OK Guys,

I made progress!!

1. First get the latest 9.1 Catalyst drivers. There is a good chance your card is not yet supported so please search for drivere .inf modding. Try latest "Mobility Modder", it should work, follow the instructions on their site.

2. Install latest Realtek HDMI audio driver (R2.03), and Realtek audio codec (R2.04)

3. Restart your system

4. connect HDMI from your laptop to HDMI 1. Yamaha port (DVD titled). Other Yamaha HDMI ports will only process "Stereo" chanell.

You should see red HDMI title displayed on your Yamaha LCD! If not, disconnect HDMI cable and connect again.

The new driver seems to force Realtek chip to send EDID sygnal to the Yamaha AVR, so AVR gets it is connected to HDMI instead of DVI.

Now getting 5.1 & 7.1 surround through HDMI!

omg, after many installs/reinstalls, registry tweaking and edid .inf writing, turns out it was my receiver's setting - somehow it got switched to analog input instead of hdmi for audio

anyhow, now I don't even need the override method as 9.1 works (and better too - before with the edid override the sound would clip at the start).

Hello, I apologize if I am just an idiot here, but I just can't quite seem to get this setup working. I've tried to read this and other threads regarding all this, but my head is hurting trying to figure this out..

I'm not *quite* sure if this even will work simply with an EDID override or not..

I've got the following setup:

Windows Vista (32bit)
HTPC (Intel G45 based) - onboard HDMI ->
Yamaha RX-V863 Receiver (via HDMI 3 input) ->
Sharp LC-42D64U TV (via HDMI)

The problem is that I cannot get any display from my HTPC when using the receiver in-between. I have no problem when connecting directly to the TV. I understand the issue *seems* to be related to HDCP / COPP / OPM and the receiver as a "repeater" device. Since others seem to be able to use this setup (or similar) with the latest drivers (which I have), I am hoping that this is now only an EDID issue...

I've tried a couple of things to generate the monitor.inf file and then updating the driver on my system, but can't get it working. The last attempt would actually cause the system to blue-screen if the TV was on after the desktop loaded. I'm pretty sure I'm being a dumb-ass and missing something simple here, but would *really* appreciate it if someone could help me with a proper INF file if the two bits of information above are all that is needed..

Chilimost, this is the same issue I have with different hardware. I posted earlier --asus hdmi 780g mobo to sony kds60a2020 - i can run 1920 x 1080 and pass 2 channel audio. When i run the hdmi through my avr (Strda5200es) I get nothing out to the tv no picture or sound. No one on here seemed to be able to offer any advice. I suspect it is the same issue where the monitor edid is "corrupted" by the avr in between. I am going to write my own inf as suggested in this thread (Go to first page ). I just need a little tim eto do this. I also have a complicating factor in that my mon info data for my 5200 is reporting 1280 x 720 as native res, although this is claerly not the case.
No idea why everyone else seems to get picture with 2 channel as the problem when I ( and apparently you) are getting no picture at all. Again no one on here seems to be familiar with the issue. I have considered posting a new thread. Just as some advice post your mon info details as text doc attachments. I will update you if I make any progress on my situation.

Updated mon info files. Can anyone help with what the final file should be? Also how would I apply the inf if my problem is no video output through avr? Would I apply when attache ddirect to HDMI input of TV?

In the interest of being detailed i reran mon info with hdmi direct to avr and NO hdmi out attached. When I did the mon info data is completely different than the last one i run ( with HDMI out attached from avr to tv). Also the desktop was set at 1920 x 1080 (direct to tv) - after running mon info direct to tv and no hdmi out from avr. I switched back to direct to TV and the desktop was resized to 1440 x 480
Can anyone shed some light on this?

I've had a problem using the HDMI out from my 2600 for quite a while now. It has always shown 2-channels and only output stereo in most programs. Fortunately, it did/does work using MPC-HT. I recently purchased Arcsoft TMT and want to fix the problem to use TMT as well. I have run Moninfo on both my Sharp LC46D62U and Onkyo 604 (text files attached). I took the first four blocks of EDID info from the Sharp and the last four from the Onkyo and put them into the text file per instructions. I believe I've done it right with no extra spaces and formatted correctly. Unforunately, it isn't working for me. I still have only LR speakers available over HDMI and in TMT. Could somebody have a look? I've attached my .inf. Have I made an error in setting up the file? Thanks.

Just wanted to add that it only shows/showed 2-channels in the Playback Devices tab of the Sounds applet and only two channels appear in the Configuration utility.

2 channel PCM is all the 2600 supports unless you bitstream 5.1 DD/DTS.

I guess I don't understand what your trying to achieve ToughRow, your card only support 2 ch how does overriding the EDID help you? I am pretty sure the behavior your are witnessing is normal for that series card. If you want to be able to select more than 2 ch in TMT you need a 4XXX series card.

Kemac, the 2XXX cards support DD and DTS multichannel sound not just 2 channel PCM. Like many of those trying to use the EDID override, I am only getting 2 channel PCM through to my Onkyo receiver. It is very likely due to the same EDID problem. I was hoping to have somebody look at my EDID override file and see if it has any flaws in it.

This thread was originally conceived for 4XXX owners not getting any sound with the pre 9.1 CCC drivers and certain AVRs, yes some other have been able to use it to solve other sound issues. Not sure about your specific case however. Those having issue with DD/DTS in this thread with 2XXX/3XXX are having configuration issues outside of the EDID override for the most part.

