Hi,
I have a 46" Sony Bravia LCD and the Panasonic SC-PT250 home theater in a box. Unfortunately the Panasonic does not have digital audio in nor HDMI so I am wondering if it is possible to keep the 5 speakers + subwoofer and buy a decent receiver to hook them up to.
So far I have used my laptop to watch HD movies via VGA and the picture is great but I have had to put up with Dolby ProLogic which really does not utilize the surround system at all...
Can you tell me if it is possible to get, say, an Onkyo receiver-- I have read much about them here, and hook it up to the Panasonic speakers? They are @ 3ohms I think so I do not know if they would be compatible (details are at http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?...&view=detailed). I'd appreciate if you could suggest an alternative receiver too. I am located in Eastern Europe if that makes a difference to model availability.
If this can be done, I could get a Creative X-Fi Audigy Express sound Card and output 6-channel analog audio to the receiver (even decoded DTS-HD for example), correct? I would choose this way because SPDIF cannot handle the new high-definition audio formats and I do not have an HDMI output on the laptop either. Are there any other cheaper external sound card which could output 6 analog channels?
I don't know if the Onkyo is necessary in my case because it has many inputs and I do not plan on connecting multiple devices--just the laptop audio and video and the Panasonic THiB's DVD player. I'd like to utilize my surround speaker system. A lower-end receiver with these capabilities should do fine I think.
Please advise me what I could do about this case.
Thanks,
Stan
