Thanks man, I was thinking the same thing.

I'm having a little remote trouble. I'm using a MCE remote and when i hit the back button, it is not going to the previous menu/window. This is really driving me nuts since it is the last thing keeping my setup from being perfect... Any clue why this would happen? I end up having to hit the Esc key on my keyboard or using my mouse which is super annoying when everything else can be done with a remote...

Did you configure MediaPortal remote section to tell it you're using a MCE remote? The back button works perfectly for me. Does your back button work in other applications?
post #154 of 1429
Yup... All the other buttons on it work in MP and the back button works in other applications. As I understand it, the back buttton on the remote is supposed to be the same as hitting the backspace button on the keyboard. Strange thing is that I got the backspace button to do what I want, but the back button is unresponsive I MP...
post #155 of 1429
Not positive, but it seems to me that the "back" function in MediaPortal is the ESC key.

Turn on logging for MCE remote, and then look at the Mediaportal.log file(I think). When you push back on your remote it should register as a remote code in the logs. You can then edit the custom Microsoft MCE.xml remote file to use the code that your remote is sending.

However, it's odd that your MCE remote's back button doesn't work out of the box.

Hi

Just installed this and followed the guide......I'm using FFSHow for regular DVD's and the CoreAVC codecs for MKVs.

When I go to "Watch Movies", I can see the prepopulated movies from my folder (some of them with coverart) but when I click on "Play", the screen goes blank for 2 secs and then back to the same screen. It seems MP doesn't know what to play the movies with!

From the MP config window, I can play the movies fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

- MediaPortal_1.0_RC4
- no tv plugins
- moving-pictures-0.6.2
- mpchc_x86_v1.2.908.0_MPCVideoDec

I have followed your very well written instructions on how to install Media Portal to the letter and I cannot get my MP screen to look right.

My screens display are off center, When I select a category (say movies) see attachement 4.

During my configuration, when i select the option (listed below) in the General tab, my screen looks like attachment 1 and i can move around the options only by scrolling with my mouse because anytime i move my cursor anywhere inside the screen area, i get a blank black screen.

When i uncheck (Start with basic home screen) , i am able to move around my mouse but the screen as you can see from attachment 4 is offcenter.

I also want to my movies to appear as filmstrip not listed as shown on attachment 5...how do i go about doing that.

Options Enabled:
-Start with basic home screen;
-Start MediaPortal in fullscreen mode;
-Use alternative fullscreen Splashscreen;
-Keep MediaPortal always on top;
-Autostart MediaPortal on Windows startup;
-Hide file extensions like .mp3, .avi, .mpg,...;
-Enable animations / transitions;
-Allow S3 standby although wake up devices are present.
-Log verbosity (logging level) to Warning (for performance reasons).

I'm about to switch from VMC to MP and will be following this guide.

Can someone elaborate on the ffdshow install? Are there instructions to configure the audio and video decoders?

thanks for the guide, i have this set up as well -

has anyone tried getting emulators for video games working in media portal? there is a plugin but i was wondering if anyone has tried it, and if they have had success

also, i notice in screenshots the main menu is off to the side, mine is in the middle. how did you get it to move over like that? im sure i just missed a step somewhere

edit: one more question - i see a lot of questions asking about iso playback - if taking the time to copy the iso off a disc and storing it locally, why not just mkv'ize the movie and play directly in MP?

thanks again!

People want the menus and special features?

Maybe another Vista new to me issue. I was messing with the DPI (I think that is right) to make my browser mroe readable at 9 ft, anyway once I got MP installed I am having some slight issues with the way it looks. I tried changing back to the standard 96dpi and even reloaded the Streamed skin to no avail.

You can't see the entire text when you select movies or tv, it just says "WATCH YOUR". Also, my weather icon up top is blank.

I really look forward to when I can start answering questions instead of just asking for help.

Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Actually.. the main reason to keep a blu ray in ISO format (DVD no one keeps in ISO.. everyone rips to file structure) is to:

1. Keep Blu Ray format - The blu ray format is ONLY held intact as a whole disk. You not only get the menus but you also get access to all the audio tracks and sub-titles without having to remux/demux and/or re-encode.

For me the audio tracks were a big deal as most blu rays dont put the Hi-Def audio as the first track.. thus your only going to get AC3. You could demux and extract the hi-def audio track then remux it back to a MTS file, I dont want to take the time for that.. storage is cheap...

I think you'll get a LOT of dispute on THAT one

I haven't used MP for about a YR, have been using xbmc but they are still having issues with there HD playback..
Couple of questions..