If your not getting DD/DTS it might be because your player is not passing through DD/DTS bitsteam through from your source material. What OS are you on and are you able to send the DD/DTS test tones from windows?

Does your TV support DD? have you tried connection directly to your set? If your set doesn't support DD/DTS you also need to make sure your not using audio passthrough on your AVR (IE using your TV speakers)


You might also want to check this out http://blogo.biz/?p=24 for some things to check/try.

For TMT you might want to check that thread to make sure you have TMT configuired properly to bitsteam DD/DTS.

One last option if you still want to eliminate your custom inf, try the inf in the first post, if you still have the same behavior your custom file is probably fine.

This thread is the "EDID Override Thread" where the original poster states: "Ok so I have found a way to get around the problem of not recieving sound from the ATI card and would like to share it." While you don't seem to understand, this problem is NOT ONLY RESTRICTED TO 4XXX cards. I really thank you for trying to help but I am asking if somebody could look at my file. Thanks.

I have helped a few others in this thread with DD/DTS passthrough issues after resolving the no sound issue, (Some were 2X/3X users) maybe one of them will help you once you determine your inf is ok.

Your second EDID block (which contains the Short Audio Descriptors) seems fine. I can see 8-channel, 48khz support listed for both DTS (3F 07 C0) and AC3 (17 07 50) as well as LPCM (2 and 8 channel) and AAC.

I'd be interested to see a moninfo report with the HTPC, AVR and TV all connected but so far your issue doesn't suggest an EDID problem. Sorry.

kemac, I only just now got why you were highlighting that AC3 was bitstreamed on the earlier cards. My problem has to be in the program.

Edit: actually, this is incorrect. The EDID information should matter just as much for the 2XXX and 3XXX. Whatever. I still appreciate the help.

Edit again: Of course you are right, the "problem" was with the nut who holds the wheel. It is very unlikely for the EDID issue to be at fault for problems with those earlier cards.

well... now with catalyst 9.1 in WinXP SP3 the HD4850 (with denon AVR 1909) now works OK, hdmi detected, and got sound through AVR, i got 2ch stereo, dolby digital and dts, but i can't find any way of get LPCM 5.1 or 7.1 from pc to the avr
what i need to do for convert true hd/other format in HD from mkv to lpcm and send over hdmi ?
powerdvd 7.3 doesn't work, shows only 2.0/5.1/7.1/spdif format for audio output, in spdif sounds like garbage and in others formats sounds in stereo

Thats right, you have to make sure your passing through the biststeamed AC3 with your software player. If the player converts AC3 to PCM them your only going to get two channels. Thats why your MPC was working but your having difficulty with TMT, the palyer must be configuired to passthrough the AC3 and not transcode it to something else.

After downloading the latest Realtek HD audio driver yesterday, I was finally able to get dolby 5.1 from PC to my Denon 3808CI AV receiver over HDMI cable from Diamond 4870 graphics card. After updating the Realtek HD audio driver, the PowerDVD 8 Ultra program gave me the option finally to output over HDMI using ACM or DTS.
I would like to get true hd sound going across the hdmi interface.
What is limiting the PC to only output dolby 5.1 48khz to my receiver?
Is the EDID info exchange still a problem here or does Window's Vista, these drivers, and powerDVD 8 Ultra still can't deliver TrueHD sound?
All these software and hardware components promise TrueHD sound but it is not happening.

Setup:

Not sure if this has been asked here before, but is it possible that this solution will fix the HDMI dropouts between HTPC's and Projectors that is pretty common?

I don't have an AVR in the loop, and have a direct DVI to HDMI cable to the PJ, but the HTPC will often not recognise the PJ correctly and if any res changes are made, it loses the signal altogether. Apparently this is pretty common.
Shutting down and waiting an hour or so, then restarting will make it work as it re-establishes the EDID information.

Its not possible to bitstream THD with your setup if thats what your trying to accomplish? You can listen to THD as decoded by PDVD into 8 ch LPCM which should be practically identical...

I have always been able to get DD output with VMC and Snap stream but no MC PCM from BLU-RAY play. I have cleaned up all drivers from previous cards, uninstalled TMT, EDIDOverride, and uninstalled (Realtek ATI HDMI Audio Device R2.13 2008/12/31) and installed ATI 9.1. I am now considering the next move. In theory do I need to put the Realtek or anything else back on before I install TMT and try again.
Also I will upload my EDIDOverride to see if someone would be kind enough to see if I made any mistakes.

I had Success, no need to do EDIDOverride in this case. The Realtek driver did the trick along with catalyst 9.1. This made the AVR show MULTI CH PCM but the final step was in the control panel sound applet was to disable the onboard sound. I’m pretty sure looking at non present devices in device manager and clearing out old entries and drivers of previous video cards was good also.

just to check from everyone....
I'm able to get 7.1ch PCM to my yamaha 663, as we can see the DisplayPanel show PCM. by using FFshow, able to get Dolby Digital too..

as Control Panel | Audio, there is sound properties testing. 3 opts supported:
1. DTS Audio
2. Dolby Digital
3. Microsoft WMA Pro Audio

tested all but only DTS & DD able to hear and show in 663 panel.
I'm interested to know whether are we able to get DTS instead of DD/PCM by using MPC-HC or other software or update EDID Override file ??


btw:
1. my powerDVD 8 ultra failed me as always show "has stopped working"
2. WinDVD & TMT Audio option only show up to 8speakers. no others...
