It's not working. I guess there's no hope for this setting. I still cannot see 5.1 settings (see attached jpg)
I've used MPC-HC to test it.
Thanx anyway for your effort. Much appreciated.

tried uninstall with drivercleaner but same problem.... no bitstreaming

everytime i make a change i restart the player an try again

whats TMT3 .17x setup?

edit: googled TMT3 .17x but didnt find anything

Wait! It works with a mkv! I'm using xbmc.
I used to download wmvhd (WVC1) files because they work well with my xbox360. But these files don't do 5.1???? They do when I stream them from my xbox. Very strange.

I probably have to redownload my collection in mkv then .

There could be a problem with the EDID override install. Did your reboot after applying the override? You should definitely see an option for 5.1 as the EDID override has that audio spec.

I meant any beta from .170. Current is .175.

Check your HDMI cables. Otherwise you definitely have a driver installation problem IMO. A full system reinstall, no Realtek drivers, only Cat 10.4 + PDVD 9/10 or TMT3 latest betas should work right away.
hey tulli everytimeeeee i do the uninstall realtek and install ati over it i get the following under sound controllers
ati high definition audio device and high definition audio device <-- which is a microsoft driver...

edit: ZOMG!!!! i has HD audio in MediaPortal................................................. .......
so i gave up on TMT3 and Powerdvd 10 Ultra and played with ffdshow and just tried it in MediaPortal and ZOMG!!!! it works........ i only use TMT3 and Powerdvd if i have a problem in MP but MP works and i'm kool with that... i guess i'll try to fix thoes programs some other time...

the only immediate issue i have now is every so often i guess whenever the refresh rate changes ( i think) the screen blank outs and comes back

Ok, so follow the instructions I outlined before to update the Microsoft HDMI driver to the ATI 10.4 HDMI audio driver.

i have rebooted, even a shutdown eand startup.

But like I mentioned in a post above:

I happy now. redonwloading isn't a issue.
Thanx a million.

hey Tulli would a custom EDID fix my issue with the receiver cutting/flickering out/in my screen?

TV: Sony KDS-60A3000
AVR: Onkyo HT-RC180
Maybe. Post both 256-byte EDIDs so to make the combined EDID override.
I'm not sure if this is an EDID issue, but I thought I would post and see what you guys thought.

Setup:

ATI Radeon 5450 ----- DVI ------- NEC EA231 WMi
same card -----HDMI------- Panasonic G10
Windows 7
ATI HDMI Drivers
CCC 10.4

During bootup the display is in clone mode, then when windows starts the NEC is primary and the G10 is extended desktop. The problem occurs when I turn off the G10 and then turn it back on. This causes the NEC to blink and nothing shows up on the G10. The G10 also disappears from the display manager in CCC and from windows display manager.

Any suggestions?

Happens to me too on my dual monitor setup (Dell 2407WFP + DENON988/Samsung LN46A650) attached to 2 HTPCs with ATI 57xx cards. An EDID override for the DENON/Samsung link fixed it, so maybe it works for you too.

Just capture the full 256-byte real-time EDID of the G10 with Moninfo, create a .inf file and use it to override the EDID of the G10. Reboot and test it.

Just in case, as you will most probably have 2 GenericPnP monitor driver IDs on Device Manager, follow the alternate method outlined in link in my sig. to install it (section 2).
I used moninfo to create a .inf file and used the method in your link to update the driver, but it says: The best driver software for your device is already installed.

EDIT: I had to select the specific file (Have Disk) in order to get it to install. Windows still will not detect the display after turning off and on. I guess I need HDMI detective.

Thanks for all the hard work on this thread.

This seems to work for UK Toshiba 42X3030D, with Onkyo TX-SR608 (using HDMI1 input). Win7 64 with HD3850.

I used the "merge extension block" option within the moninfo menus.

One question, I get DTS audio output from MPC-HC, but within Control Panel > Sounds > Speaker configuration it still has max 2 channels (stereo), is this to be expected????

I'd say "no", but it happens the same for rgkc77 above, and it will affect other players (e.g. WMC or WMP), with which you'd get only 2-channel. So double-check that the EDID override is correctly applied. Even reinstall it and remove any monitor drivers leftovers (see section 2 in link in my sig.).
Ok, I am a bit confused. I bought a Radeon 5450 to bitstream true hd and others. I don't know if I am creating my mkv's incorrectly or not but do these EDID overrides fix this issue. Currently, I have an LG 50pk550 plasma and it and my htpc is hooked up to a sr-507 onkyo.

First of all, I currently use Clown-BD and then mkmerge to create my MKV files.

