Hi Olive friends,

does anybody of you recognize the following software issue in 4.1.9:

1.Open Maestro.
2.Choose artists.
3. A list which is not filtered will displayed.
4. In case of filtering the list by pushing the "A" Button artists beginning with "The A......" are not displayed. The last entry under "A" is also missing.

In my case the artists "The Alan Parsons Project" and "Avril Lavigne" are missing in the filtered list.

The bug only occures by apllication of the filter "A". I call it the "The-Bug". In one of the older releases I had the same problem. But than it was fixed.

Best regards

Martin

Sharp...
I can confirm this issue you have. Only I don't miss the last entry under "A".

Please report it to Olive.

No...
But...
When I had replaced the hard disk with a another one I had this freeze many times, but it almost disappeared with a new disk.
It frooze after ripping and displaying the amount of good tracks, and then going to sleep.

But I never leave my olives on standby for more than a few hours.

Do you have Opus running on your pc? If so, that might interfere. Close it and see if that helps.

Quick confirm:

There is no way on Maestro to change the Genre on the 4h?

I had a musica and never powered it down. It ate two hard drives and a mother board.

My new 4HD ate a hard drive the first 6 weeks with a "bad" file.

I think in that instance I was loading up the machine via my pc and ripping on the Olive at the same time. WE don't know, but I don't do that anymore.

But given my problems with Olive over the years I have installed some new protocals. Perhaps its overkill but computers are not bullet proof and this is a computer.

After many additions or deletions to the hard drive I make sure there are no services running and then power it down.

If I put a few hours in ripping or editing I back it up over nite. Turn off power saving and it goes quicker. With only 200 GB (all losses flac and 24 bit) it just takes 14 hours to back up. After all the issues I have had in the past I find the machine is so far happier and I sleep better knowing its backed up.

Currently I have about 600 Cd's on my diningroom table getting things reorganized and reboxing them. When I got my new 4hd my musica back up did not organize things very well. Not all files came over complete in the titles and any merge I did to combine multi discs into one title did not do well. They are mislabled. So when I put on David Bowie "changes" instead "Gene Genie" comes on but its lablel as "Changes.

IN addition, I had songs loaded with the same title. Say one was a studio cut and another a live version. When the studio verson was done playing, the live verson would come on at the same time (say a studio cut was 5 minutes and a live was 5:30, the last 30 seconds would play of the live cut).

So lots of deletions and reloading many older favorite standards.

Its very time consumer all of this and its sort of a hobby. Its about the music but I have to make sure Im not "working" on instead of listening!

When I do a back up from my 4HD it takes about 14 hours and I do shut off the "Power saving function.

I have about 200GB of losses content.

How long does it take some of you who have ripped a Terrabyte or more?

Far too long of course.
So Olive has to do some work on the backup/restore process.

I do it my way.

Which is.........?????
My olive shows an update 4.2.0 with the message that the backup process has changed, but when i tell him to update it says that already has the latest version.

I contact my local dealer about my olive problems, they send me the procedure to do a recovery process, now my olive is dead.

After doing the process, olive cant pass the initial screen "The system is loading..."

In short (I have written often about this):
I rip & import new stuff on my second Olive. After a month I take out the hard disk, and write all the changes to my backup disk, which itself is an complete image of the Olive disk. This means, installed in the Olive it boots with all the music.
After that, I repeat the procedure for my first Olive.
Writing only the changes takes about an half hour.
The whole procedure takes about two hours. I take the backup disk to my office, and go home with the old backup of two months ago.

If and when Olive offers an incremental backup, I will consider that.

Just did twice.

Thats above my pay grade.

But I get just writing "changes". That makes sense.

Thanks for the reply.

Something is really coming up...

"The new software version 4.2.0 does no longer support backups created with previous software versions. Please make a new backup once software version 4.2.0 is installed."

Maybe it is also wise to make a backup before software version 4.2.0. is installed

Thanks Marc.
The missing last entry in the filtered list has something to do with the number of entries. I send my report to Olive two weeks ago.

Hi Martin,

Is that number > 64? That's what I call the 64-bug. Maybe (MAYbe) they can fix it in the upcoming 4.2.0.

I updated my 06HD this morning to 4.19 and am trying to do a backup with external USB drive: same one that worked previously (FAT32 format)

so far it is stuck on 0% update: after 2 hours: also tried a different hard drive with same results: it recognizes the drive but I don't see the 0% change

Did the same for me. I stopped, then rebooted the machine and it backed up as it should.

Got a disc stuck. An old Todd Rundgren CD that had some funky software on it. Forgot about it Tried loading it up and it won't come out.

I tried what the manual said: Boot machine off, turn off the power on the back, hold down the eject button when turning it back on.

Not doing it.

Any other ideas? Perhaps its been covered on the hundreds of posts but its a long long read! I'll call tomorrow but I'd like to have it covered before. Thanks in advance

What "Not doing it"?

It should ask to load a recovery cd.
BTW: did you import the Tod cd, or rip it? What do you mean with "won't come out"? Is it stuck in the Olive? (No wonder you cant put a recovery cd in the same spot. )

The disc is stuck in the machine. Its not doing anything.

It won't eject.

I don't want a recovery disc in the machine. It works fine.

Just want the damn CD out of the machine!

I had exactly the same problem after inserting a disc the Olive didn't like, it might have been a SACD only disc, I followed the following instructions and the disc came right out.

First power down your Olive 4 completely by pressing the green Standby On/Off button until the touchscreen is black. Then switch off the main power on the back on the unit. Hold down the EJECT button and flip your main power switch back on. Continue to hold the EJECT button through the boot-up procedure. The CD should eject once the Olive 4 has booted up.

Best,

Best,

Norm,

Thank you. I tried it and it did not work. Machine works just fine otherwise.

THey instructed me to do as you said but also hold down the power button while the machine reboots but when the black screen comes back on with just the Olive logo, release the power button but hold the Eject button down. Problem is when you release the power button, the machine recycles itself again. I tried it like you said but that did not work. They also had me press the eject button 5-7 times quickly. That too did not work.

I really don't want to ship this thing out AGAIN! Had this machine since April and already it was back for a bad hard drive. Grrrrrr!
Maybe this trick will do it: if you press both the OK button and the Play button while it powers up, It should ask for a recovery cd. Maybe, it will throw out any other cd it finds in th process.
And of course, don't feed it a recovery cd, just restart it.
(Sorry about my confusion what the eject button should do when powering up).

BTW: All my cd-drives in the pc have little holes to force the eject, the Olive should have something like it. I did not find it in my Opus 4.

Hi,
I have a problem with backing up the olive. For the first time I tried to do it last night the classic way, bought a 2terabyte drive, plugged it in ans picked the back up option. Waited for couple hours but the back up process still stayed on 0%. Can someone tell me if i'm doing something wrong? Am I supoose to format the hard drive first?
This one is for Nalod.

When opened, my Opus 4 looks a bit more naked, and shows clearly an eject button at the left of the cd drive...

When closed, the button can still be seen:

Sorry, it's a bit vague, but I'm sure you can see it shimmering.
This one is sharper, albeit not much better.

So, try to find it in your Olive, and try te push it, with a match or so.

good luck
Marc
