Hi all! This is a repost (with some mods) from the LCD forum. I was redirected here for better input. I'm new to the forums and searched for my answers but didn't turn up any meaningful results.
I'm upgrading my home theater piece by piece. First is a new LCD so I can move into the HD world. I'm currently running on a standard definition TV using a DVI to component conversion cable for my HTPC.
I am considering the Samsung LNxxA550 or possibly the LN46A650. I will be connecting straight to the LCD for the video signal because my receiver does not have DVI or HDMI connections. (It's the next thing on the list to upgrade.) Also, my video card only has d-sub and DVI connections. Audio out of the PC will hook into the receiver via digital coaxial.
I want to be able to send a true digital 1080p signal to the LCD, but the LCD only has a D-sub connector.
1. Will I be able to set my resolution to 1920x1080 and still be a true digital signal if I hook into the LCD's d-sub connector?
2. If not, what about a DVI to HDMI conversion cable? Will that be a true digital signal? Will it be 1920x1080?
3. Is the samsung a good choice or is there a better choice for my setup around the same price range? (I don't need the built-in tuner of course.)
Thank you all so much for your help. I appreciate it greatly!
