MediaPortal Install Guide - Page 12

Hi.
I loveMediaportal and StreamedMP.
Is there a way to sort my movies by genre? If not, is there a plugin that would achieve this, while still using StreamedMP ?

And I cant figure out how to map my hama mce remote properly. The stuff written in the Mediaportal forum didnt help me...
(Using MP 1.0 and StreamedMP-0.4.298 )

EDIT: By now I've found out that its not possible to sort your movies by Genre/rating or whatever, but the developers are trying to implement it into release 0.8 (after 0.7).

Thanks for the information.
But I guess I'll just wait for the next updates on MovingPictures.

Now I have a new problem:
Since yesterday, out of the blue, I cant access the Settings/Pictures/Music or Weather from my Home menu (neither from BasicHome or Home).
I didnt change anything in the settings (via the config menu) besides trying to figuere out how to map my remote properly (which still isnt working 100%).

I can access my movies and my TVSeries without any problems.

Grrr

Thanks for the thread.

DL'd and installed the variety of codecs, skin, and MP and the installation was very smooth.

Just updated the guide to reflect the latest versions of both MediaPortal and the StreamedMP skin (and relevant plug-ins).

damaster,
Thanks for writing your excellent guide.

You might want to add a section on using the Mediastream skin by pilehave instead of Streamed MP.

I have had some compatability issues with TV Series and Streamed MP as well as the My Emulators plugin not working at all with Streamed MP.

Both Streamed MP and Mediastream are ports of the Mediastream xbmc skin.

Thanks again for the great guide!

I've never tried the Mediastream skin but have seen it on the MP forums. Does it provide an installer and include automatic installation of the TvSeries, MovingPictures, and RSS plug-ins as does StreamedMP? That's why I like StreamedMP and feel it's appropriate for an install guide because it really helps ease the installation, especially for new users of MP.

It would be nice if there was a guide to setting uo the TV server and guide. I was using mediaportal and could never get the guide to work right. Ended up switching over to W7 and it set up the tv tuners and guide all automatically. I do like the look of mediaportal better. It has more options too. But if I cant get the guide to work then I can't record TV it's a deal breaker.

Also my Avermedia M780 cards do not work in Vista with meadiportal., Seems kind of odd as its a common card.

Hi all,

I m pretty new with and would like to know some basic things about the Moving Pictures plugin. I ve found out that I have to add a PATH in the MOVIE IMPORTER of the Moving Pictures settings. So I added my movies folder here where all my content is stored (each movie has a separate folder). At the DATA SOURCES I selected IMDB for movie details, THEMOVIEDB.ORG for backdrops and IMPAWARDS.COM for covers. After correcting one or two movies at the MATCHES tab (eg. madagascar 2 was not recognized but I could select the right one from the pull-down menu), all my movies where 'OK' (green and checked). After this I went to the tab MOVIE MANAGER. The movie info grabbed from IMDB was all ok but than I noticed some strange things where my questions comes up (finally ):

For example, for the movie X Files I Want To Believe there was no Cover Art found. Strange, because I ve always used a program called 'Movie Info Plus' and this program uses also IMPA and TMDB as source for finding covers and 'Movie Info Plus' finds lots of covers and fanarts (fanarts are the same as backdrops right?). So first question is why movie pictures cannot find a cover art for eg. this movie where movie info plus does find covers?

I was happy to see that I could select the cover art I personally wanted by selecting one (if there where found more covers) with the arrows when selecting a movie. compliments for that!

However, I have not found a way to choose my own backdrop (fanart). Movie info plus used to find more than one fanart most of the times and I always selected one I liked most. Is this not possible with movies pictures?

So that s it for now.

Guys, maybe I m missing the big picture here or don t understand it fully yet so please correct me where neccessery!

I saw that it is possible to manually add Movies Pictures Scripts so maybe it could have to do something with this?

Thanks again for all help and really appologise for my bad English.

Greetings from the Netherlands from Sander

edit:

and here comes my second questionsubject:

I m trying to configure MediaPortal so that it is fully compatible with Media Player Classic Home Cinema. So, I ve downloaded version 1.0 with the laterst snapshot version and in the config I checked the box ''use external player (replaces internal player)'', and in the ''Path/Filename'' I put the path where my MPC HC is installed: C:\\Program Files\\MPC HomeCinema\\mplayerc.exe.

After this I ran MediaPortal. Now comes my problem: when I select one of my HD movies (single files with .wmv and .mkv extensions) MPC HC start running fine just like it does without MediaPortal. But when selecting one of my regular dvd's (VIDEO_TS folder which contains a .TS file which I normally load into MPC HC) MPC HC will not run. The dvd folder is played by the mediaportal internal player.