I currently use NFO files for all my movies (from xbmc) does anyone know if moving pictures can read them into MP,

Is there a "tag" feature to show that the movies are in HD or SD.. so when im browsing my library i can see what in bluray or SD

[UPDATE]

Fixed my "getting black screen on video playback" by coming across another thread over at MP forums......

Apparently, it was the ATI display driver that was the cause. I downgraded back to Catalyst 8.5 and my video playback is fine now (little stuttering on 1080p MKV's but I'll figure that out).

The time it takes to rip out just the video and the best audio track is not time consuming. I would bet it takes just as long as making the iso.

Why would you want all the extras and more than one audio track? I rip the main movie and the best audio track and convert it to .flac to play in any player. Works great and is very simple.

Making iso's and trying to get them to mount and play seems like more work to me.

The thread on Media Portal forum refers to a plugin and the plugin happens to have support for Virtual CloneDrive. I have done a fresh install of Media Portal, and the plug-in isn't nessessary for enabling VCD support.

There are instructions on the main post, but basically you only need to install the DLL files and then point Media Player to the VCDmount.exe file in the Daemon Tools configuration.

1. Download this zip file which includes Core.dll and WindowPlugins.dll

Basicly its not a good idea to tell users to replace their MediaPortal files. As there is high risk when the patch you are providing is not based on the same source code version what user has installed. That can break almost anything and cause unnescessary trouble for the user(s) and most likely false error reports.

So it would be wise to tell users what version of MediaPortal they can "safely" patch with your binaries.

I guess its a good reason -
i didn't think of that , probably because my ideal setup is one where would sit down, and then when the lights go down, the movie just starts like in a real theater.

does anyone know the answers to my other questions above - regarding the emulators? i tried the my emulators plugin but it seems to just exit media portal when i try to use it. also, when i got around that, it just caused MP to crash after exiting the emulator.

Another question when playing movies.....

-How do I skip to the next scene or bring up the main movie menu while the movie is playing? I'm using the mouse and do not see any user interface when the movie is playing fullscreen.

Hi everyone. MP is totally new to me, in fact so are HTPCs. I've just completed my first one ( by complete i mean I've had this computer with several types of gear inside it and tinkered with HTPC stuff for about a year but have now settled on the final configuration). So, I am totally a Vista virgin, having upgraded yesterday, and an MP one too, having discovered it today. Here is what I want to do, can anyone tell me if this program will do all of this?

Play DVD discs, play Bluray discs, rip and copy DVDs, record from my satellite receiver via Hauppauge PVR 150, play ripped DVDs and Bluray from a hard drive.

Here is what's in the box and the software I have at this time. Some of the software is redundant but I listed it so anyone with experience could comment on different options.

mobo: MSI P6NSLI
proc: core 2 duo E4500
ram: corsair XMS2 2g
graphics: Saphire Radeon HD4550 512mb
DVD: LG???
iMON remote and software (with LCD)
iMedian
Power DVD 8
USB-UIRT (to control external satellite and also possibly receive IR commands if iMON sucks too much)
Beyond TV
Beyond Media

The system is connected to a Denon receiver, via HDMI, which will accept LPCM so my intent is to have the video card output this. No need for bitstreaming. However all formats must be decoded into the LPCM format obviously.

That's it pretty much. I have read almost all of the posts and fell that I can accomplish all of my needs with this software however I'm not sure it'll record from the Sat receiver. I've read the install guide but since it was made a while ago, can anyone comment on whats changed as far as required plug-ins and codecs? Basically I need to know the ones required for my set up. I appreciate any and all comments,

Craig

i gotta say i'm loving the whole mediaportal setup so far... maybe i'm being too much of a perfectionist, but it seems like half of my movies aren't loading backdrop fanart when i scroll through my collection. when i go into the plugin settings i notice that in the file details it seems like it's pulled all the info from IMDB, even the dvd art. but when i scroll down, i notice that the ones that are missing backdrop/fan art also don't have their IMDB ID number populated.

does anyone know of any way to fix this? manually or otherwise...

Any clue how to get fanart for the backdrop in TV Series? I see an option in the TV-Series plug settings, but for some reason it won't save.

Hello guys. I'm trying to get my harmony one working with media portal. I am not trying to hijack this thread. But since a lot of guys here are interested in media portal, maybe you can point me in the right direction.

Question 1. What do I need to do to get Logitech Harmony One working with Media Portal? How do I set it up?

Question 2. Will this work if my infrared is provided originally by my Sapphiretech TV tuner? (Cyberlink generic usb IrDA)

Thanks a lot.
