LG BH200 $75 BD-Live compensation (rebate) info here - Page 6

Sweet!! All three $75 checks were in my mailbox today. Twelve days after calling and then faxing the receipts.

Although I still would have rather had an upgrade to profile 2.0

Glad to hear they all showed up. Now you can take your woman out to dinner!

Actually I'll be putting part of it towards one of her Birthday presents. A little 10.2 inch LCD TV for her kitchen to replace her old 7 inch tube one since that doesn't have a digital tuner.

i got my check in today.

Still waiting on my check requested on 12/24 and evidently "processed" on 1/2/09. I called again a few days ago, and they told me it could take up to 21 business days. They told me when I requested the rebate that I would not need to fax the receipt, but maybe I should do it anyway just in case somehow that's the delay... kinda frustrating, because my first rebate came lightning fast.

Does anyone have the correct/revised fax number? The one in the OP no longer works.

Got my 2 rebate checks 2 days ago. So, Jan. 6 to Jan. 22, 16 days, not too shabby. They misspelled my first name badly but I'm sure the checks will clear.

Haven't had time to check the Samsung with BD-Live, I assume it works, that feature wasn't a huge deal to me.

Only slight issue is, one of them isn't working any more. The display shows "READING" forever and the HD DVD log is illuminated faintly. I've turned it off and on a couple times, plugged it in and out a couple times. It won't respond to any buttons. My next technical solution is to whack it on the side.

So actually I'm starting to prefer the Samsung ...
Update ... I whacked it on the side and now it's working. A technical triumph. I'm thinking of opening my own DVD player repair shop, what do you guys think?

Actually, I held down the "eject" button while turning it on. So it works now. Still, not totally a comfortable feeling about reliability.

If it happened on one disk, maybe it's a problematic disk. If it's happening on all of them, time for a repair. I bought 4 200s over the last 5-6 months and they've been very reliable...minus some typical 200 dropout quirks. I believe the 200s are of a very good build quality.

Btw, assuming your first name is Mike or a derivative of Mike, how on earth can anyone misspell it?

This is the first time it's happened. Maybe the kids left it on Pause all night or something. Hopefully it won't happen again.

My first name is Mike and they spelled it "GLA" ... same on both checks. No clue where that came from.

I bought my unit at BB in May '08 (for $500), and I only found out about this when researching the going rate on eBay. A listing said "No BD-Live" and I (like a idiot) thought what an idiot, it has this firmware upgradable... THANK YOU, OP... I was PISSED but at least I can be compensated, though I believe it should be for TWICE the amount considering what I paid!

Are they going to do the same for the PC Drive (GGW H20L) or is that able to use the software player for that?

Thanks again OP, and thanks for the posters that keep us updated...

I don't know about this, but there is a petition to get them to do the firmware update...
BH 200 Petition for BD Live 2.0

Not to mention the fact that you can't watch HD DVD version of Clerks 2, cause it won't get past the main menu!
They already said they are not going to update the player to profile 2.0. The $75 compensation is because they aren't upgrading it. Although I would gladly give them back the $225 they gave me if they would make the players profile 2.0 compliant.

Just called for the third time and think I finally made some progress. I was switched to the BD-Live Dept., where my info was confirmed. I then sent my info to the rep I spoke with (pics of receipt) via email. She mentioned they would NOT be adding the BD-Live function to the BH200 (hence the reason for the refund). I should get a confirmation email back within a few hours.

Time for the hackers to get busy. Actually, I wouldn't hack mine if possible, as I only have a single unit. Now, if I had two or three....

I just got my rebate check from LG today. I called the phone number, they requested a copy of the receipt from BB, this happened on the 19th the check arrived on the 27th. Considering the I bought the player for 119.99, it's a hell of a deal.

quick question,
I saw a open box unit at CC today for 269.99 everything is with it in a bag. Is that a good deal? I know they are going out of business maybe I should wait to see it its still around in a couple of weeks. (the player not CC )

Depends on how bad you want it and if any more are available elsewhere in your area. But typically, no, it's not a good deal, especially with CC going out of business. I went there this weekend and wasn't impressed with their going-out-of-business pricing; bah....

I'd pass on it because of the "All Sales Are Final" terms associated with the liquidation sale. They will not accept a return or exchange under any conditions.

If it doesn't work, or if it dies on you after a day, you'd have to try for warranty coverage through LG.
I wouldn't buy unless I could get it demo'd before purchasing. That way you'd know real quick if it worked or not. And that would depend on how much they're wanting to get rid of it. I think the price is high, but the rebate'll take some of the sting away.

While it isn't a great deal, it isn't a terrible one either with the $75 rebate. If you don't already have another BH200, approx $200 for this player is decent, as most of these units still get around $300 on Ebay. Also, if the unique capabilities of this player are something you need/want, not a bad deal. I know these CC liquidators have a rep for not negotiating, but no harm in trying....tell them you'll take the player for $225 and go from there.

I'm pretty certain that if there's an issue with the player, LG would take care of it under standard warranty of 1 yr labor, 90 days parts. However, I agree with others, power up the unit and play some disks at the store before you buy it. At least that eliminates a DOA dud.

As CC goes deeper into liquidation and the prices come down some more, someone may well grab it ahead of you. So, either go for it, or gamble on waiting another week or so, and try to get maybe another 10-20% off??? It's your call!

Compared to the one I saw at my local CC today, the one you found is a steal. An open box, looking mighty scuffed (and I'm not even sure it had the remote) and marked down to $319! I think I know now why CC is going out of business.

The good news? They had their blu disks marked down 20%...which means "Live Free or Die Hard" was $28 out the door! (List price $34.99!)

And no, I didn't buy it.
the prices you see today have more to do with the liquidators than they have to do with Circuit City proper.
Thanks for all the info, sorry I put this in the wrong thread. I have a ps3 and a xbox 360 so I have taken the blu and red pill. My wife would like something that plays hi def I thought this would be a great compromise, its not a game machine and it plays both formats and it looks like a nice av piece. I guess ill wait a while. if its still there in a couple of weeks when the % off goes up, ill see. She already has an escient fireball and changer. she can wait awhile.