I have used Media Info to check my files are True-HD or not. I am not sure if the Onkyo has a 507 dts-MA light but I know it has a true-hd light. Playing flicks like x-men 3 or Up! display the dts (I think I have dts-MA on those) but Star Trek shows up as PCM multichannel.

I uninstalled the realtek drivers of my mobo and that allowed me to see the ATI support for other codecs (such as true-hd) because before, it only had one or two. I also reinstalled the ATI HDMI sound drivers.

Do I need to buy Power DVD or some shareware, or can I bitstream true-hd material using xbmc? It seems that there are only four solutions atm, TMT, WinDVD,PowerDVD, and MPC+HC. Am I correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Out of PDVD9 or 10, WinDVD2010 & TMT3 you need ffdshow to bitstream HD audio over ATI 5xxxs. For .mkv files MPC-HC matroska splitter filter is your best choice (Haali can work, but gets trickier). So any Directshow player can bitstream HD audio as long as these 2 filters are engaged only (e.g. with no other audio filters in the way). The easiest solution is to just use MPC-HC (look for dbone1026 guide in his sig. to configure it).

In your case you need no EDID override to bitstream HD audio over your Onkyo, so any driver, Realtek or ATI will do.

Thanks Tulli, MPC-HD worked great! WMP is a little buggy like dbone said. Just need to configure MPC as an external player and would be set.
I recently put together a new HTPC/business system. It's a core i3 (Intel HD Graphics) w/ a GA-H55M-UD2H (Intel H55 chipset) motherboard. I'm running Ubuntu Lucid and Win7 32 bit. I have a NEC 17" LCD connected to the VGA and a Philips 32PF7421D/37 32" LCD TV (1366x768 native) connected to either the PC's HDMI or DVI port. The TV's EDID says it does 1080i, 720p, xga, and a few lower resolutions. I use either extended or single monitor mode (switch back and forth), not clone mode.

On my previous system (w/ an old GeForce4 Ti4600, DVI<->HDMI), I had no problem using nvidia's control panel (in XP) and modelines (in Intrepid/Jaunty via xorg.conf) to customize my resolution (1216x614) to get rid of the TV's overscan. I have tried using Intel's control panel (scaling and/or custom resolutions) as well as Ubuntu's xrandr on the new system's HDMI <->HDMI with the very same TV (which I *know* can handle the reduced resolutions) - but the TV screen always goes blank (and sometimes gets "stuck", i.e. won't come back until I cycle power). Using the DVI<->HDMI I was able to use the scaling feature of Intel's CP - but still NOT the custom resolutions (which I prefer to use). In Ubuntu, the same problem. I add custom resolutions using xrandr, but when I apply them to the port, the screen just goes blank.

I tired using the terrific DTD program recommended in this thread, but when I wrote the new DTD to the registry something got messed up and I had to do a system restore. (Is it not win7/HD graphics compatible?). I can try it again and write the registry entries manually myself, but I'm pretty sure the result will be the same (i.e. blank TV screen).

So my question is....why can't I get the custom resolution to work with this new system when it worked fine on the old one? I thought maybe it was the mobo's HDMI port or the cable, so I switched to the DVI port and a known working DVI<->HDMI cable. The TV can handle the resolution, so what the heck is going on that the TV blanks everytime I apply a custom resolution? What is causing the blanking? Is it hardware-related? (the core i3, the H55, the mobo). Software? (drivers, o/s, etc.).

What I also find interesting is that if I change the resolution to xga - there's no overscan whatsoever. Also, this TV does not have a 1:1 pixel map option, and even in the SAM I don't see any way to reduce the overscan.

Thanks.
The problem is not EDID related, but the TV not being capable of 1:1 pixel mapping. To compensate for overscan the graphic driver must scale the desktop, which was possible on the older Geforce card but not on Intel H55.
Thanks for the reply, Tulli, but I don't think we're on the same page.

In Win7, the Intel driver s/w DOES allow me to reduce the scaling (as long as I use the DVI port - it won't work if I use the HDMI port) to display the desktop fully on my LCD TV. I set the resolution to 1280x720 and use 60/60 scaling. So your comment about the H55 not being able to do scaling seems incorrect? However, if instead I go into custom resolutions, it blanks the TV everytime. (I'm guessing that what is happening is that if the resolution is not specified in the EDID - it just won't send it?)

As for not doing 1:1, yes, I realize that the TV doesn't have a mapping option. But what I found interesting is that if you send it XGA (1024x768), it DOES do a 1:1 (i.e. no overscan). I guess for XGA or lower resolutions, it knows it's a PC video mode, so it displays it at 1:1 - but for any higher resolution it assumes it's a video device connected and thus overscans?

