EDID Override Thread - Page 70

Mentioned my my configuration problems on a different thread and was told a HDMI Detective may work, but want to find out first before I make a decent investment. Anyone with any input?

I am unable to get a connection from my Toshiba Thrive tablet (HDMI out at 720p) to my Optoma EP910 projector (HDCP compliant, native resolution 1400 x 1050, with supported 720p resolution) via HDMI to DVI cable. And also not able to do this with a Denon AVR391 receiver added in the desired chain (tablet - HDMI cable - receiver - HDMI to DVI cable - projector).

The HDMI port works fine on the Toshiba Thrive outputting to receiver and display set-ups when only HDMI is used, and will output audio to my receiver if the projector is not being output. But, as soon as the projector is plugged in, all audio is lost and no video is displayed. Point is I can output video to HDMI displays, but have never once been able to output video to this DVI display.

I have a laptop existing in the set-up and have no issues outputting via HDMI to the receiver to the projector at 1600x900; if the projector is off, the audio still will play through the receiver. If the receiver is off, the audio will play through the laptop speakers.

My question is, is if I add the HDMI Detective to the chain for the tablet (tablet - HDMI cable - HDMI Detective - HDMI cable - receiver - HDMI to DVI cable - projector) will this solve my issue of sending audio and video to the HDMI receiver and DVI projector?

The tablet will only accept standard resolutions, so it seems. So the HDMI Detective should be set to 720p (1280x720). Will the proj. sync at that resolution?

First, I'm no expert at these things. There are no options that I can see on the tablet to change resolutions, so I think I can only output 1280x720. But, I am able to output from my laptop to the projector at that resolution, so I think it's okay.

I may not really understand the HDMI Detective, but it seemed to me it's use was to keep an output source constant to prevent problems from awakening sleeping HTPCs. I've never got a handshake from the projector, so worried that they are just not compatible.

Also, it seemed like you plug in the HDMI Detective to the receiver that the projector is connected through and then it automatically programs the EDID information onto it -- is it complicated to manually set a resolution on it?

Yes, that's right. Scratch my previous question. It's already answered by the proj. not syncing with the tablet at 720p. In sum, the detective won't help.

That's a shame. I was hoping to have a solution. Is there anything else that might work?

Not IMO, I'm afraid. You have one device that only accepts 720p and the other that won't take 720p. So they can't handshake. Unless there's a way to manually set the resolution for the tablet, but I don't know ...

From your response, it got me to thinking that I may as well try this when I get home: Set laptop output resolution to 720p, and then switch HDMI cable to tablet. Probably pretty naive, but about the only thing I haven't tried yet, and worth a try.

Hello everyone. I need help editing the EDID for my Planar PX2611W monitor. The native resolution is 1920x1200 but about 2 months ago the EDID became corrupted and most of the resolutions vanished, leaving only some low res options. I know that it is possible to fix this because I used an *.ini file for a different Planar monitor and it allowed me to use the resolutions specified in that file. Unfortunately they are not the native resolutions for my monitor.

I just need to edit the actual data to allow a 1920x1200 resolution, but I have no idea how.

Thank you for your reply. I've tried updating my driver using the *.inf file you provided, however it didn't seem to work. I am still stuck at 1920x1080 as the max resolution. =/

MonInfo sees the correct information, but windows doesn't.

I just noticed that if I click List All Modes in my graphics adapter settings, it only goes up to 1920x1080. I have a Nvidia gtx 460 SE, and it worked just fine before...could this be a problem with my video card?

Did you reboot after applying the EDID override? I doesn't look like it was installed at all. Try cleaning up all registry leftovers of monitor drivers (see proc. in my sig in section 4).

Which am I suppose to use for the TV portion, and how do I split it up?

The EDID from your TV through the AVR is fine, so your issue, whatever it is, shouldn't be EDID-related.

If you still wan't to override the EDID use exactly this one.

I have a Radeon 5770 that has been in use on a 26" desktop monitor for about 2 years. About a month ago, I replaced the gaming rig and turned the old gaming rig into a media center after a fresh install (wiped the hard drive) of Win 7 Ult.

I leave the HTPC on 24x7 and do not use power management. It's connected to a Vizio 47" LCD (about 5 years old) over HDMI. When I turn the TV on first thing in the morning, I often have a green screen. Note that if I power the TV off during the day and back on again a few hours later I don't get the green screen problem.

I ran across this thread and installed moninfo package thinking it might solve the green screen problem. About the same time, I upgraded my Radeon drivers to the latest as that seems to be a common suggestion for just about any video problem I run across.

Now, I still see the green screen from time to time, so moninfo doesn't seem to have fixed the green screen. Further, it seems I've introduced a new problem regarding audio. If I don't get the green screen, I get a Media Center error about no audio device. When I open the Playback devices, the Vizio HDMI is listed as an audio playback option but it's disabled. I am using the TV for sound, ie, no AVR.

I can log out and log in again (not reboot), and the HDMI audio is back.

