300GB Raptor on the HTPC for quick rebuilds and images (always trying the latest). Media server for all of my content.

My VMC "clients" have a 160GB laptop HD.
My VMC "server" has 6TB of storage.
Media server at 10TB and HTPC at 74GB.

HTPC1 = 160GB
HTPC2 = 250GB

I try to keep a minimum on my HTPCs. My unRAID server holds all of my media.

HTPC 200 GB
Server 14TB
my htpc has
1 500gig
1 750gig
my next drive will be 1tb
My HTPC has a:

80gig os drive
500gig drive for recorded tv

The 500 gig drive gets dumped nightly to my unRAID server.

The current capacity of my unRAID server is in my sig as it keeps growing.

6 HTPC's (4 dedicated and 2 multipurpose) with 500GB each = 3TB
3 files severs with 10TB each = 30TB
1 external e-sata HDD enclosure with five 1TB = 5TB
1 gaming system total HDDs = 1TB
1 Top Deck test bench with 500GB
a bunch of USB externals with old IDE 320-500GB HDDs
post #11 of 28
I've got an HTPC with 3TB, a 1TB NAS drive and an office computer with 2TB of storage and another with 1TB.

I'm going to add 2 more TBs to the HTPC later this year, then start building a file server for the extra space I'll need.

I think mine's only got 40GB.

...and the servers have about 3000GB. You've got what, 80TB in your servers?
Currently 3TB on HTPC and 1.5TB on unRAID server. Working to migrate the HTPC to 500GB and the unRAID server to 4TB - and also possibly build a second HTPC also with 500GB.

Movies and Music live on the unRAID server - recorded TV and the OS on the HTPC system drive.

http://www.ncixus.com/products/27856...dia%20Systems/

The enclosure comes with a PCI-E 1x card that has two e-sata ports. The system can be complicated to set up if there are other sata controllers being used (both mobo sata or sata discrete controllers). Built in fans are noisy. But bottom line is that it does work.

shhh.... I don't want the neighbours asking for access.....

500MB + 1TB in VMC. Store photos, home videos, and recorded TV. Do not store DVDs on the HDD.
i personally had a 3.5TB server in my basement.. i just VNC in whenever i need to access it..

for your HTPC, 500gigs should be more then enough. every once in a while you can dump the data to a secondary storage computer.
i run my server off a 2.2ghz sempron or soemthing.. a pos $300 computer 3 years ago i bought preassembled.. added in some sata cards, couple TB hdds and a handful 500gig drives setup raid5.. gigabit ethernet streams bluray and 1080p x264 all day long..

if you dont have a server to use or anything, id suggest atleast a TB.. their decently priced now so theres no sense in buying 500gig unless u know for sure your not gonna use it.

250G IDE right now. I'm trying to get away from that drive and switch to a 500G SATA2 I bought cheap.

I've been experimenting with Vista but haven't got the OS and programs to work on it yet so still booting the 250G with XP MCE.

I like having some space on the HTPC because I use that space for temporary media storage until I sort and transfer the media to the server.

Dual 750GB drives. The boot drive contains pictures and videos (a few DVDs, downloads, and VMC DVR recordings). The second drive contains music - lossless and lossy versions.

Bah, humbug, on HTPC's, Sage HDExtenders all the way :-)

The server is currently at 3TB, but that'll be up to 7TB as soon as I figure out why my damn RAID card isn't working. I've got 5 1TB drives just sitting there...

Wow and I thought I had a lot of storage.....

Have 5 x 500GB RAID5 right now in my 12 bay enclosure, but hopefully when 1TB or 1.5TB drop below $100 I can grab 5 of those to add a few more TB to my storage.

Not to mention price but I suggest you take a look at some Black Friday deals. You might find what your looking for

300GB on-board and 1.2 TB in a Drobo (version2).

2TB

I only run one PC to watch a movie. Not a PC and a server, especially a server that's on 24/7. Waste of power.

True, but that's a major reason why I use SageTV HD-Extenders. They draw ~8W of power. I need a server on 24x7 anyhow for recording TV & Home Automation, but no need to turn a 2nd PC on to watch the movie.

Right now I have 5 Terabyte drives - only a few gigs left so I need to buy a couple of 1.5 Terabyte drives soon.

I just use my regular PC to playback movies. I open up multiple user sessions in Vista, so I always have the HTPC front-end open on my HDTV.. while at the same time being able to do normal PC stuff on my computer monitor without any interference.

Right now having 11TB and starting Jan, i am building 30TB capacity WHS Storage Server
