I'm confused from reading all these posts. Can anyone help me on the correct path to of getting surround sound?
Current setup Laptop (Running Vista) with NVIDIA 9600M GT -> HDMI -> LG 60PK550 -> SPDIF -> Vizio VHT510 soundbar I also have a PS3 connected to the tv by HDMI. When I play a movie with AC3 audio on the computer, I only get stereo sound. HDMI audio properties shows Dolby Digital as the supported format. If i go to configure speakers, it only has Stereo as an option. In VLC, the menu for audio channels only shows stereo, left, and right. From what I read, there is a limitation of getting more than two channels over SPDIF, but shouldn't AC3 audio work? When I play the same movie on the PS3 using PS3 media server, it gets surround sound via the SPDIF cable from the tv. If PS3 can send surround sound to the soundbar, the laptop should be able too. Can I just override the EDID in the windows registry to say the LG tv accepts surround sound? I have looked at it in moninfo and it says "CE audio data (formats supported) LPCM 2-channel, 16/20/24 bit depths at 32/44/48 kHz" But how can I override it to accept surround sound? ... |
