Just curious if anyone else has noticed both of these blu rays having very poor PQ ? I have a samsung 750 LCD 52" TV and have watched hellboy 2, kungfu panda and wall e with no problems and have looked great however fred claus and get smart were really grainy at parts along with sparkling scenes as well not throughout the whole movie but a large majority. Is it because I have my samsung 2550 player set to 24 fps ? any other ideas or anyone else notice this ?
thanks in advance.

before anybody can comment whether a release is good or bad, the first thing they have to ask themselves is whether their display have been ISF calibrated recently. If the answer is yes then for sure you know whether a trasnfer is good or bad.

Get Smart may not have the best transfer out there, but it's still pretty good. Fred Claus I haven't seen so I can't comment.

So why are some movies seems to be okay? Movies with a lot of primary colours (especially animation) tend to hide the imperfections of non-calibrated (or not properly calibrated) displays.

they are both warner brother releases. They were released on BD-25 disc and the bitrate is very low compared to the other titles that you listed.

Warner is the worst of all the major studios. Low bitrate HD with no HD audio.

Clearly you haven't seen neither of these movies. The "bad" ness of the "transfer" is in the colour pallette being used. No compression artifact was seen during the course of the movie.

OK so I figured out what it was... The samsung 2550 blu ray player was set on high for sharpness when I turned it off it was like watching a completely different movie. Compeletely clear of all grain and sparkling picture was nice and clear throughout the whole movie. Strange.. you would have thought it would have made it more clear/shar however not the case...

sharpness control adds nothing but distortion to the picture. You can not add something out of nothing. Sharpness control should be banned altogether.

No dude you got it all wrong. If sharpness should be added by anyone it should be the end user.

See if there was a setting on TVs that could do this some studios would never have to use edge enhancement....oh wait, NVM.

Damn you's Warner, damn you's.

I didn't notice anything out of place watching Get Smart on a 101" screen this weekend. I can be picky about PQ in general.

It had nothing to do with the blu ray after I figured out it had to do with the seting on my blu ray player. After changing the sharpness function in the HDMI section to off the movies were completely clear.
