Good question and one I have yet to tackle.

I have not even tried yet to delete some favorites I tried adding and failed with.

I have tried typing in an url for a station but to no vail. An old favorite from the MUSICA was "powerstation budda" and I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Im not sure many of the faithful here listen to the internet stations. Very little discussion.

If you find the answer please share it.

For now, "Radio Paradise" seems to satisfy most of what I need online when I am lazy and just want music.

FYI
Just asked Olive this:

Quote:

Maestro shows a outdated preview screen in Classical. it has fields for Scene, Act/Part, Act/Part-Total that are displayed in the preview screen but NOT on the Olive itself. In fact the preview screen does not reflect the real Olive screen. This is so for a long time and I find it's time to mention it.
Please update the classical preview screen in Maestro + remove the fields. OR update the Olive screen to reflect these fields, which are very helpful with opera's.

regards,
Marc

If that is the address to put in the Olive, you'll have a problem: there is no Underscore.
You also can't find albums with the title cd_xxxxxx, which is the name olive gives when it does not recognize the music on the ripped cd.

So, that's something to ask Olive.

Been trying everything you've advised, still no luck. Backing up will not start. I've asked Olive for help. Any fresh ideas?
I've tried rebooting, restoring fct settings, unplugging....

Having the same issue, so I emailed Olive. They told me to unplug the unit for an hour and then try again. No luck. They also told me that they are working on a patch for the problem. I just responded back to them, so no word on the patch yet, but will report back what I learn.

Olive advised me to preformat the hd in fat32...haven't tried yet because i would lose my previous backup, which I'm reluctant to do because that's my only backup
alternative would be to spend 100+$ for a second hd

I think you have an external HD that the Olive does not recognize: I assume with 4.2 FW it would give you that error message

or the new FW may resolve the issue: hopefully

more: It may not be possible to reformat such a large drive to fat32: a new one is a better path: I can suggest some specific models that work for me

It's always wise to keep 2 backups. What if a powerfailure happens in the mids of a backup???

I did a backup with 4.20 fw: started at 9pm: finished at 4am

the screen said backup completed successfully

However when I pressed OK: I was unable to get the screen to change

unplugged USB HD cable ( heard HD stop) but screen still unresponsive

I rebooted the machine: seems OK

before you upgrade to 4.20 it gives you a warning that earlier backups are not compatible and you must do a new backup

not exactly sure what incremental backup means: it gives you a running total on the screen as to its progress (in addition to %): that may be all
post #1873 of 2911
There are roughly 3 kinds of backups, a full backup (all backups < 4.2.0), an incremental backup, and a differential backup.
If you do a new backup after a full backup, and only take into account what is changed since the last full backup, you do a differential backup. If you only take into account every change since the previous backup, you do an incremental backup.
(I hope I did not mix these up).

So, Mark, the next backup should be much shorter.

Marc

that is what I thought too: but when I connect an external HD: the only option is incremental backup

Just to be sure, I am starting a new (incremental) backup now on the same external HD: will see if this one is quicker

also I notice that after update to 4.2.0 (or any version) the Olive still says a new fw update is available: hit update and it says latest installed: this keeps happening: perhaps auto update notice should be turned off?
^^^^

you are correct: the Olive took 20 seconds and now says backup complete

and when I hit OK the screen responded

so incremental backup is finally implemented

"INcremental back up"..........

That means it adds/deletes changes instead of rewriting the whole hard drive of music?

If so, that would be great!

That would make backing up far more frequent.

Does anyone know if the unit backup Playlists?

yes it does backup playlists

and yes incremental seems to be as you describe
post #1878 of 2911
As it backups the zDB (which is the sqlite database of your music) it will always contain the playlists, as these are just a few entries in the database.
Olive keeps track of the times you play something, and this will be updated in the zDB also, so the zDB is changed every time you do something with your Olive.

I don't know how deletes are handled by the incremental backup. At least that is something to test, just as restoring the whole thing.

I will have to remind Olive that I want to participate in testing new software updates. My Olive keeps telling me that I already have the latest version. (I presume that after 4.2.0. it will stop showing new updates that don't exist)

Hi Marc,
I've been using the WD Element 2TB before. Any advise on HD's that work for you would be welcome indeed.
Thanks Tim
Hi Tim,

My advice is worthless, because I don't use Olive's backup problem... err... solution anymore.
But I think that any drive with enough space ought to work - anyhow from rel 4.2.0 onwards.

Hi,

anybody tested the compliance of 4.2.0 beta whith XBMC ?
With 4.2.0 beta and XBMC 11.0 the copying of files from olive server to an external harddisc via xbmc filemanager is not logner possible. XBMC shows an error message.

Does anybody can confirm this ?

I just purchased a 4HD
Noticed the only instruction included is a brief Quickstart manual
Is there a more robust version to describe the many capabilities and commands?

Can't seem to find instructions on downloading IPhone app
Any hints

Much appreciated

Gosh... I got a nice booklet of about 80 pages for my Olive Opus No.4. But you can download a much bigger guide with 132 pages for your 04HD and 03HD:
http://downloads.olive.us/userguides...user_guide.pdf

But I guess you call that a brief Quickstart manual.

Is 4.2.0 out? I checked update and it gave me a message that under 4.2.0 a new backup would be needed. However, when I checked my update it said I have the latest, yet it displays 4.1.9. Any ideas?

I think its the new XBMC

I am on 4.1.9 and i just wanted to copy some albums to my mac. When i imported them into iTunes it did not work.
Not related to the above, but I just found an iTunes app called MediaConnect that makes it very easy to steam from your Olive to your iOS device (iPhone in my case). If you have an Airport Express connected to a remote stereo, you can also play your Olive directly to that stereo
without the need for an Olive 2 (you do need the Airport Express however).

Some in my family have sizable iTunes libraries and. my music is on the Olive. Sp now we can easily play from either library by using the above app (for the Olive) and Apple's music app for the iTunes library. Very easy, very cool!

I went back to XBMC 10.1 and the copy from the Olive works again
