"Official" Olive Thread Opus 4, Opus 6, Melody 2, Olive 2, Olive 4/ 4HD, 06HD - Page 90

OMG, i did some testing and the sound quality of the O4HD is far better than my new sooloos meridian MC200 :-(

Its more dump not so quick not so "in the face" not so detailed and sharp, this is a very bad news for me, as i loved the software of the Meridian. The O4HD software is sooooo bad and oldschooled in comparism and maestro hangs often. Also the support is very bad as theres no more importdealer in germany. And what about warranty...mhhhh

This is a mess, which one to keep now ?!

Flo

Flo:

I just did hear back from Olive:

Hello Mark,

Sorry we didn't get back to you sooner. We're definitely not dropping support for the HD music servers. Customers can reach our support team directly at care@olivehd.com.

Best regards,
Olive Team

Hope this helps: what do you think of the Meridian interface and operation? how does that compare with the Olive?
The sooloos interface is like IOS7 vs. Win 95 !
Absolutely gigantic, so many options like a real cool playlist option a really impressive swim and focus function, very detailed id3 tags and therefore a lot of sort functions. Very stable, very pleasant cover flow...need i explain more...?!

But in the end the sq should be the most important fact....or not?!....such a hard decision..f&smile.gif:!

Of course you need to explain more!
I would never buy any music server without the options for classical music as an Olive has.
Part from outcries like that it is so nice, so beautiful or has such a better interface, which I hear so often, I never have read something more specific or detailed to convince me about Soloos.

Personally, i wouldn't bother about the sound quality. There are many ways to improve that.
Also, Maestro never hangs. It occasionnaly looses control, but refreshing is all it needs than. If it was really so unreliable, I couldn't have done over 2500 albums with it.

I am curious about the Meridian sound quality report:seems odd there would be such a difference

must be nice to have both systems in the same room!
I have both here, so just come ! :-)

Just talked to a friend today who supposed La Rosita Equipment.
It indeed has in some forum boards a really good reputation, do you know this company or products?

It is using Itunes but without the usual sq limitations, so very interesting :-)

Thanks Flo,

This video indeed reveals some more information about the functionality of the Sooloos system, but it does not toch on classical issues:
- dividing albums into compositions
- merging (part of) albums into compositions
- searching by composer
- searching by artist (if filled correctly)
My wishlist:
- searching on conductor, orchestra, choir.
Olives have a classical genre, apart from the others. I'm always curious to see how other brands handle the classical part of the music, and although the Olives don't fill every need I can imagine, they come close.

So, does this mean what it appears, that being Olive is no longer selling the HD music servers?

Tried to order an Olive 3HD on September 21st. My order was accepted but account not charged. I've tried several times to contact Olive via there customer service messaging but did not get a response after the initial response from them.

Is Olive still functioning as a company?

Tried a number of buy buttons with Chrome running under Win 8.0 and got same response.

not good: I sent another PM, but don't expect any satisfactory response

I don't see how the Olive One will be a success if they don't support their current products

my opinion only...

Hello,

I have serious doubts too that Olive will be able to confirm his plans with the Olive One... and the other devices too.

I hope that the indiegogo-story was not the beginning of the end of the Olive company...

I am sure the Olive one will never be shipped till end of november 2013 ... perhaps 2014 ? Wait and see!

I never liked companies doing crowdfunding... If they take this road usually they were on the road to hell anyway before ....

Mark, your opinion is always on the 'mark'. (LOL)
As for me, since I've added a wireless repeater next to the Olive (I operate it wireless), I've noticed more stability. Still some glitches - often, the cover art does not show up when I first attempt to rip a CD, so I have to eject it and and try again. I'm about 2/3rds of the way through importing my CD collection. This has been a major effort (UGH) but once it is done, I can kick back and enjoy the marvelous sound of the Olive.
My Olives never hesitate to find a cover art, but almost never the right one.
When I change the album title, mostly appending a box number, the false cover art disappears to make way for the ubiqutous Olive logo.
I don't mind. My scanner is my friend.

Btw I'm busy finding a way to update freedb. No ripper I use nor the Olive itself is capable to send metadata to freedb.org
Anyone here that does it successfully?

All of the discussion about legacy products is fine, but this company is out of business. I tried again today to 'buy' each of their products, from IE 9 this time, and in each case selecting buy now returns me to the home page. Emails to customer service go unanswered.
To be honest I actually got a response from Olive customer support this week. I asked a question about disc formatting. rolleyes.gif
post #2697 of 2913
I just asked them why buying via their site is no option anymore.
Maybe superfluous? I hope.

@berni: nice, so, what did they tell you?

Marc
That with the new software , you dont have to do anything . Olive makes the formatting for you. Will try out this week, when I get a new drive.

I have already posted in the introduction section but thought I would add it here also:

Hi All

Nice Forum...

I came across this site after my Olive 04HD player started playing up and did the usual google search. Very interesting read.

My symptoms:

Playing an album and then a track began play the same section over and over like an LP could on a record deck. I got no response from pressing buttons and had to pull the plug.

The follow day it struggled to reboot and when it did I tried to play an album again and the jumping issue began again.

I then had the white screen and eventually a File Check progress bar appeared...this took about 1.5 hours to complete but still not getting beyond the White Screen of death...

Kind Regards

Darrel
