amazon white glove and tvs - Page 4

Just received my 52a650 that was originally shipped by CEVA but ended up being delivered by Eagle shipping. One of the handlers was suspect in their ability to carry a 100 lb load but I still tipped them $20 because it was snowing like crazy out. I would always recommend to keep the box incase any problems arise in the first thirty days. I love this tv though and am glad I managed to squeeze the free blu-ray offer with it. Best of luck to everyone else!

Any opinion on this question?

i did it on my own for a 46" sony.

i was really lite.

Jim if you have a screwdriver handy, I would ask the delievery guy to help you assemble the pedestal unto the TV. Its just a matter aligning the poles to the base (there is a left and right - L and R is printed at the bottom of the poles) and tighten 4 short screws. Then align the assemble pedestal to the bottom of the TV and tighten with 4 long screws. It certainly can't hurt to ask.

If you have a drill/driver and the right size hex bit, putting the screws in is much easier than using the tool provided. Also, putting the TV face down over pillows makes it easier to slide the plate in and align the holes.

I appreciate all the feed back on my question about the delivery guys attaching the pedestal to the base of the plasma.

I did read the amazon policy on white glove delivery and here is the part that gave me some hope.

"White-Glove Delivery.
Unpack your product and place it on assembled furniture".

Well placing something like this on assembled furniture imply's attaching the pedestal. But, it is not wise to read into things.

I did send Amazon and CEVA an e-mail about this but neither of them replied. I can always call CEVA and ask what their policy is.

I only live 10 minutes away from the CEVA location in Boston so I think I have a good chance that CEVA will deliver it.

I wanted a 58" screen and I know a 50" screen size would be easier to handle then a 58" if I need to do it on my own.
The weight is less also. So maybe I will just buy a 50" screen.

Well anyway, I just wanted to write back and thank everyone for their thoughts and comments. I will keep watching this thread for new developments and experiences.

Happy holidays,

Jim

6 Dec (a Saturday): I ordered my 52LG70 from Amazon.

8 Dec: Amazon sent an email saying it had shipped, and was due 15 Dec. I was able to find tracking info on Amazon's Web site confirming this. I tried the tracking number on CEVA's Web site, and they didn't know it; later that day they did, and they said delivery on 12 Dec, 3 days earlier than Amazon. The curious thing is it shipped from Reno, NV, only about 3 hours from here, but whatever.

9 Dec: CEVA showed it as being now in Sacramento, getting closer!

11 Dec evening: CEVA phoned. This part was weird: they called from a phone with a blocked caller ID. Why would a legitimate business do that? The woman who called seemed befuddled by my question, but again, whatever. She scheduled delivery for 11 to 3 tomorrow, hosing my lunch plans, but I'll adjust.

Now for the arrival! The bummer is I don't get to play with it until Christmas anyway.

Quite a few companies do that, it's not that uncommon. They may use a dedicated line for outgoing calls and don't want the number getting out for the customer to sneak a call in when the other lines are busy, or it could be one of another trillion reasons but that's the most common. I wouldn't over think it. As far as the woman being befuddled, that's understandable also, she may have had no clue the company did that. She was probably just a scheduler on the low end of the totem pole and probably wasn't involved in the setting up of the phone systems.

Exactly. The companies do not want customers to know the terminals direct number. It is no different with UPS or Fedex. You will never get the direct phone number to their terminals.

Got the TV this morning (Samsung 630) but it was not "white glove". Guy carried it into my living room and left. The TV was in perfect shape so I didn't really care. Pilot transferred the TV to a local freight company and they delivered it to me which is probably why the "white glove" got lost in translation. I can't turn the TV on anyways because it's been in a freezing cold warehouse so I have to wait for it to get to room temp before I can plug it in. Also I had to get to work

Now for the arrival! The bummer is I don't get to play with it until Christmas anyway.

Continuing my own story:

12 Dec: CEVA rang the bell about 10:40, twenty minutes before the start of the scheduled delivery window. Not a prob, and it lets me keep my lunch plans after all!

It really was CEVA--at least the truck was emblazoned with their logo. The two guys were pleasant. The whole encounter was no more than 5 minutes. They carried the box into the family room. They offered to take the box (minus TV, I assume!) away with them, but I declined. There was no offer to check it out, nor a check list, which someone earlier quoted Amazon as saying was part of the White Glove Service. So basically, they delivered it.

After they left, I noticed a hole torn in the box. (Bad me for not looking more carefully.) But poking my fingers in, there's nothing but air right there.

And for the curious, there was not a white glove worn by anyone. I thought they might at least use those cheap disposable ones that photo technicians use, if only for the image.

So that's my White Glove experience. I suppose now I'll move to the LG forums! But first, 13 days of patience until it's officially mine!

Merry Christmas!

Is anyone who's expecting a delivery soon able to track their shipment from CEVAs site right now?
Whenever I try it just loads/stalls to finally prompt some sort of server error page 5 minutes later.