What I'm confused about is scaling versus the custom resolutions. How do these two methods differ? I know that different drivers/companies use slightly different methods to handle overscan, but I'd like to understand this better. For example, when I used a modeline in xorg.conf to correct for the overscan in 720p mode (I used 1216x684), I thought that the graphics card was telling the TV to use 1216x684. Is this not the case? I did not use the nvidia scaling sliders in their app. Are you saying that the nvidia app was indeed scaling based on the modeline, and that it was still sending 1280x720 to the TV?
Woohoo! It worked. I created a DTD for 1216x684, modified the driver's .inf, and re-installed the driver. It added the custom resolution to the list of resolutions and when I applied it to my LCD TV - it did not go blank. The screen/desktop looks perfect (no overscan). Very pleased. Unfortunately, any resolution > 720p makes it go into "1080i mode", thus I can't even use the native resolution of 1366x768p.

Now to figure out a way to get Ubuntu to do it...

Sorry if this was a bit off-topic, folks. Wasn't sure where to post it.

For those interested, I used some of the info here

http://software.intel.com/en-us/arti...ntel-graphics/

and the DTD calculator software by Clever Tech.
Ok, what I meant is this: a typical LCD (i.e. a fixed pixel display device) will have one set of video timings to sync at its native resolution/"refresh rates", which is stored in the first video descriptor in the EDID base block. If the display device overscans at its native video timings the graphic driver must provide a desktop scaling (or resizing) feature to compensate for overscan. ATI & Nvidia drivers provide this feature (Intel H55 driver does for DVI but not HDMI from what you say).

So as for "custom resolutions", they only make sense where native video timings are not properly detected by the driver (which is not your case), and an EDID override can certainly help there.

You could manage (congratulations!) to get it to scale, but not at the native video timings of your display device (1366x768<->720p@60hz). The Intel driver should provide this feature.

This is not 1:1 as the native resolution of your TV is 1366x768. 1:1 always implies no overscan but the converse is not always true!

Your TV will overscan over its HDMI port and won't over its DVI or VGA port (if present).

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd share my .inf for the Sony DH800. This is just the EDID information from the AV Receiver, I didn't need to add my monitor specifically as the receiver cannot support the native resolution of my Dell 2007WFP (1680x1050). This will just expose all of the formats that the receiver can shunt without the graphics card trying to be clever.

You can also find it on my personal site (see sig).

Thanks RandomFoe and Tulli for finding this out! Beer is most certainly owed!

@Tulli :

Hi, sorry to add to your already immense forum workload but I have an issue that I can't find a solution for and wondered if you could help. Also a quick apology for the size of this post but I figure the more information the better.

I have a HTPC (Gigabyte MA78G-DS3H with onboard ATI HD3200) connected to an Onkyo 705 amp which is then connected to a Samsung LE46A756 TV, all via HDMI. I used to use Vista Ultimate, Haali, ffdshow, PowerDVD and MediaPortal and everything was great. DD and DTS output from all applications.

I have recently "upgraded" to Windows 7 Ultimate and although PowerDVD 8 Ultra (set-up to use AC3/DTS passthru) still gives DD/DTS output nothing else does. All I now get is 2 channel PCM from Windows, Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic and MediaPortal.

I initially had Catalyst 10.1 (I think) with Haali and ffdshow. As I had problems with video I then installed the MPC codecs (as per the MediaPortal install instructions). Trying to fix this sound issue I then uninstalled ffdshow. As this didn't help I then tried installing AC3filter. Still no good. I installed the Realtek HD audio driver, still the same. I installed all versions of Catalyst up to and including 10.5, still no good. During this time the properties for the HDMI device had DD/DTS/WMA in the supported formats, but only 2 channels.

I read this thread and created a new monitor file using MonInfo, this made no difference.

My last change was to uninstall Haali, Catalyst, Realtek drivers and ac3filter. Reboot. Run a drive cleaner. Reboot. Re-install Catalyst 10.5, Realtek drivers and Haali one at a time re-trying between each one. The HDMI device now only has Dolby as a supported format.

None of this has made any difference. I simply cannot get anything other than 2 channel PCM over the HDMI from Windows 7 (only PowerDVD) and it's starting to frustrate me. I really don't want to re-install the HTPC again using Vista so was wondering if you could help?

Thanks for your time.

Bob.

AFAIK PDVD simply ignores Windows audio settings. Have you manually set the HDMI audio device to 5.1/7.1?

Have you already cleaned up any greyed-out monitor driver on Device Manager? If not follow uninstall instructions from link in my sig. (check the option to delete driver files if available). Uninstall current GenericPnp monitor driver too. Then reboot.
