uPnP server/clients

Hello everybody.

I've searched the forums and did not find any answeres to my questions.

Introduction:
I'd like a central media server. So far I've got a server running. It actually works like a local firewall, storrage and number cruncher (a tesla station connected to it). I've been playing around with MythTV, and somehow got it working. What I really don't like about MythTV is the record and rewind feature on the television. And the worst thing is that it's imposible to turn it of.

So there is my idea:
Install a media deamon on the server it self (Mediatumb).
Buy a couple of clients that supports uPnP content.
Make some sort of script that can activate my DVB-C card(s) when the stream is required by one of the clients.

Over to the questions:
Does some of you use this as a setup right now? (including the DVB part)
I'm in need of some really small clients. Best thing would have been: no internal storrage, wireless network and a DVI if possible. I'm using a dual projector setup on one of my rooms and a 30" LCD pc-monitor in the bedroom. Any recommendations?

Regards

Sorry, I really don't follow your objections to Myth. By default, Myth has 30 and 60 second skip forward buttons and 10 and 60 second skip backward buttons. Like most everything in Myth, you can change the skip values.

Why would you want to turn Myth off? Do you mean stop the backend server process and shut down the hardware? Why?

It sounds like you don't want to use the PVR functions; just watch live TV. If so, why do you want a media server at all? I have little idea, now, when shows are broadcast. But when I sit down to watch, Myth lists all the stuff it has recorded (or is recording at that moment) and I pick something to watch. If you don't want a PVR, why not just have a tuner at each TV?

I'd like to have a backend that can stream stored files and play live-tv. And be able to record live-tv to a file. I don't need the pause/play function on "live-tv" Thats what I want to stop on myth-tv

What specifically is the concern with these live "trick play" features? Picture quality of the "live" signal vs. what's recorded/encoded on disk? That's a potential issue for analog channels, but shouldn't make any difference with digital. Most DVRs record digital channels "as is", bit-for-bit - there should be no PQ difference from the original "live" program. Only analog channels have to be encoded/compressed for trick play modes to work.