I put a fake tracking # in though just to see if it would load and it did, came up with "no records found" etc.

So I'm wondering why when I put my information in - it no longer does - a day before my appointed delivery...I'm starting to become very pissed off.

Are you sure its from CEVA Logistics as your shipper and not Pilot Freight?
Yeah...I'm sure. It's working now....but I see they manipulated the original date of a scan at a certain location to 2 days later. Yeah this is ********.

My 46" Panny TV has been sitting in Milwaukee WI for 5 days! It shipped from Adorama Camera (which I believe is in NY/NJ area) in 1 day! Now it sits in some cold freight storage alone and scared while I sit not so patiently eager to give it a loving home. I called CEVA and they said that somebody will be calling me... Still waiting 3 days later for that call?

*The expected arrival date was today (Dec. 15th) but I am pretty unhappy that there is no movement of the packge or phone call/e-mail etc. Maybe I am asking too much from a no frills company?

Also, Adorama has a policy that states: Shipping Rules:
A signature is required for all UPS shipments upon receipt, Packages can not be rerouted or picked up from UPS someone must be at the address to receive the package and sign for it.

I assume that is the same for CEVA? So, I am having shipped to my office otherwise nobody is home during the day WTF!

This whole saving $578 buying my TV online is starting to have less and less appeal.
*Udate - So, I got "the call" from CEVA logistics and the TV should be here between 11am and 3pm Wednesday. Ok, so I still am not so happy that the TV sat in Milwaukee WI for 5+ days now but I am getting the TV and all is well. We will see what kind of condition it is in etc.
So the TV finally arrived on 12/15. When I first called Monday morning to confirm my delivery, I was told the truck hadn't arrived yet and my original appointment of 9am-1pm "isn't going to happen". I told her how ridiculous the whole ordeal has been so she said she will try to have them deliver it to me later that night around 6 or 7 and call me back. I said fine as long as it actually comes today. Well she called around 3pm informing me that it will be delivered around 5:30 or 6pm but would call 30mins before arriving. Never received the call, but sure enough the CEVA truck pulls up at around 4. They sent only one guy to carry a 50" plasma that weighs nearly 100lbs in box which I think is a bit foolish so I had to help him get it upstairs.

I un-boxed and checked for exterior damage before signing and all was well - so I'm just glad my TV finally came but long story short CEVA has PISS POOR tracking.

Well my own CEVA experience a few days earlier showed good tracking. It showed up on the day they originally said on their Web site (even though I never understoood the 4 days to make a 3-hour trip from Reno). And the tracking info on their Web site appeared accurate and current. It also was delivered slightly early for the start of the promised delivery window. In my case they came through--no flying colors of fabulous service (nothing to earn the name "White Glove", that is), but timely and accurate.

So I guess the net is that the CEVA experience is inconsistent depending on where you are or who's in the truck or what the current level of sunspot activity is.
I ordered my TV on the 12th from Amazon. Right now it just says shipped, estimated delivery 22nd. Shipping Company - CEVA. However no tracking info is available so I can tell where it is. Supposedly they don't send you the tracking # until after CEVA has it right?

You should call CEVA or Amazon to find out exactly where your TV is. For me, it took just a day for CEVA to put tracking information on their site, though they didn't do much after that... so give them a call. It's best not to wait around wondering. Your package could be sitting in their warehouse for days like mine did.

I had the tracking number right away from Amazon's e-mail the same day I ordered. I had Pilot though. Ordered on a Monday, had the TV Friday.

So yeah I gave Amazon a call. And they were able to give me a tracking #. Weird how they didn't put it up on the website. Anyway my TV was hanging out in Harrisburg, PA and now looks like it is in Columbus. Still got a ways to go to get to SoCal.

I cannot express my shock and awwwwwww... I took a chance on ordering on-line and having a 46" TV shipped and well.... Take a look at the pics I attached. Is it wrong to cry over a broken TV? Just to be clear this was NOT White Glove Delivery - It was Jimbo from CEVA! Somebody had to of body slammed this unit! She was cracked real good. I have waited so long and researched so much and.... I only hope Adorama will come through for me on this one. I will update and good or bad experiance I have with that. I know the title of this thread was for AMAZON but I chimed in regarding CEVA shipping and so there yah go.

another + for ceva...they didn't unbox or setup but it arrived in perfect condition...there was only 1 guy so I had to help him carry it up 3 flights to my loft but I was just happy to have it...sharp Aquos LC52D65U...thank god it's only 60lbs including base...I was able to set it up myself no problem...it's a great looking tv and the picture is fantastic
post #119 of 204
CEVA delivered my Sony yesterday, in perfect cosmetic condition. Even the box was spotless. The drivers reminded of Niko and Roman Bellic, but they were nice enough. The mounted the TV to the stand, placed on my TV table, and waited patiently while I tested a few inputs.

Not "white glove" by any stretch of the imagination, but definitely better than hauling that thing around by myself.

WHOA! How the heck did that happen? Usually LCDs are packed really well in the box.
