Hi Kemac, you are right, it does work with the original file in the first post... now what did I do wrong...

your EDIDs start like this

but should start like this

I'm not sure of anything else

Your EDID data that you posted for your 863 doesn't contain the extension block, it is only 4 lines in length when it should be 8 lines. Its the missing 4 lines that should be in your second override line. Can you update your inf to use the last 4 lines from this EDID? I could do it for you but I am in the middle of making diner.

Then your second override line will start with 0x02, as skidoo pointed out because you will be using the second block of 128 instead of the first block of 128.

Great! You got it to work!!

Just keep in mind that since you have a 3XXX series ATI card that you have to make sure you send your AVR the raw AC3 for 5.1.. If anything in your playback chain is converting AC3 or any other codecs to PCM you will only get 2 channel audio.

Kemac your the best, I actually had to set the audio stream in Power DVD to AC3/DTS Pass-through, is this right ??

Sound seems to be perfect and working in 5.1 mode !!

Finally got it working thanks to everyone here. LG 50" Plasma, Radeon EAH4550 with HDMI and RX-V863 Amp. All works fine 5.1. But am having troubles with a jerky wireless mouse. Everytime I reinstall the bluetooth drivers I lose the sound setting. Have to reinstall my EDID Override and then re install Realtek 2.09 drivers to get it back. Anyone else had this problem? Is there a work around. I thought of locating the files that it uses and making them read only but where to start.

even better, looks like the newest version 2.20 of moninfo will actually create the .inf for you, very useful.

under File-> Create inf

creates it from the real time (live) EDID read

Just to clarify, it will create an INF from the user selected EDID, which is always a live EDID by default but can be any EDID of record - even one loaded from a file.

And you can then merge the extension bloc from a second EDID - e.g., from a receiver - into an existing INF (File > Merge extension...).

The resulting INF will contain the model ID, serial number, range limits and native/preferred DTD of *your* display, rather than someone else's, and the audio information from your receiver rather than some other unit.

I have read through the majority of this thread and find it awesome that there are people out there who like to help.

I'm using:
vista 64
Powercolor 4830
yamaha v863
and an older samsung plasma that only has a dvi input. (using a dvi/hdmi cable from tv to 863)


I've installed the realtek driver, shut off onboard audio and when I used the .inf file from the zip on the first page there was audio but no video when windows loaded. I thought that it was just because the edid for the monitor in the zip was just not working. I downloaded moninfo and changed the raw data for the tv to what moninfo gave me for my tv. I then restarted and i have video but alas no audio once again. I've uploaded the inf file I created so hopefully somebody could take a look at it. I would really like to get this working, I have the Dark Knight on BR waiting for me if I do, I haven't seen it yet. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Couple things: you need an extra 0x01 at the start of the first block:

Unfortunately this did not work. I've uploaded the moninfo file for my tv and just intend to use the data from the randomfoes zip for my avr. There has to be a way for this to work I just cant seem to figure this out. Any help and or advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is one of the best threads I've stumbled upon in quite a while. The information is very timely as I've been working through 2 problems getting my HTPC to play nicely with my surround sound processor and TV.

The first problem was getting the HDMI audio to work - I was getting the dreaded "your HDMI cable is unplugged" message despite the fact that it was indeed plugged in and the video was clearly working .

The 2nd problem was that 720P resolutions weren't working from Catalyst Control Center which was forcing me to use PowerStrip to get them working which meant I coulnd't use the simpler Catalyst Control Center Custom HDTV Format feature.

It took me all of 10 minutes to grab the EDID info from the TV and surround sound processor and then create my own customized version of the EDIDOverride.inf posted in the first post.

I now have HDMI audio and the 720P resolutions work with no need for PowerStrip. Since my video card is a 3870, my audio options are more limited than if I upgrade to a 4xxx series card. So the next step is to find a 4xxx series card that's a single slot wide, has a native HDMI port, and is powerful enough for HTPC use (no gaming).

I would attach the full inf file, but it's obviously somewhat specific to my combination of TV and surround sound processor - I assume the EDID override values for each device are more useful to people.

Thank God for AVS Forum. This EDID thread save my sanity. Finally got this sucker to work....audio and video through my HDMI. Stick with it and it will work. I have a Yammy 663 and Panny th-50pz700u. my mod is attached

My sanity is still at risk here, Im sorry to say.

I have:

An Ati HD4670 hdmi out to---4x2 hdmi switch, one hdmi to my Benq PE8720 projector, and one hdmi to my Yamaha RX-V663.

Direct connection: No hdmi-sound. Then via switch, only 2 channels.

I have 7.1 system, tested working.

Then I install: Catal. 8.12, still nothing, then Realtek 2.13, still nothing, then the EDID-override from this site, dont know if that is correct for my 663 and Benq, but THEN reinstalled Realtek 2.13 and could finally choose between 2, 5.1, and 7.1 system.

Still, the Yamaha shows PCM 2CH. By testing, yes only 2.

I change output from 16bit/48Hz to 24bit/192Hz, as both my card, my switch, and my Yamaha supports this. Sound disappears, and PCM is blinking on the Yamaha. I change it back, and no sound at all, untill restart, and 2 ch ok.

What now? I am LOST.

I am running Vista and I solved it!!!!

I followed the instructions given here, used the edid override as a driver for the display.

Then finally my brain started working. I changed the connection and put the hdmi-switch AFTER my receiver. So it is HTPC- hdmi to Yamaha 663, hdmi out to switch, hdmi from switch to Benq 8720. I now have 7.1 PCM at 24/192. Eureka!

You, the override guy, are a Saint!

My set up is DISPLAY-Pioneer Pro 141FD RECEIVER-Yamaha RX V3800 HTPC Graphics- Asus P5E VM HDMI. I have HDMI out to the receiver, and then HDMI to the Display. My problem is everything works great until change input on the receiver. When I go back to the HTPC I get a black screen. I am taking it that the motherboard is dropping the EDID of the display. I have upgraded all the drivers, and still no luck. Anyone have a work around for this?

Has anyone been able to get a TV with a DVI-D input (HDCP enabled) to work using the override? I pasted below the moninfo from my Westy LTV-32w1 and it only shows computer resolutions (eg 1024x768) and not any HDTV resolutions (eg 1280x720) EVEN THOUGH it is HDTV compatible (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i). This is in combination with a 4350 and SR605.

Try disabling the "Ati External Event Utility" in Services (Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Services, double click on Ati External Event Utility and change the Startup type option to Disabled, then reboot). It turns out that I needed to do this on my system after I applied the EDID override in order to survive changing inputs and/or power cycling my surround sound processor.

In that case, can someone PLEASE post their moninfo for a 32" HDMI LCD? Preferably, a 720p and not a 1080p (I don't think there are too many, if any, 32" with 1080p). I'm hoping I can substitute my LCD info with yours in combination with my Onkyo 605 so that I can "fool" Vista.

To do the EDID override, I need to connect both receiver and TV to the computer separately or I can just read the receivers EDID and update the "Generic PnP Monitor" with its inf ?
