Premier Acoustic PA-120 - Page 6

Updates: Mine's showing a pickup scan from Las Vegas yesterday at 9:42am and an updated delivery date of the 12th (my b-day is the 10th. ) I also emailed for another update. Here's my email train with him. He's been very quick to respond.

I called UPS and confirmed that they do have it in hand. I would expect most folks to see some kind of update very shortly.

Any thoughts on pairing this with a VK-12? I want something next to the sofa to feel the rumbles.

I feel all the rumbles with the PA-120. The VK12 is rated slightly higher than the PA120 but I bet to the naked ear there's not much difference since both are rated down to 24Hz and from reading on this forum, that gets you 96% of all signals...

Mine has been shipped as well and I ordered on the 29th. It was updated by yestarday morning. The delivery was rescheduled from tomorrow until Tuesday the 13th now. So far the tracking just has a Pickup scan at 9:42AM so I figure it has not even left the UPS facility it was orginally brought to. Usually it would say "Departure scan" when it heads out. It's up to UPS now

Won't work without a sub out or similar output. Once you get your 606 though you'd just use the sub out RCA jack.

So there is nothing i can do with the onkyo HT-R340? =( Boo

I got mine yesterday from AcousticSoundDesigns, no issues with shipping or delays. However mine wasn't the elusive black model.

In both subjective and semi-objective testing, it's good to about 24Hz +/-6db. I'm not set up to do anechoic testing, and I've got a room with several harmonic issues. The sine wave sweep on REW shows a small bump around 26Hz and then a steep falloff starting at 24. I also get a pretty good 6db "boom" at 30Hz, but I think that's my room. Also, from 20-26Hz there is some pretty noticable port noise. At 80db it will blow down plastic cups 6 feet away! I'm getting the best results in a corner with the port a couple inches flat from a wall to tame the air velocity out of there. That also took down the bump at 26 Hz.

In HT listening the only time I heard port noise was in Nemo when Darla taps the glass, but it was minor and even harder to notice considering it sounded like someone was exploding munitions inside my head. (as one of the fish in the tank said, "Too loud! Too loud for me!")

Music has been definitely opened up. I never knew the rolling thunder noise ran through the entire opening guitar refrain on Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" :-)

So far I'm *very* impressed for $229 w/shipping.

i am very interested in getting this sub. I have looked around it looks like it is the best one available for the money. The main concern that i have is that it will over power the speakers that i have now. I know that i can calibrate it in the system but i think that it may be too much (is that even possible? lol). My current setup is a pair of Polk RTi A3's and a CSi A4 center. I do not have surrounds at this time so it will be a 3.1 system. I plan on adding the surrounds later but will probably keep the polks as the fronts for a long time, unless i find a super great cheap deal on something better.

Should I buy a less powerful sub considering the system that i have?

thanks

Not at all. A subwoofer's purpose is to naturally blend with your floorstanders or bookshelfs. You can always adjust the volume and phase of the amp to help match your system. I just ordered mine in cherry!

My scheduled delivery date changed from Dec 11th to Jan 12th. Nice work guys..

Your story that your friend just recently ordered one and got it shipped has sealed the deal for me giving him a flaming negative feedback on ebay. This was terrible. This sub better be worth all the trouble.

BTW, I realized that my neighbor bought a Cherry sub and maybe those aren't backordered

That would make more sense since the cherry has always been in stock through all of this.

I don't think Hksvr4 meant that he was Mike Embers. If he is, then his previous posts one page back make absolutely no sense whatsoever..

I too wondered the same thing about the weight myself though. That's a big difference from advertised and actual if that 41 lbs. is accurate.

The box being shipped to me is 41 lbs. Which means that the actual weight is 36-37 lbs.

Just to verify:

Shipped/Billed On: 01/08/2009
Number of Packages 1
UPS Service: GROUND
Weight: 41.0 LBS
Reference Number 2: MODEL PA-120 chr

Not that the weight matters, but it makes it seem heavier and bulkier than it really is.

Hey Nightware,

Just type "Hi Low Adapter" on ebay. These things are cheap and will get you by until you buy a new reciever. It simply converts the speaker outs on your reciever to RCA's - then just plug in the sub.

We use to use these all the time back in the car audio days!

Creemail,
My PA-120 came in at 67lbs (I believe it was). Anyway, somewhere in the 60lb range. It was heavy. My guess is that the 41lbs is a misprint (or someone's trying to save on shipping).

By the way, I watched "Annie" with my kids last night... LOL!!! This sub picks up bass I never new existed with my old Sony.

Band of Brothers on Blu-ray... Amazing.

I couldn't be happier...

Hi guys, my first post! I have learned alot and still have a long way to go with all of this HT stuff. Anyway, just to add, I also "won" a PA 120 yesterday, called and gave my CC. He told me it would ship today and I did get a UPS notification this morning. Funny thing is mine also said 41 lbs and I am confused as it stated 60 in the ebay auction.

Could it be a typo? Hope we are not getting a different model as that would not be good. Crossing my fingers.

Welcome and congrats on the order! I would imagine we are all getting the right sub, just a little misinformation on the package weight on the UPS site.

Now whether anybody actually gets one of these shipped to their door is a whole nother story... Feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, but has anybody's tracking moved since their package went to "Pickup" status on UPS at 9:42am 1/6? It's been over 48 hours since then and I would've expected to see a departure scan or an update to "In Transit" by now. This has just been excruciating getting this damn thing delivered, so it figures I'll probably have UPS issues now. Hopefully the tracking's just slow to update.

I don't know what time their latest pick-ups are. Well, my shipping confirmation is still the since this morning EST. It's now 4pm and 1pm PST, assuming it's coming from Vegas. By the end of the business PST before calling them. If it ships day after the order, it should have been on the truck already.

First off all I apologize for interrupting the conversation here. I'm new to the AVS forum, I've joined for specific reason. Which is gather some more information about PA-120, KV-12 and H100 subwoofers.

Let me describe my system:

Amp: Marantz SR4001
DVD: Denon DVD-2910
Front speakers: Polk Audio Monitor 50
Center speaker: Polk Audio CS1
Surround speakers: Polk Audio Monitor 50
Back surround speakers: Polk Audio Monitor 30

I would like to add one or two subwoofers, within the price range of 500$. The system is used for 60% movies / 35% XBOX360 / 5% music. My expectations from the subwoofer are as follows:

- reasonably priced around 300$ea
- be able to shake some furniture in the room
- be able to keep-up with the content (dynamic)
- loud when needed
- tight and punch, buy not boomy and sloppy like for example: yamaha YST-sw215 / 315 which is too boomy.

Could someone please post more pictures of the system and subwoofer (PA-120)?

Mine still says the same damn thing- it's pretty irritating!

That doesn't make any sense.
