Hey all!

just setting up my panasonic viera and noticed in the aspect ratio settings there was a " just " option. just to clarify it doesnt mention anything about "just scan". is it the same thing? , should i be using it or stick with 16:9 aspect ratio?

help would be much appreciated

thanks.

edit: also can anyone recommend the best calibration settings ? i cant seem to settle with a setting that sticks with me

In your instruction manual, there is an Aspect Ratio section explaining the JUST mode. Refer to the attachment.

Assuming its the same thing as the newer models, its a fill mode where the center of the image is not stretched while the outer portions are stretched, leaving a non-distorted picture in the middle where most viewing is focused. Its works great and is highly recommended when you want to fill the screen for 4:3 material.

That TV was discontinued almost a year ago!

"Just Scan" is some sort of Samsung term and is not the same as Panasonic's JUST aspect mode. JUST mode is a non-linear stretch mode that stretches the middle of the screen a little and stretches the outer portions even more. The consumer models stretch the middle more than the professional models to reduce the fish-eye effect to the point that JUST mode looks almost the same as FULL mode. The pro model's JUST mode leaves the center of the screen a little more normal looking.

Here's an old thread with pictures that compare the differences:

Other people's settings won't necessarily look good in your environment but they can give you some ideas on where to start. Here's an old thread with various people's settings:

Greetings everyone. 1st post for me. I just purchase my 1st LCD flat panel TV & blue ray DVD player & have been playing with setup & trying to adjust after watching a 13" cathode tube TV for the past 25 years. Not too impressed at this point but it's comin' slowly. Can't beat cathode small screen resolution & colour IMO.
I'm a rookie at this so it'll take time. Thanks so much guys for the info on "just". I use it for cable programming such as NFL football, & "full" for DVDs. I also find that the Panasonic "cinema" picture is nice for the football games.(improves the overview of the field & is more "comfortable" to watch for me even while sacrificing some colour accuracy. Colour is a big adjustment for me as is picture distortion & motion issues relative to my previous experience. Any entry level tips on setup etc. would be very welcome. It's a bit overwhelming for a beginner. Thanks a bunch & all the best.
Blair.
