Two Dish 8vsb modulators left @ $649

Dish Depot sent an email saying that they had 8 modulators for sale. There were two left when I checked at noon EST.

I guess Dish Depot has joined the list of companies that believe in charging whatever the market will bear. I dont know why they just didnt put all of them on ebay instead of just one. Makes me sick after they cancelled everyones orders the last time saying that they would never be getting any more modulators. I guess what they meant was they would be selling any more for $299.

Free market. Why should they sell for less than they're worth? More power to them.

That what I paid for mine! I considered it a bargain at the price after seeing what sometimes they go for. I use it to distribute SAT HD all over my house I just put a Hi Pix in my every day PC that will be my recording workstation. Now the SAT receiver can be at the other end of the house and it makes no difference. It a cool little box a little funky to operate but works well.

At least your buying from a reputable source. I always feel like I'm playing Russian Roulette when buyiing from a stranger on E-bay; and if it turns out to be defective, your at the mercy of the seller to compensate you.

My guess is that Dish Depot was told by Echostar they could not get any more HD Modulators, and that was what they told everyone.

It's quite possible they came across a few from another source, and knowing their rarity, bought them and are now offering them at what the market will bear. I don't see anything wrong with this. Dish Depot has a very good reputation for the way they do business.

I doubt if anyone on this forum knows what Dish Depot had to pay for them. So why argue with the price?

I bought my modulator from Dish Depot in October of 1999 and I think I got my money's worth. Maybe others will feel the same about the $649 price.

Hmmm... The $149 unit appears to be a tuner, not a modulator. It adds OTA to the 6000 receiver...

I didn't see any modulators mentioned on the site.

Cheers!

I think the list price of the 5000 HD Modulator was $299.

I asked Mark at dishdepot about these modulators a few days ago when I called to order a refurb DiSH 5000 from him. He was very apologetic about the price, but said his cost for the modulators was a _lot_ higher than standard pricing.

When I got my Echostar 6000 and 8-VSB Module in the fall of 2000, I put my Echostar 5000 receiver and HDTV Modulator in my basement to collect dust with my Mitsubishi HD-100 HDTV receiver.

Maybe I should consider selling them all on e-bay. It appears there is a market for them.
