To get the 5.1 sound out from notebook (w/ NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M) with HDMI to pass through Sony Bravia KDL-46EX720 over to an old Technics SA DX930 home theater amp.
In other words: GT650M >> HDMI >> TV SONY EX720 >> S/PIDF >> AMP
My Windows 8 says I can only get 2 channels. However, upon the same setup the TV can pass 5.1 with no problem when other source is connected to it (Blu-ray player, VG consoles). So I presume this must be the case of EDID info going back from the TV to Windows.
I tried to use one of Tulli's files with the override combo (EX720 + an Onkyo amp), but it didn't work, not sure if becasue of the wrong amp, or a completely mistaken approach from my side. I hardly get the problem in general, but from what I've gathered so far, the best way to get things work is to hope for Tulli to mod the file I attach smile.gif I would really appreciate any help! Thanks in advance!
Best regards!

Wow this thread is giving me hope that getting 5.1 through HDMi is possible. A big thank you to all who are involved.

I have a GTX 480 with latest nvidia sound driver, HDMI (via dvi to HDMI) to my Sony KDl46HX853 TV which then has an optical out to my Yamaha amp (which doesnt have HDMI...).

Issue is i get only the choice of two channels when selecting my Sony tv as the audio output in windows, xbox, ps4, bluray etc all play 5.1 audio with no issue so I'm hoping it may be an INF EDID problem?

So how would I go about creating a inf for a Sony KDl46HX853 tv?!
Many thanks guys!

The mod in post #2402 above should work with your TV. Otherwise follow instructions in my sig. for capturing the real-time EDID.

Curious, the one in 2404 above didnt work (still two channel) but the sony/Onynx 3d tv one in your EDID signature thread did allow me to get 5.1.

Unfortunately though while it allowed me to select 5.1 it only plays two channels. WHen i test i get the tone for right and left but not centre, rear and sub.

Is this a common issue? Thanks again!

EDIT: Thanks for the update #2409 on 2 channels, sorry had missed that.

I'll have fun playing with that tonight smile.gif

Hi, thanks for your help with KDL-46EX720.
Unfortunately, I had no luck in making it work right. I followed previously posted implementation procedures, but so far I get no 5.1 option to choose through windows sound properties, nor throgh any of the software I use for playback or games.
I'll keep looking into this, perhaps find out that I'm doing something wrong.
Cheers

Well, have to repeat it for the nth time: 2 channels detection in Windows is correct for S/PDIF bandtwidth, regardless of the phyisical connection being HDMI. It means 2-LPCM, or uncompressed audio. Just set your application to send and uncompressed AC3, or WAV-encapsulated DTS stream, and it will work. Otherwise use a S/PDIF connection or get a live DD sound card.

Awesome, thank you! Looked intimidating but once I got going its super easy thanks to this thread.

I tacked the EDI data for the Yammy receiver from RandomFoes original post into an inf file for my LG 47cm565 that I generated with Monifo to get access to more audio options for my HTPC. Not the right receiver but it gives me the options I wanted so it works.

Before that the only option I had was two channel analog output.

HTPC (Geforce 610)--->HDMI--->TV(47cm565)
>optical---->Yamaha rx-v1500

Phew, can anybody help me out with this?
My setup is as follows:
PC (GTX660ti/Win7) > HDMI > TV (LG 32LG5600) > S/PDIF > Amp (Technics SA-DX 930)
Whenever I use my PS3, Movies will play fine in DTS and DD5.1 but with my PC i can only get stereo to work.

I already tried some of the posted LG+DTS .inf-files, but none of them really worked. E.g. when I go to the windows speaker configuration and hit the test-button, only the front speakers are working or movies with an ac3 track will only play correctly if I set ffdshow to passthrough - and then again _that_ already worked without fiddling around with the EDID. Plus in Games like Asassins Creed 3 or Crysis 2 I'll get no sound at all.

So... is there any way to solve this? I attached the EDID file from the TV - but since moninfo only got me a redscreen, I had to extract it with another tool - I hope that's still okay.

Yes, it's possible, but with the caveats singled out in the referred post.

I am having a similar issue to eProDarkAngel, post #2399. I have tried to follow all the various instructions but have not been successful in creating a working EDID file.
My system does not always recognize the AVR unless I reset the HDMI port.

Win7x64 HPTC GTX460 -> HDMI->SonyAVR->HDMI->PhilipsTV

Thanks in advance

What do you mean by "not always"? In which specific cases?
Sorry I cannot be exact.. Depends on how I set the HdmiYO to reset hdmi. I would say it works maybe 1 out of 10 times or so.
I've tried all sorts of thing ( again sorry for be vague ) and the closest I got it was maybe 1 out of 2, but then the TV would always defaults to 59hz (which looks washed out ) instead of default 60hz.

