I'm a complete noob to audio equipment so bare with me. I bought a new AVR to compliment my new 61" Samsung 750 DLP. It's the Sony DG720, and I'm anticipating it to arrive tomorrow. My primary media device for movies will be the PS3. Before I upgrade speakers I wanted to ask this informative community if my current-but-ancient speakers are good enough for this AVR.
2x Bose 201 Series IV speakers
4x Bose Acustimass satellites (older models with the red stripe behind the grill)
The things I'm unsure about because I have no technology savvy, is whether or not 1) the satellites would function as surround speakers to begin with and, 2) if running them directly to the receiver would blow them, since I no longer have the original bass module that came with them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Set the crossover frequency fairly high for the satellites in the receiver setup options (or maybe it will do auto-setup with a microphone, idk?) to reduce the chance of blowing the satellites with too much bass.
There is a lot of good information to read on here to assist you along the way.
