some more and it happens when I swap to the Dolby Digital track aswell so it has nothing to do with decoding the TrueHD track.

Another scene at 56m50s where he just finishes firing the gattling gun rounds and Alfred says 'I dont think you made it loud enough sir.' You can hear a clear crackling noise, is it only me with this issue?

You can go to the special feature menu to turn off the focus points. I watched the entire behind the scenes on Disc 1 - I enjoy behind the scene stuff as much as the movie itself!

Beware: If you have an ONKYO A/V Reciever, this disc has the same issue as the Iron Man disc: The disc triggers the L Night ( Late Night) audio feature, and lowers the power of the audio.

Just press the L Night button on your remote to turn this feature off, by turning it from AUTO to OFF.

You will then hear the full impact of the audio.

I have some issues with the PQ of the disc and I am hoping that someone will be able to advise.

I have watched the movie via PS3 connected to a Samsung LE40M87 1080p LCD via HDMI and there is extremely noticeable "flickering/shimmering" on buildings and the like during the IMAX prologue, the escape from Hong Kong where the skyhook plane leaves and you see the Lau building (this is by far the worst as it really stands out on the roof and the building opposite)

I have messed a bit with my settings and swapped out HDMI leads but it doesn't seem to have done any good.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I haven't got time in work to read through the whole thread, I just hope you can help.

Thanks in anticipation

Where else are you hearing this? Ive brought this up as well but only on a certain scene, Immediately following the explosion scene up until after the Joker is riding outside of the back seat of the squad car.

edit: I see you added the other time spot, but Ive only noticed it in the mentioned scene, and its very obvious to me, i think the time stamp was around 1hr 35min

Is this if the sound is bitstreamed to the AVR? I have the PS3 and 805 and I thought it was pretty good.

I see the same thing too!! I don't know if it's directly related to my LCD but that is something I defintely do not notice on other BD's that I have. Yes, there was really noticable shimmering on the Hong Kong building during the Lau escape. I also noticed it badly on the parade scene at the memorial for Commisioner Loeb.

Also, this film seems a tad too dark, robbing fine detail. I've seen in in the theater and I don't recall it looking this dark? I see the same darkness on the digital copy version I play on the computer.

Holy crap, I just thought that it was my sub shaking the wall that my TV was mounted on. Yes I definetely see the shimmering also during that sky hook escape.

.

I just checked that on my TX-NR906, and sure enough nite mode was set to Auto; a "feature" that surprised me. First the idiot decision to make DD the default mode on a BD movie and hiding the True Hd setting amongst the language alternatives. Then to learn that it was in auto pilot on nite mode

I thought the flick was very good and the clarity of the Imax shots may have taken 1080p to the limit. Nice seeing one camera destroyed and one banged hard, but I guess they had insurance.

The ending though was poorly and thinly contived; making the DA the hero did not require Batman to be the outcast, the outlaw, the hunted.

Still it makes a great show of the gear movie.

What I don't understand is why some people are noticing and commenting on the IMAX shimmering and some are not, Is it even possible for a transfer to look good on one type of display device but not another?

As for the darkness issue, I noticed it as well, the shot that smacked me in the face so to speak was when the Joker first walks in on the mob meeting, his back was solidly black, there was no detail at all and all my other BD's looked superb, however, my LCD has an XVYCC colour option which I turned off and the picture was much improved, at least in that you could make out shadow details.

(bear in mind I am using a Samsung 1080p LE40M87 LCD which is not particularly high end compared to what some of the guys here are using, it just intrigues me that it looks as bad on high end gear as it does on lower end stuff)

There also appears to be no real consistency in the transfer, for instance, the way the IMAX prologue looks is quite poor whereas the entire chase sequence during the Joker's attempt on Harvey Dent's life looks fantastic, the level of detail and clarity on the IMAX shot when Fox's chopper lands on Lau's helipad compared to a later shot of the city at night where all the lights flicker because the brightness doesn't stay locked.

I am so disappointed with this transfer and there really is no excuse, I recently bought the Blue Underground BD of The Final Countdown and it looks superb for a film of its age, this is, in my opinion, simply because they give a damn about the quality of their product whereas Warner's knew we'd all buy TDK no matter what and they know we'll buy it again when they re-release it with a mysteriously pristine new transfer.........................

I think this movie looks AMAZING, or at least the IMAX scenes. I can definately see an increase in detail during the IMAX scenes that make the rest of the movie pale in comparison! I'm not complaining, just wish the entire film had been shot for IMAX. Now that would be sweet! Maybe Batman 3???

Someone had to take the fall for the casualties (they couldn't simply be swept under the rug), and Harvey was the beacon of hope that Gotham needed. Batman took the fall because he knew he was not that hero. The exchange between Batman and Gordon says it perfectly:

Quote:

GORDON
Harvey's prosecution, everything he
fought for, everything Rachel died
for. Undone. Whatever chance Gotham
had of fixing itself... whatever
chance you gave us of fixing our
city... dies with Harvey's
reputation. We bet it all on him.
The Joker took the best of us and
tore him down. People will lose all
hope.

BATMAN
No. They won't.
(looks at Gordon)
They can never know what he did.

GORDON
(incredulous)
Five dead? Two of them cops? We
can't sweep that under-

BATMAN
No. But the Joker cannot win.

Batman crouches to Dent's body.

BATMAN
Gotham needs its true hero.

Gently, he turns Dent's head so the good side of his face is
up. Gordon looks from Dent's face to Batman. Understanding.

GORDON
You? You can't-

BATMAN
Yes, I can.

Batman stands. Faces Gordon.

BATMAN
You either die a hero or live long
enough to see yourself become the
villain. I can do those things
because I'm not a hero, like Dent. I
killed those people. That's what I
can be.

Conincedentally I also have a Samsung (LN46A650) and also see the flickering...just on the sky hook scene though. I'll have to look more carefully to see if I see other flickering on the other scenes. Maybe there is a correlation with Samsung TVs and TDK BD, who knows....

Hope this hasn't been asked or I'm just being stupid or something like that.

Is it only me or are all the options in BD-Live other than Home and Media Center grayed out and cannot be selected?

"Express Yourself" can't be selected at all which means I can't access the Live Community Screening feature nor the My Commentary feature.

I've made a Warner Brother BD-Live account and I confirmed that by signing into the website. But when I log into the BD-Live section on my PS3, I can only access Home and Media Center. I don't know if that's due to my currently living out of the US, but I used my home address in the US for my profile and my copy of Dark Knight is the American copy so I doubt it is.

Does anyone else have problems accessing and using the BD-Live functions on the Dark Knight blu-ray?

Worked fine for me... I was able to watch the entire screening event with Nolan. REALLY COOL!

Why couldn't they just pin the whole thing on The Joker, since it was all his doing anyway, directly or indirectly?

Good Question, but it will probably stop the all the people that were being vigilantes (like the scarecrow, in the beginning) if Batman is looked on with a bad light.

I'm using a PS3 and I have access to the BD-Live features. What is your blu-ray player and model? Does it have full BD-Live support?

Speaking on problems, anyone have problems getting the full commentaries? I can watch it but the video stream will stop and then jump forward on the playback. I figure it's probably more of my internet than the player/disc, but I'm wondering if I'm alone. I have highspeed internet through DSL and get about 2.5 mbps when I do speed test. Anyone else having skipping on commentary?

The Dark Knight is my first Blue Ray disc with my first Blue Ray player (Sony 350) and at some point it is in full screen then in some point it is in wide screen. Can anyone help me on this? Is it my configuration or what? Or that's normal. I have a Sony 46XBR4.
