Should this work? Iam using your EDID override for the 40ES7000 but still can only select stereo when choosing configure speakers in the sound control panel. Thanks for your time and patience.

If I recall correctly, I'm fairly certain hdtv's will only pass 5.1 dolby/pcm from the antenna/cable input. All other inputs including hdmi will only pass on stereo to the receiver.

This is true but my 360 can pass 5.1 through the tv via HDMI so I assume my PC could too, if it was capable of sending the signal.

Does the tv then pass on the 5.1 from the xbox on to the receiver over optical? If so then check that the signal coming in from the pc is dolby digital/dts and not lpcm.

This is what I'm trying to make happen. It does pass through optical from the TV but the computer doesn't seem to want to output Dolby or DTS

I was very happy to find this thread hoping it would solve my issues, as I too like so many others am getting only stereo out via my HDMI.

Here is my setup:

Asus M4A88TD-M with on-board Radeon HD 4250

Ahh! Thank you!

That would explain why I get surround sound when playing media in XBMC, it must just do pass-through. I want to use MPC, so I'll just have to find how to configure it for audio pass-through and I should be all good.
Hi There,

I am hoping this forum can provide some suggestions on what I believe is an EDID issue with my current HTPC setup which consists of the following pieces of hardware:

Panasonic PT-AE8000u
Denon 3312ci AV Receiver

HTPC Setup:
MSI Based Mobo running a Quad Core Intel CPU
MSI GTX 660ti Power Edition Video Card
1 Ceton Cablecard Tuner (4 Tuners)
2 HD Home Run Devices (4 ATSC Tuners)
16GB RAM
Samsung Solid State Drive for OS & Boot etc.
Windows 8 64-Bit edition (Problem also happens using Win 7 64-bit version as well)

Problem I am having is my screen will go black and I will lose video on the Projector and when the display comes back, when watching TV within Media Center on some premium channels, and when watching HD channels awhen they cut to commercial that may have a non-hd resolution commercial etc. I will see the Panasonic Projector "On screen display" showing the Input GUI as if the projector is redetecting the inputs...???

I am running a 30 foot Monoprice "Redmere" HDMI cable directly out of the Nvidia Video Card straight to the projector...

I bypassed the Denon receiver since that is another whole "Plug and Play" issue in and of itself....(Windows 7 or 8 does not recognize the Panasonic Projector at the end of the HDMI connection when routed thru the Denon 3312ci Receiver)

I do not get any "Screen Blanking" issues when I play a Blu-ray from my PS3, XBOX 360, or with my Toshiba HD-DVD player either routed thru the Denon 3312 or direct to the Projector...

I just purchased a "Gefen HDMI Detective" to see if that would remedy the issue by either forcing the resolution by the presets within the device or by "Learning" the EDID information from the Projector and have not had much luck with that either....

I could be doing something wrong on the HDMI Detective, but what I have read is pretty straightforward, connect the projector to the device, learn the EDID of the projector, and then connect your HTPC and power it on so the "Sync" occurs and is set...

If I do this, the connection is still not reliable and I will also get more HDCP errors when going to channels like HBO etc when using the device...

I am pretty much out of options albeit buying a Radeon based video card, but don't know if that will work, and I would prefer to have my newly purchased GTX660ti in the PC since it is a nice card to begin with!

Would love some input from some AVS Forum Members who had had these issues and know possible cures...

The only think I have not done is any registry tweaks, since I thought the Gefen HDMI Detective would solve my issue...

HELP!
If the problem is EDID related it should work with the Gefen. What about the HDMI cable/connector? Have you tried swapping it?

I'm trying to follow this guide here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1357375/advanced-mpc-hc-setup-guide

Without seeing the 5.1/7.1 options in win7 I'm still only getting stereo to my RX-V1900

Are AC3 and DTS listed under "Supported Formats" for the HDMI audio device? Check the HDMI setup on the AVR. It must be set to NOT passthrough of the TV audio.

Only Dolby Digital is listed. AVR has AMP or AMP+TV HDMI options and it's set to AMP.
That looks like the TV audio descriptor, so your connection is through the TV, right? In that case there would be no EDID detection problem and no need of an EDID override,

No, connection is directly from PC to the AVR. Here is what it looks like (all HDMI cables)

PC -> AVR -> TV

I don't think that is the TV audio descriptor, to get to this setting I go via the following menu structure on the AVR.

MANUAL SETUP -> SOUND MENU -> AUDIO SET -> HDMI AUDIO (AMP or AMP + TV)
Well, according to the info on AMD site:

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-4000/ati-radeon-hd-4200/Pages/ati-radeon-hd-4200-specificatications.aspx

the HD4200 can only do 5.1 AC3:

"Integrated HD audio controller with multi-channel (5.1) AC3 support, enabling a plug-and-play cable-less audio solution"

Which coincidentally happens to be the audio capability of your Panasonic TV. So there is definitely no EDID detection issue, and problem is with the MPC-HC setup.

For debugging right-click on the MPC-HC window during playback, then filters->LAV audio decoder->status. That will show what exactly is being sent to the AVR.
I've got the LAV audio decoder installed and enabled but during playback I don't see it listed under filters. Here is what I'm seeing:

When I clicked on the MPC Audio Decoder I did not have have S/PDIF pass-through options selected, and when I did select it for both AC-3 and DTS I finally started getting surround to the receiver!

