Ghost Whisperer - on CBS HD & ION HD

Note: The only other threads on Ghost Whisperer I could find had to do with Nikki Cox's lips and didn't seem approprate as a title given the semi-reboot of the show.

Not a series that gets a lot of attention, but I thought I'd give a nod to what they are doing with the relationship between Melinda and Jim.

It has been a good way to breathe some new life into the series.

I thought it was a strange device to use. Why kill off Jim if you are simply going to bring him back in someone else's body without his memories? It did remind me a bit of Quantum Leap, particularly when you see Jim in the mirror, you actually see the actor who plays Sam.

....at the very least, it gives the actor who plays Jim a chance to actually have some lines to say beyond the normal, "yes, Melinda I understand...you need to go to some creepy farmhouse in the middle of the night to talk to some angry ghost who has been throwing things at you for the last couple of days".

Now that Jim is in another mans body they could change actors. He only looks like Jim to Melinda?

Actually, apparently he only looks like Jim to us.

To the rest of the world, this makes Melinda look like a cougar. Sam is supposed to be an early 20's or younger type, Melinda is probably well into her thirties by now.
In real life Sam is 5 years older than Melinda. Why is it any different in fantasy land?

Well, it's an interesting concept. I'm curious how it will play out. Now I understand all the CBS promo's about love surviving death. I hope they don't get rid of the actor that played Jim all these years, just make him more interesting and quirky. As posted above he was waaaayyy too understanding.

I was thinking that it was a way for them to transition to a different actor, but I'm not sure.

The show has always been 'somewhat' interesting, and I am curious where it goes with this.

this thread needs pics

I think they will keep 'Jim' and 'Sam' will fade out, just like the 'New George' on Dead Like Me.

^ Good comparison.

They might have a shot of "new Jim" once in a while, but I doubt that actor is going to want to hang around long just for a few seconds of screen time every few weeks.

Weird audio problem this past week on this show for us. There was music but no dialogue on the HD feed. Then the station switched to the SD feed and their was dialogue. Then they switched back to HD and no dialogue for a while, then they got it fixed (but we had to turn on closed captioning for about 15 minutes). I don't know if this was only Detroit area or not (this is via DirectTV).

(My wife thinks she got a 'reduction' I said it was probably just a 'minimizing bra' or sports bra (the beginning jogging scene). Maybe we need to keep some pics here to study the 'issue' further)

Didn't notice any problems here in Jacksonville via DirecTV. Most likely a local issue.

As for your other concern, perhaps photos would be the way to keep abreast of the situation.

They are showing below the waist shots now of JLH-Previous seasons they always focused above the waist.
Maybe she recently had some liposuction done down there.
Yes; she's definitely slimmed down overall, but I especially notice it from the waist down. In the first season, we (wife, daughter and I all watch) thought maybe she was preggers. She usually wore something billowy to cover the nether regions.

Anyway, she looks even more gorgeous now!

I haven't seen this show. I know JLH has certain charms, but is the show any good?

Well, that's a matter of some debate. Since it is one of the few shows my wife will actually watch with me, we've seen it from the beginning.

The typical formula is:

1. Unexplained things start happening.
2. Ghost appears, often angry or scary looking
3. Melinda wants to help him/her/it (sometimes it is a dog) cross "into the light"
4. Ghost doesn't want any part of it due to [anger/unfinished business/revenge]
5. Melinda tries to explain to others she can see ghosts and they [accept it/think she is crazy]
6. Her formerly alive [now technically dead, but whose spirit is living inside another person's body because the other person has already crossed "into the light" so it's really OK that dead Jim's ghost is using the body of its former occupant] husband Jim is extremely understanding [or has been up to this point since the "new" Jim is living in Melinda's garage, but has amnesia and doesn't remember that he's married to her...which technically he isn't anymore].
7. Everyone eventually believes that Melinda can see ghosts and the unfinished business is taken care of. Melinda cries.
8. Somehow the ghost has taken a bath, or otherwise cleaned up and doesn't look scary or angry anymore. He/she/it then goes "into the light" [unless some scary dude shows up and recruits him/her/it into the band of rogue spirits who want to stay out of the light for some unknown reason].
9. All is then well. Until the next episode when it all happens again.

Putting aside Ms. Hewitt's charms, it's purely a "chick show". Anything about ghosts usually is.

If you're a guy who liked "Somewhere in Time", or "Ghost", then you may like it.

Spot on with that analogy!

Funny, mine is the exact opposite on this show. She will watch any (ALL) of the procedurals (I watch a small subset), Fringe, but won't watch "The Boobie-Whisperer", Sci-Fi, or any sit-com - I'm on my own. The girls, however, usually watched them with me...

I think Bones and Fringe are her [sit-com]s within her almost exclusively procedural [TV diet]...

"Procedurals"? Is that those shows with the difficult cases where everything just basically falls into place and solves itself within an hours time, while the actors just stand around hamming it up?
Actually, I think sometimes the actors sort of get in the way of the proceduramagic... they create unnecessary drag to the display of 3,000,000,000x zooms, instant DNA, gene-mapping, toxicology reports, etc.
