EDID Override Thread - Page 66

Please, need assistance.
My configuration.
HTPC
ASUS E35M1-M with ATI 6310
AMD VISIOn Engine Control Center
Version 2011.1205.22.15.39827

TV
Plasma SAMSUNG PS50B650S1P 50" (127) FULL HD

AV RECEIVER
YAMAHA RX-v467

HTPC - hdmi - AV RECEIVER - hdmi - TV
SAT receiver Dreambox connected to AV RECEIVER with HDMI.

Not sure how to describe correctly. In general, I'm not able to get a stable configuration, i.e. when turning on/off the devices or when turning on/off+changing the inputs, I get different results. Sometimes overscan problem (screen goes beyond display ), sometimes I get "AMD HDMI Output not plugged in", sometimes everything is ok.

I collected EDID info and created INF files with moninfo. One device was connected to AV RECEIVER per moninfo request. Files attached. Then the driver was created and PnP Monitor updated.

Still getting the same results. What am I doing wrong and how to get a robust result?

It's like the system doesn't accept the override although it's installed correct with the name DENON-AVAMP (EDID override) and I also delete the old unused/disabled drivers.

I have recorded the EDID's of my setup with Moninfo. I hope that these are the real-time ones. Do these files tell you anything? Thanks for your time.
Looks like the registry entries might be "corrupted" somehow. Hope that the clean-up of registry leftovers outlined in my sig. will help. Otherwise ...

Here's your mod anyway.

In general an EDID override won't fix these issues, which might get worse in your case with a mobility radeon. Only real fix is a Gefen HDMI Detective that will keep the HDMI connection alive (no switching).

However, follow the indications in my exchange with HaraldBluetooth. I will post your EDID override in a moment just to have a last chance ...

... Here's your mod.

Tulli, believe it or not. Now I've rebooted my pc four times since I installed your new mod and no matter what I do, I can't get my setup to reproduce the "bad behaviour" from before - and the system keeps your driver mod.

Now I can turn my HDTV/AVR off and I still have the correct audio settings. On and off I have used the last half year to make this happen, so now I can get my future night sleep.

As I started my first post - You are a true magician Your new mod must be different from the other Panasonic Plasma overrides I've tried until now.

Thanks a lot Tulli.

Good night

I've been all afternoon to investigate in this thread on this topic of the EDID. It is that I have a very similar problem. I have a computer with a GTX580. I would like to use the HDMI output to connect the PC to my TV in the living room, a D8000 Sasmung. This TV is connected to a 5.1 sound system (Logitech Z5500). This 5.1 system does not have HDMI input. Both are connected by an optical cable (toslink). Iconnect the computer to the TV, and I only get sound in 2.1. The only way I've had to get 5.1 sound, is with a toslink cable from the sound card of the computer (Asus Xonar DX 7.1 PCI) to the Z5500 center.

Could I use your techniques to get 5.1 only via HDMI?

Thanks in advance

Yes, try the attached EDID override. Not sure that the Samsung will accept 5.1 DTS though.

Thanks Tulli! I think that the TV can do it, because with the XBox360 it works. I'll try this later Thanks again

I just test it and it doesn't work :-( But, testing some things i discovered that when i use the default edid.inf file of the first page i can reproduce hd movies with ac3 sound via vlc using the a/52 over spdif audio option. With your edid override file i don't have this option. That shows that the TV can do the job, but i don't know how. In games (is for what i want 5.1 sound), i doesn't work at all :-( So, i am at same point.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance

Hello Tulli. Thank you very much for the prompt response. "Samsung PS50B650S1P - YAMAHA RX-V467.zip" does not help. "AMD HDMI Output not plugged in" very often (!). When open XBMC window size is strange, clicking "/" does it make full screen etc... However if everything is ON in and I restart HTPC then everything is detected well. The trick is when HTPC is on and I'm turning ON/OFF devices. The result cannot be predicted. Do you think HDMI detective will help and the only solution? Thanks in advance.

Yes, the Gefen Detective device will work.

Are AC3 and DTS listed on the HDMI audio device properties? If not, either the EDID override is not correctly installed or there's an issue with it. If you like post the native EDID of your TV to try again.

In any case read update on the subject in my linked thread from my sig. Basically the application (video player or game) must be configured to send a compressed audio stream for multichannel audio to work. With games you need DD or DTS real-time encoding of course.

I'll read all the thread thanks again

as expected, samsung just ignored my request for the EDID.
Is there any workaround for this?

I tried this EDID but only works for 720p. Is there a way to edit it to support 1080p @ 60hz?

Does 3D work with that EDID? It only has the base block. I will check in my DB for an EDID of a Samsung 3DTV for you to try ...

... OK, found one. Not guaranteed to work though as timings could be different.

Hi guys,
I gave the edid editing a go but no luck, guess I did it wrong.
hd33 has,

My probelm is,

PC HDMI OUT- HDMI IN OF SONY AMP - THEN HDMI OUT TO OPTOMA HD33 HDMI IN

Result is no sound from sony amp speakers and my pc shows SONYAMP as "Not pugged in" in the playback box, yet sonyamp shows up in devices(optoma doesnt) and also shows up still in Nvidia control panel??

