Thanks again but still no luck. It seems you forgot to change the number of extension blocks (byte 126) from 1 to 0 in the .inf you posted but don't worry, I was able to correct that as well as to adjust the checksum (byte 127) in no time because all I had to do was change the last two bytes from 0x01,0xDD to 0x00,0xDE of course.
After rebooting, Windows started up in 720p as expected but my attempts to create the custom resolutions miserably failed.
The Nvidia Control Panel allowed me to create one custom resolution but no additional ones after that (it tested the custom resolutions OK but it reverted the desktop back to 720p as soon as I had accepted a working test result and it didn't add the working test result either). I uninstalled the .inf and rebooted, then everything went back to how it used to be. A quick search around the web reveals Nvidia HDMI Audio issues date back all the way to 2007 so I think I might just as well give up lol.
