Best place to order sat C kit?

Hello

I'm moving and can only have one dish. I took advantage of DirecTv's moving program. The dish they sent is a Channel Master oval dish with room for a third LNB.

Can anyone recommend a place to order the Sat C kit (part number 6110) online?

Thanks,

David

I copied the following off http://www.geocities.com/dbs_tech/mdsapp/D2.htm#2. Good luck.

The 110 position is curently used only for local channels in Raleigh-Durham, NC and Greenville, SC. If you do not live in one of these DMAs (designated market area), you don't need the Sat C kit! It is very unlikely that the 110 position will ever be used for anything but locals. Dealers in these areas can supply you with a Sat C kit. The Channel Master part number for the kit is 6110, price is typically $50. If your usual dealer is unable to help, try one of these sources: (note: I have not verified this info!)

Tom Rhyne's info is way out of date. 110 is currently vacant of all programming, its locals having been moved to 101 on DTV 4S. 110 is rumored, with very gooed reason to be the home of HD programming soon ( check direct's web site and read between the lines ). below is a link for the kit at a decent price.

DTC mac,

Sorry to post out-of-date info. Thanks for correcting it! The website I got the info from must be way out of date also.

DTC mac,

I read on another post that you cannot add a third dish for 110 (assuming you have two separate round dishes for 101 & 119 as I do), but you have to go to an eliptical with three LNBs. It appears to me that if you can add a third LNB to an eliptical dish, you could add a third dish and combine it with the other two. Am I off base or is the other post correct?

Thanks,
Tom

I ordered mine from http://store.yahoo.com/sepharus-store/sat-ckit.html

I have NO use for it at the moment but figured that if D* DOES move HD over to 110 there will be a run on these things. 36 bucks id pretty cheap insurance against losing HDNET.

Thank you all for the replies.

Does anyone know if the Terk sat C kit is compatible with the channel master dish?

If DirecTv does put their HD programming on the 110, it seems that some (many? most?) people wouldn't need 3 LNB's unless there's something else (Dish, Para Todos) on 119 of interest... It does seem silly to keep HDNet and HD-HBO on the 110 if "the rest" of the programming is on another sat...

I'd be very excited for the HD stuff to move to the 110, since
the chances of my ever getting a clear shot of the 119 are pretty slim...

Three dishes is no problem to set up at all. The 110 and 119 dishes are combined by the hybrid included in the Sat C kit, the combined 110/119 are then fed to the 22KHz multiswitch just as in an oval dish set up. The only change using thee dishes is that you will need longer cables than are supplied with the Sat C kit.

Web based photos of the TERK Sat C kit look Identical to my Channel master unit, I'd wager CM is OEM for TERK.

HD makes sense at 110 because those three transponders have nothing on them now and the FCC will revoke Direct's licences if they dont use them. Second 119 is in line to get local channels from 10 additional markets leaving too little bandwidith on those 11 transponders, even with DTV 7S, for HD to fit there.

I will let you know on the TERK vs ChannelMaster issue on Monday. That's when mine is scheduled to arrive.

If it all looks good I'll be installing it on one of the Panasonic branded eliptical dishes.

Anybody in the 10 DMAs that will be served by 119 that also wants HD will need all three.

Hopefully Fresno will be one of those DMAs.

In addition to The comimg 10 DMAs of loacls and Para Todos 119 carries NASA TV, BYU TV (rel), Starnet (edu), Claravision (rel), ILN (rel),Ch J (japaneese), HBOlatino and additional music choice channels (mostly latin music)

I received mine. It's a Terk. Designed and labled for DirecTV ParaTodos and Elliptical SAT C. I couldn't find the CM lable anywhere, but think it might be hidden inside.

I work in manufacturing. There is a whole lotta private labling for OEMs therefore I feel strongly this is manufactured by CM.

Clear concise installation and good parts. Just buy it and don't think too much into the Terk vs. CM name.

There was a thread somewhere I think in the programming section that eluded that DirectTv would send a free sat c kit to anyone with HD programming. The third HD channel would possibly be on 110. This is not confirmed.

Free? Not likely. But if they do, they'd charge premium for the HD channels.

All this speculation isn't getting anywhere, so I called DIRECTV today to ask about any plans to switch HD to 110. They said there are no plans that they have been been told, but if there were, notice would be sent to all affected customers before such a move would be made. Asked if that would involve sending the SATC kits free to those affected, he couldn't say.

So we really don't know any more than we did before, except nothing will change overnight where we suddenly lose HDNET. Let's wait for some firm word and then push for free kits if they don't immediately offer them (which they should).

Expect any such move to coincide with the new locals coming to 119. The time frame there I have heard is april-june.

I saw an ad in my local paper this morning for free installation of High-Definition programming on Directv. At the bottom of the ad in smaller print it stated "Receipt of high-definition programming on DIRECTV requires an HD-capable DIRECTV Multi-satellite System with three LNBs. See retailer for system requirements.

Since I live relatively close to this place, I stopped in. Unfortunately their website is out of date and they haven't carried the Sat C for quite some time.

Sepharus is out of stock, don't know when or if they will get any more.
http://www.18inch.com has them for about the same price.

They've been selling them on Ebay recently, so they must have some in stock.

Could anyone give an explaination to how this thing installs?

It's obvious how it plugs into the switch on the end of the arm, but what's the deal with the cable and splitter looking thing?

Thanks!
The combiner and cable are for the dishes that dont have the switch built into the LNB arm.

The 110 sat LNB's output is "piggybacked" onto the 119 sat LNB's output with the combiner. This'll make the 110 sat signals look like transponders on the 119 sat.

Bradb21,

A diagram showing the hookup can be found at this url: http://www.geocities.com/dbs_tech/mdsapp/D2.htm#2

Good luck,

OK... I got mine (the Terk) and there were issues (minor) with installing it on a Panasonic dish. The mounting screw was the wrong style and legnth to mount the LNB. Certainly not insurmountable (a quick trip to the hardware store) but a bit frustrating when your on the roof.

Other than that it went in just fine. Re-ran the dish setup on both DTiVo's and the DST3000 to set to 3-LNB's and all is good. Signal stregnths are pretty good at around 86.

Doesn't seem to be any programming that I care about on 110 but if and when D* ever does move HDTV, I'm ready.
I already have an elliptical dish with the A and B LNB's installed, can I just go to Walmart or Kmart and buy the third LNB and install it to the switch? Is there more to this or are they special "C" LNB's?

Steve
From what I'm reading th "C-LNB" is special.

I have a TERk with a 5X4 switch on my arm and I plugged in an extra lnb that I had laying around, and it does NOT work for the 110 bird.

I ordered a C-LNB kit today, just in-case something happens.

Good one. Let's see ... how about, "I tried to get HD with a round dish at first, but found out I was just going in circles."

And if you didn't like that one, "I tried to point my dish, but failed. My efforts were pointless."

To say nothing of, "After my kid spilled a drink on the STB shorting it out and then complained he couldn't watch Real Sex on HBO, I told him 'You're grounded!'"