Now if I disconnect the optoma from sony amp hdmi out and connect my samsung tv then the sound reappears from the sony speakers??

So,
It appears that while the optoma doesnt show up in devices while running through the sony amp the pc must be picking it up and stopping the audio as it see's optoma hd33 hasnt got speakers, dont understand why it can not pickup the sony amp speakers though until I disconnect the optoma hd33?

So,
will edid trick fix this and if so could someone do the editting for me as I just not got a clue
post #1968 of 2766
Do a cleanup of registry leftovers per section 4 of link in my sig., and then also check the outlined installation procedure.

Optoma monitor should show up as

OTM Optoma (OTM0033 EDID Override)

I've attached the .inf just in case ...

If it still doesn't work maybe a proper mod will be required, for which I'll need the real-time EDIDs of the Optoma and the Sony AVR.

Is it possible to use an EDID override to force the default pixel format to ycbr44?
Every time I turn my PC off with the computer still running then turn it back on again it defaults back to RGB so I have to mess around going into the control center and switching back go ycbr which is REALLY annoying.

Thankyou,
Will give this a try shorlty and let you know. Have been tryin to sortout this problem with sony and nvidia support but no fix from them though they were great to respond, nvidia via email and sony via a call this morning, many hdmi/vga cable swopping and switching on and off of components ensued for near 1.5h.

Sorry taken so long to respond but for some reason I didnt get notification email saying you had replied.
Unfortunately didnt work.

What I did notice is even though the image is going through the sony amp to the optoma, the optoma isnt showing up in devices, the sony amp is showing in devices" This device is working properly " But still as before its showing as "Not plugged in " under playback devices, yet it is?

Now,
The optoma when directly plugged into the pc does show up as expected as "Optoma" in devices.

So,
I have just tried to attatch the inf that moninf has created of the sonyamp realtime data for you and also the optoma hd33 realtime inf when optoma connected directly to the pc.(running your editted inf edid) but am getting invalid file? Will try again
post #1972 of 2766
Nope,
Still saying unvalid files when I try and upload?
I see you saved them as a .zip file, how do I do that?

Please make sure that the EDID override is correctly installed. Unzip the attached file and carefully follow instructions in my sig. Also, before installing try cleaning up registry leftovers (see section 4).

If the override is rightly installed the monitor will show up as "OTM Optoma (OTM0033 EDID Override)"

Tulli,
I forgot to tell you that the optoma only shows up in devices when directly connected to the pc, not sure if this information help you Tulli?

1) pc - sony - opt hd33,
pc show only sony in devices, opt disappear from devices page.

2) pc - opt hd33,
OTM Optoma (OTM0033 EDID Override) Show in devices, So your EDID Work, but still no sound?

So,
Modified EDID for opt is showing/working, but not fix no sound problem.
It seem when pc-sony-opt then pc see sony in devices but still say not connected in playback devices??

I now wonder if sony amp is the problem by way it work when hdmi out is used??

Check the "Supported Formats" window on the HDMI audio device properties and see that all audio formats are listed.

Set it to multichannel (5.1 or 7.1). Do you get Windows test tones?

Also, make sure that the NVidia HDMI audio device is set to default. If applicable, disable any onboard audio while troubleshooting.

I'm confused from reading all these posts. Can anyone help me on the correct path to of getting surround sound?

Current setup
Laptop (Running Vista) with NVIDIA 9600M GT -> HDMI -> LG 60PK550 -> SPDIF -> Vizio VHT510 soundbar

I also have a PS3 connected to the tv by HDMI.

When I play a movie with AC3 audio on the computer, I only get stereo sound. HDMI audio properties shows Dolby Digital as the supported format. If i go to configure speakers, it only has Stereo as an option. In VLC, the menu for audio channels only shows stereo, left, and right.

From what I read, there is a limitation of getting more than two channels over SPDIF, but shouldn't AC3 audio work? When I play the same movie on the PS3 using PS3 media server, it gets surround sound via the SPDIF cable from the tv. If PS3 can send surround sound to the soundbar, the laptop should be able too.

Can I just override the EDID in the windows registry to say the LG tv accepts surround sound? I have looked at it in moninfo and it says
"CE audio data (formats supported)
LPCM 2-channel, 16/20/24 bit depths at 32/44/48 kHz"

But how can I override it to accept surround sound?

This is the moninfo output:

After some testing I got some results but not working 100% yet. I took the EDID inf created by moninfo and replaced the receiver raw data with the one from RandomFoe's EDIDOverride.inf file. The .inf updated the drivers successfully for the LG tv.
Now when I test Dolby Digital supported format in the HDMI audio properties, I can hear it playing the rear speakers and the soundbar lights up the Dolby light. The speaker setup now shows Stereo and 7.1 Surround, but when I click on the speakers to test them, only the front left and right ones work. Playing a movie with AC3 sound, VLC defaults to Stereo still. If I select 5.1, I don't hear all the sounds.
If testing DD works, how can I make playing movies work? Does it matter what receiver's info I put into the EDID file? I figured you just need to trick the computer to think there is surround sound. The soundbar doesn't have HDMI so I can't use moninfo to get the raw data from it.

All is good now! Getting surround sound. Just had to tell VLC to play using A/52 over S/PDIF instead of 5.1.
