Confused about HDMI cables - which to buy?

I just bought a 52" LCD HDTV from Samsung at Best Buy. It's the 650 series 1080p, 120hz kind. The sales rep sold me two Monster HDMI ultra 600 4' cables. I looked at the box and it is only a 60 hz cable. Shouldn't I be running 120hz refresh rate cables? Also, these Monster cables are expensive! Are you using Monsters or generic stuff from Monoprice, Blue Jeans or Tartan?

Thanks!

I believe the 120hz is within the TV itself and has nothing to do with the cables. As far as using Monster Cables, I would never spend that kind of money on those. I would take them back and buy the cheapest ones they have. Or if you can wait, order them online from monoprice

BTW, I bought the same TV last weekend - congrats on a great purchase, you're gonna love it

order some from monoprice and when they get there, return the overpriced overhyped monster cables to the store.

Ya, monoprice has them for a few bucks. You don't need the $80 cable. I just got my new HD cable box and they gave me a nice HDMI cable with it.

No offense my friend, but your wallet just got owned by clever marketing techniques. Return that overpriced, over-marketed stuff to the store at once and head on over to Monoprice.com. I have purchased 3 HDMI cables thus far (1.3a, CAT-2 certified) and even after shipping didn't pay more than 20 dollars.

Depending on what you are looking for, you can pay even less than that.

I bought 3 cables at a local discount electronics store and they were $15 each, and they were a brand name,Belkin, and they work perfectly, plus they were 6 foot cables and looked and felt very well built.

I use 'generic' cables from Amazon.com. It cost me about $0.50 each, given AVS rules all I can say is if you search on it, it has hundreds of reviewers commenting on it.

HDMI cables are like USB cables, they are all digital and its specs are very low tech. The only time the insulation matters is when the cable is longer than 3 or 6 feet, I forget, but anything less than that is not much more that telephone wire with more wires.

I ordered 2 6' HDMI cables yesterday from Blue Jeans Cable and they were less than $18 each. These were the best cable they offerred. Got an email a few hours later saying they were shipped Priority Mail. I order all of my cables from them and think they are great. Quality is excellent and the price is right. www.bluejeanscable.com

How do I know which HDMI cables are comparable to Monsters? Are they all the same? What's with 1.2 or 1.3a spec? What about flat type cables? Or, what's with CL-2? Is this stuff important?

Sorry about the newbie questions.

Never mind, guys. I found the answers to my questions on the Monoprice website. Thanks fellas/gals for saving me money!

CL-2 rating is for if you want to conceal the cable in wall, ie, behind the drywall.

I just got my HDMI cables from monoprice. Very good quality, and under $20 for 3 cables, shipped. Amazing.

Cables less than 6' in length made to 1.3 spec will work even to revision 1.3c, Category 2.

CL-2 is a fire rating used if the cables are to be embedded in walls.

Flat or round cables don't matter so long as insulation is achieved.

I used a 30' HDMI from bluejeanscables with my RS-1. No problems at 1080p/60, which is the worst-case test. It cost less than the 6' snake-oil cable from the big-box retail outlets.