That being said in the example above I'm playing the movie 300 with TrueHD. When I select TrueHD as the source I only get stereo, when I select AC3 I get surround. I'm assuming this is due to the fact that the HD4200 can only do 5.1 AC3. However, I also have Top Gun in 1080p with 6.1 DTS and now with when I play it I'm getting 6.1 DTS to my receiver. How is that possible if the card is only capable of 5.1?
Hi

Could someone please help me!
I've been trying to get surround sound out to my Harman Kardon AVR 350 (connected to Infocus X10 projector) via my Geforce GTX 670 card for awhile now, without any luck (Using Win 7 64bit)
i think i've tried every possible connection
So here's what i've tried (all with HDMI):

Geforce GTX 670 > AVR > InFocus X10
I get video but no sound and in sound settings i get 4 nvidia ports that are greyed out and says "not plugged in" can't select anything whatsoever

GTX 670 > AVR
I get surround sound (only multi ch pcm for whatever i play, but thats maybe because i've not downloaded any codecs?) doesn't matter, at least i have sourround biggrin.gif and thats what i'm aiming for

GTX670 > AVR > TV (LG M2262DP) only tested this to see if i get any sound
I get Stereo, but if i shut avr off and turn on while playing windows 5.1 test i get surround, until i shut it off again then i get stereo (i have to shut AVR off and start the 5.1 test, doesn't work to start the test while AVR is on then i'll only get stereo)

BTW my AVR 350 is identified as AVR347 both in nvidias cp and in the sound settings (don't know if thats anything to worry about)
but when the tv is connected to the AVR then the tv is displayed in nvidias cp and sound settings but the infocus is only showed in nvidias cp and in sound settings i get nvidia Hdmi output

I also used a friends laptop with ati card (don't know what type, can ask if thats important) with my avr and infocus and he just had to plug it in and it worked flawless, so i know it's working

I've also tried getting EDID info from moninfo but i don't think i get all info for the avr
i'm gonna try with my friends laptop to se if i get other results, but i'll post what I got:

moninfo.txt 4k .txt file AVR350.txt 2k .txt file

I Hope Tulli or anyone will help me out with this cuz i have no idea what i should do, can't fin anything in the avr settings either that could help

I guess it's because the bandwidth is still enough for that particular 6.1 DTS audio stream.

@g0rgar: are you using Nvidia drivers from their website or Microsoft's? It really looks like a driver problem.
i'm using nvidias latests drivers
I merged the base block of the EDID you posted with the extension block of the HK355. If the video timings correspond to your projector it could work. Otherwise I need the full real-time EDID of the Infocus.

Merged EDIDs.zip 1k .zip file

seems like i hadn't connected the cable properly from hdmi out on the receiver, thats why i didn't have picture

so thanks alot Tulli!! you the man!smile.gif

Hi Tulli,

Thanks for your reply...I spoke with a support rep named Ryan over at Gefen and he told me that this is a known issue with Nvidia Based GPU's and hopefully they will release a fix with a future driver update...as even the people at Gefen have not had any luck with this..

I am somewhat confused....Is there a way to force an EDID via software using a custom built .inf file like the ones you create?

Once again I have an MSI Nvidia GTX660ti and a Panasonic PT-AE8000U Projector....I am going straight from HTPC to Projector and using an optical cable for sound...

I had too much issues routing thru my Denon 3312ci.....

I am willing to try any option, just would like to be able to enjoy my new Panasonic Projector with no HDMI Blanking Sync Issues...

Thanks for your Help Tulli, You are doing a great thing here for people in the forums!

Yes, it's possible to force an EDID with the EDID override technique. As you're going straight to the proj. you could just use the captured real time EDID to override. Perhaps this will help with the handshaking.

Another option is to physically disable hotplug detection by blocking pin 19 on the HDMI connector:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1091403/edid-override-thread/2100#post_22086161

Or the DVI version:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1091403/edid-override-thread/2100#post_22086908

Of course there's also the possibility to try a different card/driver, e. g. AMD.
Tullli,

Thanks for the reply.

So if I just follow your tutorial for the Radeon EDID override, I should get what I need, eventhough that thread is geared towards people who are mostly experiencing bitstreaming sound dropouts etc. Correct?

Looks like this should help with my "Picture" dropouts as well right?

Thanks Again,

I will follow your tutorial and post back my results to add to the forum!

Thanks Again!

Hello everyone.

I have tried following the instructions on the various guides, trying different merges but I've had no success on getting my HTPC to bitstream HD Audio to my AVR.

My setup is as follows:

ZOTAC IONITX-T-E -> HDMI -> PIONEER VSX-321 -> HDMI -> LG 26LE5500

In sound properties, I get the normal compressed sound modes (AC3, DTS) but not DTS-HD nor Dolby TrueHD.
Drivers are last WHQL nVidia drivers. This same setup worked flawlessly with XBMCBuntu and OPENELEC.

The raw data obtained with MonInfo is as follows:

HTPC plugged directly to the LGTV:

Can't find any evidence that the Nvidia ION can bitstream TrueHD and DTS-HD, Did this work with XBMCBuntu and OPENELEC, as you say?

The Nvidia page only mentions Intel High Definition audio (HDA) or Azalia:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/picoatom_specifications.html

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/high-definition-audio.html

As far as I can see this only means plain DD and DTS + multichannel "High Quality" analog audio.

Have you tried any of the LG overrides in my sig. They should work if the capability of bitstreaming of HD audio is there ...
