My first projector (Panasonic AX200U)

Hello everyone, first time posting. I've been researching aggressively in the past few days for a new projector and I keep finding myself back at this forum. Thanks to the people here I now have a brand new AX200U sitting on my shelf! 1 word... HOOOOOOOOOOOT (in a good way).
I've only hit 2 road bumps. First, I have a spot on the projector that's a tad brighter than the rest of the screen. I only have 1 hr on the projector so this might go away.
Second, my room is a light matte beige/brown color. The color of the image doesn't seem to affected too much, but it does cause a lot of ambient light which I'd like to get rid of. This is my personal room, so I don't want to do anything dramatic. Any ideas?

PS: I got this projector for $800 from an authorized dealer on a well known auction site using the Live.com cashback.

what screen are you using...sounds like you are describing a hotspot.

1. As said above, your screen has a hotspot. If you are using the wall, you need a FLAT paint, not satin, semi-gloss, or gloss.

2. The darker your paint job, the better. if you don't want to paint the whole room darker, just hit the area up front where the screen is. It doesn't have to be black but IT MUST BE FLAT!

How big is the room? What are you using for a screen? Where is the ambient light coming from?

The paint is flat. But I was thinking of painting that wall a darker shade of the brown/beige. I have light coming from a window on the right side, but that's not much of a problem since I mostly use the projector at night. The main problem is the projector image itself CAUSES allot of ambient light (basically my room lights up a bit), this distracts a bit from the viewing experience.

his wall...still likely to be the reason for hotspotting...even with flat paint.

Its not my walls fault for the bright spot because I put a white piece of paper in front of it and its still there.

its actually the angle at which the light is being reflected back.

ever shine a flash light at a mirror and bounce the light back to your eyes? notice how bright the bulb of the flash light becomes? same concept.

Could be the PJ is set too bright.

Calibrate your brightness and contrast by using the THX Optimizer Tool found on most Pixar Movie dvds.

Will do. But I don't think thats the problem either, its pretty misshaped and noticeable. Might have to call Panasonic, but its no biggy.
