LCD vs Plasma for HTPC

The Vizio VS420LF that I just bought has been having some issues losing video, etc. I think it's just a bad egg and I'm going to bring it back. I was thinking about getting my money back though and buying a plasma for the better motion quality. I know there are some 42" Plasma TVs with 1080p for around $800-$900 which is a only a few hundred more then I paid for the Vizio.

Will video quality suffer on a plasma? I'm running my HTPC over RGB right now and the LCD looks awesome. It is 1:1 pixel and everything is really clear and easy to read. I use the HTPC for more than just blu-ray, I even check my email on this thing. I'd love to be able to keep that. I'm using the LCD as a giant PC monitor if that makes sense. Entertainment + common PC stuff. I also play World of Warcraft on it which is the only game I really play. WoW looks awesome and I can read all the chat text on the LCD which I really like. I think with plasma the pixels are not the correct shape or something?

edit: wait I think I looked at an add wrong, I don't think there is a 1080p plasma for less than $1200, there are plenty of 720p's though.

there are a lot of these out there - you might also cruise on over to the LCD and Plasma forums for some other input-

BTW-it's not just the technology, it can also be the brand/model that you selected-

Bottom line though is that plasma is not particularly well-suited for regular pc stuff

yeah, that's what I thought, LCD is the way to go. the more research I have been doing over the last few days though I am beginning to think I should have purchased a stand alone player. Playing WoW at 42" is awesome, but getting in a comfortable position is not. Plus my wife is not amused with all the tweaking that I do whenever we play something. Switching resolutions between 1080 and 720 depending on content, messing with sound. things just don't match correctly.

I'll try some more tweaking but I think I'm going to get my money back on the blu-ray I got for the PC and put it towards a stand alone.

Shouldn't be doing that - set up your PC to output the native resolution of your panel and leave it alone.
I do agree however, that in many cases (and especially for the current pricing) a standalone is the way to go.

content in 720p looks better if I switch the res. I'm running over RGB since that looks nice because its a 1:1 match. HDMI looks washed out and text isn't as clear. I'm taking back the blu-ray player for the PC and getting a Sony BDP-S350 this afternoon though. I'll leave the PC to play downloaded content, stream TV shows, etc. I'll still save money by not getting HD cable lol. most TV shows are online for free now and u can easily "acquire" them in 720p in less than 30 minutes which makes an HTPC a great addition to any home theater. But the put disk in a press play is seriously lacking. I knew it would, but didn't know it was going to be this rough. Plus upconverting is a pia without more tweaking.

maybe I'm talking out of my ass, idk but right now I just want to get something that works. if it were just me I would probably deal with it but my wife just wants to watch Hello Dolly unconverted and I have to spend 10 minutes setting everything up before she can. Even then it doesn't look like I think it should.