What am I doing wrong here?

I don't think there's any difference in how MyDVD and MyVideo run. They are separate functions (in the config) and you have to set each up to use an external player (and codecs if you'd use the internal player). Personally, I create .iso images of DVDs, and use Daemon tools to mount and play them via MyVideos. It's odd you mention this as I have never used MyDVD to play anything...

One more thing: is .ts an extension included/added in your MP-config MyVideo (movies) list?

HI.
Recently found a very nice plug-in for MP TV-server called 4tr(for the record). For The Record is an advanced rule-based scheduling system to record your favourite TV programs in a very intelligent way.

Yep. It's pretty cool, but it doesn't yet work with Schedules Direct. Though at least they're working on a bridge program for that, so I'm hopeful.

Has anyone figured out a workaround in the Windows 7 beta that will allow mounting of Blu-ray rips and startup in PowerDVD from within MediaPortal utilizing Virtual Clone drive rather than Daemon Tools?

Anyone? I've come across a couple of threads here and there that show a method that apparantly works, but they all reference some dlls that don't seem to exist anymore. Daemon just doesn't play nice with some of my BDs-

I have an issue with the MediaPortal player showing the left edge of pixels from a movie with noise. The noise is black and white flickering which would normally be hidden with overscan. The issue is only related to MediaPortal as PowerDVD doesn't have the error. I did set MP to use the PDVD codec, but that didn't help. Is there anyway I can set the output to include some overscan to hide this? I'm using 1360x768 in pixel perfect mode.

Hi all,

I have configured mediaportal and am trying to upscale DVDs. Followed this guide for the upscaling part. TV is a full HD Panasonic connected thro HDMI. Configured ffdshow to resize for 1920 x 1080.

I am getting only a stretched version of the DVD with black bars at the top and bottom. Is that really upscaling? Shouldnt upscaling fill the entire screen? What am I doing wrong here?

More details needed:
- video card/GPU
- OS?
- Renderer: EVR or VMR9?

Depends on a few things actually - which model panasonic? Which movie? (Not all movies fill a 16:9 screen)

Tried Ocean's 12, Indiana Jones and Cars. Same result. BTW, the TV is a Panasonic TH42-PY800

-ATI HD3300 on a 790gx
-WinXP SP3
-VMR9 (though the PDVD version I'm using (6) doesn't give me an option for VMR9 or overlay so I'm not sure what I'm using when playing through that, but MP is set for VMR9). EVR won't play for me even though I have SP3 and .Net 3.0 installed.

Well, none of those films are shot at 16:9 so they can't/shouldn't fill your screen. Here's a good article that should help:

Ok. Here's a crappy screen shot taken with my mobile camera. This is with media portal aspect ratio set to "Normal" or "Original". It appears 16:9ish to me, and I was expecting to have an upscaled version of the movie.

Turns out I had set the aspect ratio to "Stretch" when posting earlier. Maybe that explains the black bars. But how to upscale this to 1920 x 1080?

You want to set it for normal NOT original (which it appears to be).

Did that too, same results with either Normal or Original.

I went line by line through the installation guide. I installed every program, every settings, etc exactly.

The only time I can get video on local DVD rips is when I first install it (have reinstalled it once already). MP4s, DIVX, etc. all play fine.

For DVD rips I get no audio or video. If I right click I get the menu and info box at the bottom but nothing else. If I select the HDMI Audio device instead of DirectSound I can get some audio but still no video.

If I put the video codecs back to the defaults it still won't work without reinstalling everything which is a pain. I've also reinstalled ffdshow too to no avail.

Clean WinXP install, ATI 3450 HDMI to a Sony DD/DTS Amp.

Any recommendations for how to fix this problem or at this point 8 hours wasted a different Frontend? I love the look of MediaPortal for the life of me I can't get this working and I've been monkeying with HTPCs for 5+ years so I'm not a nube, just out of the loop for the last year.

Thanks guys.

I stumbled across what may be your issue.
Are you using ffdshow? When I was playing around with the settings I saw how normal would display the same as original. Changing the codec fixed the issue. I'm out of time to play any more now.

Yup, using ffdshow and configured upscaling as per the guide. If there is an alternate (free) codec or method which can do the job, I am all ears.

Edit: Tried the ATI MPEG Decoder too, same results.

As you noted, MP is a front-end. It does come with MPVideo codec and MPAudio codec but if you have a favorite already installed you can keep using them. You CAN play a DVD via Windows Media Player, right? Were you using HDMI-audio there? You do have a mpeg-2 video codec registered, right? HOW are you trying to play a ripped DVD? Mounting the .iso via Daemon, or how? Try using MyVideos, select your codecs inside MP-config/Movies and see what happens.