Can anyone speculate on if the moninfo is causing the audio problem, or is it the Radeon driver? Second, I know if I rollback to an older Radeon and remove moninfo, I'm back to green screen. Should moninfo fix that or not?

So, I had posted my question to the Gefen forum also, and the administrator said it should work if you fool the tablet that there is a tv with sound on the other end instead of a dvi projector -- does this make any sense?

When I output from my computer to the projector at 720p, it says briefly that it's outputting at 1280x1024 60, because it is 4:3 native that is then cropped to 720. Is the issue not about the resolutions, but rather about the sound?

Are there less expensive devices that do the same thing that I could try this with?

What is exactly doing that "Moninfo package"? Do you mean an EDID override?

The problem with sound is driver related and cannot be solved with an EDID override. I have it myself with my 5750.

Well, that could work indeed and it could be tried. Post the native EDID of the proj. and I'll add an extension block (you could do it yourself if you want).

I currently have all my sources running into an Integra DTR-30.3 (3D, 120Hz capable) going into a VIP 3D Theater then to an Acer H5360. Without a custom edid with 3D enabled, the VIP Theater would not be triggered in 3D mode and I would end up getting eye swaps every 5 minutes due to the AMD HD3D driver using quad buffer without HDMI 1.4 signaling. So I used the Panasonic 3D TV driver with Marantz edid from you list and got the VIP Theater to recognize HDMI 1.4 signaling. Also games with built in native 3D functions for AMD such as Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 would start working because they recognized the edid as 3D capable with HDMI 1.4 instead of just seeing my Acer through a receiver. With the Panasonic edid, I lost the ability to do 720p 120Hz for when I game in 2D on the projector, or watch movies and want to eliminate 2:3 pulldown without running 24Hz options. It would be awesome to be able to use the VIP Theater edid with proper surround options and HDMI 1.4 signaling flagged.

So what is needed is a custom EDID for your setup, i. e. the merged EDID of the Acer H5360 + Audio Block of the Integra.

Yes, moninfo is an EDID override application from Entech. It seemed that the green screen problem is supposedly solved by an EDID override. Based on current experience, I'm not so sure.

What sounds driver do I need to look into? Can I assume it's provided by ATI/AMD? Since it just started it seems like it has to be related to either the EDID override or the latest Radeon package I downloaded. And if EDID override isn't the cause, it seems like it must be new Radeon driver.

Do you ever solve the problem? What driver package are you using?

I have already created that custom edid, the problem arises when I am reading the edid via Monitor Assest Manager, the 3D flags are saying not supported even though the VIP Theater is 3D and HDMI 1.4 capable. I didn't have these issues with the mold Nvidia 560 TI reading HDMI 1.4 capability & 3D along with the 120 Hz with nothing special regarding the edid other than the my receiver's name showing up as the dispaly device (Integra DTR-30.3) Here is my raw data of my receiver, Vip theater, and Acer directly from Monitor Asset Manager.

Tried different driver versions including latest without success. The problem happens with the disconnection (power off) of the display device, after which the audio device is disabled and doesn't fully re-enable after power on.

Don't know about your green screen problem but I presume that it's a driver problem too.

Looks fine to me, and from what you say the problem is not the EDID but the graphic driver perhaps. Not much to add really ...

Well that sux. What kind of monitor are you seeing this on? It's weird that it just started. Maybe I should revert to an older driver and see if it goes away - the audio problem that is.

No green screen since EDID override. And no audio errors since downgrading the video driver (Radeon 5770). Hoping it holds...

Hopefully someone can help me with my current issue.

My HTPC is setup to two displays as follows:

HTPC -> HDMI -> Denon 2309 -> HDMI -> Panasonic AE2000U Projector
HTPC -> DVI -> Dell 2405FWP Monitor

My HTPC is using the integrated graphics of the Intel i5-661 processor.


When everything is powered up it works just fine. However if I try to have on just the monitor and the Denon the monitor flickers a "Can Not Display This Mode" message. If I turn off the Denon or turn on the projetor the monitor will show the computer desktop.

I'd like to be able to listen to music off of the computer while working on it while having the projector off. I've had it working like this in the past where turning on the Denon didn't mess up the monitor's display. I don't know what has changed to stop this from working properly.

It seems like when the Denon is being brought online the HTPC changes the video output to a mode that isn't compatible with the monitor. However there isn't a monitor attached that is able to display anything so I can see what signal it is sending or change it.

Let me know if you have any ideas on how to fix this. Also let me know if this likely isn't an EDID issue and I can start a new thread for this issue.

Try cleaning up registry entries for monitor drivers by following procedure outlined in section 4 in my sig. (removing registry leftovers). Then reboot.

Thanks for the tip. I did that and cleared up quite a few items but it didn't solve the issue.

I did get it fixed though using 'Print Screen's and setting up pens to know where to move the mouse on my phantom display. It was set to 'Single Display' with the Denon Amp as the only monitor.

I've got it back so that the monitor is the main display with Denon as a the secondary.