Thanks

The EDIDs are only 128 bytes. The full 256-bytes real-time EDIDs are required.
I was using the wrong vesion of Moninfo. Attached are files using the latest Moninfo which include 'HKR,EDID_OVERRIDE,"1" lines.
I hope these are correct, but I am concerned since when loaded in EDID manage ( loaded from registry since I cannot generate the bins ) only 128 blocks show, not 256.
As mentioned before, I am sure I am doing something wrong but still cannot figure out what.

Also, for test porpuses, I went ahead and loaded a somewhat similar EDID overide inf from forum post and that seems to work very well as far as being detected when waking the system.. PhilipsTV_SonyAVR_2.zip 2k .zip file

Thanks

Tulli,
Sorry for the late response, something came up and I didnt have the time to follow up on this. I went ahead and installed the provided merged driver, unfortunately this did not solve my issue. But I did notice that sometimes it did work better. In the end, and I dont really remember exactly what lead me down this path, I was finally able to fix this damn annoying problem.

What I did was a combination of things, first I kept the merged driver since it clearly is a better solution. Then I set the HDMI reset to 5 seconds, this is because it takes my PC 2-3 secs to wake and then another additional 1sec ( maybe less ) to synch with the AVR ( I see this because of the HDMI indicator ). All though this the TV is still getting set up on HDMI port X ( and this is where I think the problem lies), usually this takes 9-10secs. Then finally, using MCE Standby, I set MCE to run only after 10secs ( this is just about the time the TV finally synchs).
I still cant quite explain the particular timing scheme that works, but it now works %100, I now always find the AVR and the TV is set correctly.

Thanks Tulli, and everyone on this board for their suggestions

I have just upgraded my HTPC with a HD6450 and am not able to get AC3 and DTS. I use a hdmi scaler between the pc and tv, this splits the audio that I can feed to my amp. It used to work fine with the onboard graphics, but now it only supports stereo.

I have tried various inf files on the post, and the closest I got was the Samsung UE40ES7000+(2LPCM,AC3&DTS,6Spkrs).inf a few pages back, this let me use ac3 and dts but the tv does not support the resolution.

TV is a Samsung le40s86bd, I have attached inf created from Moninfo.

I hope someone can help!!

Hi!

First of all - sorry for my bad english.
I`ve found this great thread while im searching internet fo fix my following problem:

I`m owner of a LG 47LM620s 3D TV which uses polarisation. That TV is not NVIDIA 3D Vision Ready.

This ist my configuration:

PC with NVIDA GTX 680
HDMI
> DENON AVR 1611
HDMI
> LG 47LM620S TV

With this configuration it`s possible to listen to 5.1 Sound through HDMI - but playing Games in 3D @ 1920x1080/60 is not possible.
In Windows 8, my Playing Device is called "denon-avamp-1".

So i searched internet to find an EDID Override inf. File to make my TV Nvidia 3DVision ready.
I`ve found this page: http://3dvision-blog.com/tag/edid-override/

I´ve downloaded the EDID- File at the bottom of the page: http://3dvision-blog.com/wp-content/files/passive-3d-monitor-edid-override-inf.zip

I´ve installed the ACER Driver. Now my TV ist detected as 3D Vision Ready an 3D is working perfect @ 1080p/60

BUT

I can`t choose 5.1 Sound through HDMI anymore...
My playing device is now called "LG TV" and System doesn`t recognize my DENON AVR anymore. (denon-avamp-1 is gone)

Can someone of you make an EDID File for me that gives me 3D @ 1080p/60 AND 5.1 Sound through HDMI?
That would be great!

Thank you!

Hi All,

I am having a little setup trouble here. My setup WAS

Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit - HP Microserver AMD Turion™ II Model Neo N40L with 4GB RAM

YAMAHA rx-v671 amp
HTPC - Geforce 210 with latest device drivers.

With XBMC everything works apart from DTS-HD MA. When I try to play there is no audio and the video stutters. The display on the amp behaves strangely as if its switching speaker channels. Everything works perfect if I turn off DTS-HD Capable reciever. Please find the screenshots and the log file. Thank you all in advance.

Sharp is my TV and the playback device was shown as SHARP eventhough audio output was through AMP. If i trun TV off and remote to the HTPC then playback device is RXV671.

After posting this in this xbmc thread, i realised nvidea g210 is not capable of playing DTS HD-MA.
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=146911

I bought s ATI 6450 graphics card and that didnt help either now this is what I get

The supported formats listed are

DTS Audio
Dolby Digital Plus
DTS-HD
Dolby TrueHD
Dolby Digital

When I play DTS-HD MA video stutter and when the video stutter no sound. I am in wort condition than before upgrading from Nvidia G210 to AMD ATI HD 6450. Please help
