I am suspicious that a THX setting is present without the actual effect on primary and secondary color points and whatever else the THX preset provides. You'd need a good meter and appropriate calibration software to check these. Needless to say, if the THX settings were working on the image this would worth the risk, IMO.

If you clearly color saturation and other picture changes when engaging the THX that is hopeful.

wow this would be good if the firmware would allow the THX setting to work and the 16 step lens aperture setting to be accessed as i feel the 3 step is way to coarse

Confirmed that the 16 step aperture works.

Confirmed that the THX setting works, i.e. the picture changes when the THX setting is chosen and it looks pretty good. Whether it works properly or not, I have no way of knowing.

Could you describe the differences you see?

I'm tempted to try it just because I was planning to buy a new projector this week anyway. Link to RS20 firmware?

Noah - I haven't had time to play with it. I did notice that selecting the THX mode changed the picture... can't say yet whether for better.

Can anyone explain what the pixel mapping does and how to adjust it if needed? The manual is pretty vague on this...Thanks...Al

I have finally got around to calibrating my HD350 using an i1 and HCFR. With no CMS, I only calibrated the grayscale. I have attached the numbers in word format as I can't attach an excel file and would welcome any comments.

unfortunately my laptop is windows 7 and you need xp;or vista to do the update. I even chedked with a csr at jvc. Would anyone have any suggestions how to get around this. Also has anyone now had enough experience with the results to see if it is worth it. Thanks

Hi!

I'm the owner of a used HD350 (with warranty) and I need help with a setup problem. I'm projecting from a tabletop and I'm trying to adjust the image's position with the lens shift. Somehow the image is way too low and I can't get it any higher (or lower), the system doesn't seem to respond to the input on the remote or the pannel. The image will move horizontally. I read the manual a few times and couldn't find the answer. What is going on? Thanks for helping!

I have had mine shelf mounted and on a coffee table and now ceiling mounted and never had a problem (knock on wood) with lens shift eigher horizontal or vertical. For what its worth sounds like either some kind of gear problem I would contact the seller if just bought it or JVC for warranty service. I would not fool with it if you are covered by warranty. Just my .02

What part are you having difficulty with? It should work with Windows 7 as well. I was able to flash it going to the RS20 firmware and then back to the RS10 firmware. Initially I did experience driver failure but once you install the loader, you will have to have the PC find the driver automatically and it should work for you.

As for the firmware, it does work. Initially once I installed it, I had a red-like flicker coming from my unit. I rebooted it and all was ok, the menus were of the RS20 with the 16 step control aperture. I did not attempt to bother CMS settings, but I did play with THX. After watching for a few minutes I eventually flashed it back to the proper RS10 firmware. Perhaps one of the more experienced guys should give it a go, I'm still a newb with these things.

I contacted JVC and they thought my lens shift range in one direction had locked the other. That isn't the case no matter what I do vertical LS won't work for me. I think I'll send the projector for warranty and I'd better do it now since it expires soon.

Something similar happened to me. Try to find the exact middle that you can move it in the horizontal plane and then see if you can move it vertically. That worked for me, though I briefly panicked.

I spend about 10min trying to find the middle and shift up and down. No luck for me so I contacted a service center and I already sent the projector for repair. I was hearing the lens shift mechanism but the image wasn't moving.

I can't because I'd NEVER use it. Display only native 1:1 pixel mapping unless you absolutely can't get it set up any other way. Avoid pixel mapping at all costs, except, of course, if you're using an anamorphic lens. Then you use the vertical stretch feature.

I have a question regarding the change of the lamp. Is there any reason not to buy a new original bulb only instead of the whole module. That's about half the price. I'm just thinking about problems like fire hazards and damages to the projector. Since it's an original bulb made by the original manufacturer I would think it would be risk free. Also is it hard to replace? Thanks.

I just joined the HD350 club. Found an open box at a Magnolia Best Buy with 600 hours on it. It looks beautiful. It's hooked up to a Pioneer VSX-1016, Direct TV HR21, and an OPPO BDP-93

I haven't calibrated it but so far:

HD sports are decent.
HD programming looks outstanding.
Standard def DVD looks very good.
Blu-ray DVD is incredible.

Now I'm looking into how to calibrate it. Any suggestions?

I was having an issue with my RS10 (vertical pink band on left edge). I sent it to JVC in California to have them look at it and give in an estimate. They said that I needed the optical block replaced, and it would be 3463.89 plus tax! My projector is 30 months old with 1100 hours on the bulb. I know that it is out of warranty, but I feel they should really cover this repair. This is something that just should not happen. I am waiting to hear back if there is anything they can do, because it just is not work repairing at that price.

Anybody else have this issue occur and fixed out of warranty?

My RS20 has the same issue and it is out of warranty. It seems this is a problem that occurs around the 1100-1200 hour mark. JVC should recall these bad optical blocks and try to maintain their customer base before its too late.

I wish I used the projector more and had the issue come up under warranty. I am hoping that they will repair it under warranty ( I have left a few messages).

Wow.

That's just insulting regarding the price. It's like they are just trying to piss you off. I mean, the street price of the HD250 is like $1,000 less (which means JVC is selling it to the dealers at less than that), and the optical blocks between them should be identical.

At the very least, if the 'labor' is really the difference here (doubt it), JVC could at least offer a new HD250 unit to you at dealer cost perhaps.

You said it is 18 months old isnt the JVC PJ warranty for 2 years except for the bulb. Or I could be mistaken.

Yes, you are correct. I should have said I am hoping that they will still cover it.

A warranty is a warranty and if that part is covered as it should they should not have even given you an amount. As long as you give them proof of purchase and probably registered you still have 6 months left on the warranty and they eiher should repair it or replace it with one of equeal quality or repair it with a new block or even a good refurbished one of the same model . You also should not have to wait an unreasonable amount of time for any decision as th how they are handeling the issue. Again I stand corrected if I am incorrect.
