W4100 for $2250 OR XBR6 for $2600?

We are looking for an upper-level 52" LCD, and we've settled on 2 TVs:

1) the WL140 (basically the W4100 + the internet video link)

AND

2) the XBR6 for

I know the general difference in specs between the XBR6 and the W-series, but I honestly don't know how much of a difference 10-bit, Deep Color, etc makes.

What am I really gaining over the W if I go for the XBR6? Is the quality difference really worth the price?

I was faced with the same choice and went with the XBR6. I think it was worth the small price. When I bought the W the price difference was much greater but a few days later the price came down to make it a no brainer for me to go to the XBR6. The big differences over the W are, 10-bit display, higher contrast screen, x.v color, subwoofer. There is a great comparison chart on sonystyle.com

Have you made your decision? I will be picking between these two in the next two weeks. I loved the W4100 when I had it in my house, but I had to return it for heavy clouding. The only thing keeping me hesitant with the XBR6 is the slight pinkish tint it when you're viewing it off-center. Aside from that, it seems identical in PQ. Sharp, great tone when viewing straight on.

Look the only difference between the Z series and the XBR6 is subwoofer, styling and $500.

Better look there.

There is no 52" Z series.

i'm faced with the same situation. the W series seems like a great tv for the price but i am so happy with my 46XBR2 that i am leaning on getting the XBR6.

The 10-bit display is what is really leaning me towards the XBR series.

welp, just got back from bestbuy with the XBR6!

i know we aren't allowed to discuss price... but Best Buy actually had a sale (ending today) with both TVs listed at the same exact price... aka it was a no-brainer.

it's only been a couple hours, but i'm extremely happy with my purchase. i can definitely see the difference the 10-bit makes.

CBS has poor HD, but the NE/Pitt game right now still looks pretty awesome. i haven't owned a 120Hz TV before, so this looks amazing.

edit: and i don't see any pinkish tint at all when viewing off-center.
and Standard definition looks extremely blurry, if it matters to anybody.

Yeah I saw the same deal today at BB. They simply raised the price of the W by the same amount they lowered the XBR6. The deal for the XBR is still decent for a local store. No need to wait for shipping or suffer the risk of receiving a defective set and having to deal with some random online dealer's return policy.

That's good. Unfortunatly, I didn't see the same thing at BB, CC, or HHGregg. Compared to the W, to me, whites looked pinkish. It could be that factory torch mode settings make it look that way, at least I hope so. What mode do you have it on? This is my last issue before I plunk $2.5K

Yeah. That's a given. For better SD it would have to be a Bravia with DRC. I'm not too worried about that.

edit: Oh, on congrats on your TV!
